Promising individual. 15/8, third of 10 in minor event at Carlisle (6.9f, good to firm) on debut 30 days ago. Open to improvement and sure to take a hand in this weak affair.

Verdict

TOFFEE GALORE was a well-backed favourite on her debut at Carlisle and shaped with plenty of promise to finish a staying-on third over that extended 6f trip. This extra yardage looks sure to bring about improvement and she is fancied to see off impeccably-bred newcomer Sapa Inca, a full-sister to Group winners Johannes Vermeer and Elizabeth Browning. Albanita looks best of the remainder.

Verdict

Although by Galileo, SAPA INCA's dam won over 6f as a 2-y-o, so it's worth chancing that this well-bred, expensive filly has the requisite pace and know-how to make a winning start for a top yard in a race that might not take much winning. Toffee Galore, who shaped nicely on debut, is clearly the biggest danger and Albanita appeals as the type to benefit from the step up to this distance.

7/1, sixth of 7 in handicap at Nottingham (8.3f, good to firm) 18 days ago. Visor on 1st time. Needs the headgear to spark some life into her.

Verdict

CHORAL MUSIC has won four of her five starts so far this year and, despite a further 8lb rise for the latest of those victories at Leicester, she might be able to score again. Blanchefleur won in determined fashion at Sandown and warrants plenty of respect with Seamus Cronin taking a handy 7lb off her back, while first-time gelding Croque Monsieur may improve for the switch to handicap company. A tongue-tie is fitted on him.

Verdict

PLENTYINTHETANKSIR was a little disappointing here last time but he might not have been ready for the step up in trip just yet and he'd previously looked the type to stay ahead of the handicapper when running out a cosy winner over C&D, so he can regain the winning thread here. Blanchefleur and Choral Music were both value for extra when successful last time, so they enter the equation, too.

Verdict

POLYBIUS posted two solid efforts in valuable 5f handicaps at Ascot last month and, now 2lb lower than the latest of those, he looks sure to mount a bold bid back over his optimum trip. Mazzini is the only course winner in the line-up and he ran well in a conditions race at Thirsk when last sighted, while Reckless Endeavour could potentially improve for the application of first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

RECKLESS ENDEAVOUR is on an appealing mark and showed himself back in form last time, so he's a confident selection to get back to winning ways in a race where all of the others have questions to answer in one way or another. Mazzini is at least in some sort of form and has won here in the past and Polybius hasn't looked out of it in handicapping terms this year.

Verdict

CAROLINAE was unable to handle the step up to a Group 3 when behind Pretty Baby last Friday at Goodwood but the return to handicap company, at a course where she gained her biggest career success at Listed level, can see her back to her best. Rock On Baileys is respected in her bid for a hat-trick of victories, while Lucymai is better than what she showed behind the selection over C&D in June.

Verdict

LUCYMAI didn't have much go her way last time and had been firmly on the up prior to that, so this tough and likeable mare who goes well under these conditions is taken to come out on top in a tricky fillies' handicap. Rock On Baileys is an obvious threat if staying the trip and Carolinae would be the in the mix if back on her game following an excusable run up in grade last time.

Verdict

CLIFFS OF CAPRI bounced back when winning a lady amateur riders' handicap at Ascot on his latest start, when clearly benefiting from the addition of cheekpieces, and a repeat of that performance would make him the one to beat. Florencio has been a model of consistency of late and is likely to run his usual honest race, while Quick Breath completes the shortlist on his C&D success last time.

Verdict

MAYPOLE was clear of the others when runner-up at Thirsk last time and has the right sort of racing style to take to this track at the first attempt, so it's worth taking a chance that this improving 3-y-o can get the better of in-form pair Quick Breath and Florencio.

Verdict

RAPIER relished the step up to this trip when winning off 6lb lower at Doncaster last month and is open to further improvement over middle distances. True North battled on well to prevail by a head over C&D last time and is feared most as he's a fellow three-year-old in receipt of the weight-for-age allowance. Majboor kept on well to score over 1m at Newbury last time and could also play a supporting role now stepping back up in distance.

Verdict

RAPIER and True North both improved for the step up to this trip when winning at Doncaster and over this C&D respectively. The latter represents a yard in tremendous form and looks sure to win more races but preference on this occasion is for Rapier, who did the job well on Town Moor and a 6 lb rise shouldn't be enough to prevent him from following up. Fellow 3-y-o Recordman is best of the rest.

Verdict

SPRING PRAISE bolted up by three lengths over track and trip when last sighted and remains open to improvement beyond a mile as he bids to defy a 6lb rise. The consistent Midnight Mood has been knocking on the door of late and could be tough to keep out of the frame. Others to consider are Sharp Operator, a C&D winner who was second at Brighton on Thursday, and Lady Of York, who debuts for Paul Howling.

Verdict

SPRING PRAISE showed improved form to make a winning start for this yard over C&D last week and looks capable of defying a 6 lb higher mark. Sharp Operator and Lady of York are feared most.
