Lightly-raced maiden. 13/2, creditable fifth of 12 in nursery at Lingfield (6f, good to soft) 35 days ago. Makes polytrack debut.

Verdict

DAPHINIA struggled at Royal Ascot when last seen but she had previously chased home Signora Cabello in a Listed race at York and based on that evidence, Henry Spiller's filly should take plenty of beating. Irene May made a winning debut at Brighton earlier in the month and is an obvious threat to the selection. The rest need to improve to beat the aforementioned pair but Dawn Affair is the pick of them.

Verdict

DAPHINIA stands out on form and this looks a really good opening for her to get back on track. Irene May overcame greenness to make a winning start at Brighton recently and is feared along with Dawn Affair, who wasn’t disgraced in a much deeper race than this at Yarmouth last month.

14/1, eleventh of 13 in handicap at Newmarket (6f, good to soft) 29 days ago, slowly away. Hood back on. Yet to match his 2-y-o form this year.

Verdict

SHAHEEN has improved throughout this season and his most recent efforts suggest that he can win another race off his current mark. Blackheath filled second place in a competitive class 2 event over course and distance late last month and that form gives him a big shout. Others to consider in a wide-open race are Bullingdon, Count Otto and Procedure.

Verdict

BREATHLESS TIMES is potentially well treated now back on the all-weather following wind surgery and a gelding operation so he receives the vote. Blackheath probably hasn't peaked yet and he heads up the opposition along with Count Otto and Shaheen.

Verdict

DADDYS POPPIT made a winning handicap debut over 6f here last week and a 6lb rise in the ratings for that success may underestimate her ability. Private View displayed ability in all her starts in maiden/novice company and may improve for a wind operation. Pop Telecom is another who should be suited by the switch to handicaps, while the in-form Chloellie should also be considered.

Verdict

DADDYS POPPIT showed much improved form on first start for Archie Watson when opening her account on handicap debut at Chelmsford last week, and she could take a bit of stopping in her follow-up bid with this longer trip likely to be within range. Private View probably remains capable of better now handicapping after a break/wind operation, with the likeable Chloellie another to consider.

Verdict

FENNAAN won on his return to the all-weather at Kempton, getting on top in the closing stages. A 3lb rise looks more than fair for John Gosden's gelding, and he has the potential for further improvement on artificial surfaces. George has been in excellent form of late, with two wins from his last three outings, and another bold bid is expected, while Victory Wave can be forgiven a poor effort at York.

Verdict

FENNAAN resumed winning ways back on the all-weather with a useful performance at Kempton last month, and he seems sure to give another good account after a small rise in the weights. Squats is feared on his Newbury success 2 starts ago, whilst Victory Wave can't have been right at York last time and had looked progressive prior to that.

Verdict

Saint Diana is equipped with first-time cheekpieces following four runner-up efforts on the bounce and she looks sure to be in the shake-up again, but there could be value in taking her on. LADY MOMOKA built on last year's promising introduction when returning with a respectable sixth-placed finish behind subsequent Sandringham winner Agrotera at Windsor in May, and she can make it third-time lucky. Kempton runner-up Duchess Of Avon also warrants respect.

Verdict

SAINT DIANA sets a good standard and is surely capable of winning a race of this nature. Lady Momoka remains capable of better and looks the chief threat.

5/1 and blinkered for 1st time, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at this C&D 18 days ago, keeping on well. May do better still, and should give a good account in follow-up bid.

Verdict

Right at the foot of the weights lurks GLOBAL ART, a decisive C&D winner last time who looks capable of defying a 7lb rise. Manthoor was only beaten two lengths in a class 3 handicap over 7f at Sandown when last sighted and he has a definite chance dropped in grade and stepping up in trip. Dual C&D scorer Glory Awaits and the first-time-blinkered Makaarim are others to keep an eye on.

Verdict

MAKAARIM's recent outing is likely to have blown the cobwebs away, so it would come as no surprise if he's back at the top of his game fitted with first-time blinkers. Global Art may do better still now he's back on the up, while Statuario has been given a chance by the handicapper.

Course winner. Creditable third of 13 in handicap (7/4) at this course (10f) 16 days ago, having run of race. Significantly up in trip. Tongue strap on 1st time.

Verdict

Swordbill wears cheekpieces for the first time and must enter calculations lining up off the same mark as when runner-up at Catterick, but OAKLEY MIMOSA shades the verdict in receipt of 2lb. She clearly likes the place, having won and finished third on her last couple of starts over 1m2f here, and it's interesting that a first-time tongue-tie is equipped now upped in distance. Refrain, Konigin and True North add further spice to the contest.

Verdict

SWORDBILL benefited from a further step up in trip and ran his best race yet when runner-up at Catterick last month, and is sure to be winning before long. Konigin and Refrain are lightly-raced types with top yards so may yet do better also.
