Last of 6 in C&D handicap (good to firm, 9/2) 20 days ago. Hopes pinned on first-time cheekpieces sparking a revival.

Verdict

THE NEW PHARAOH was only beaten by a nose in a similar event over C&D at the beginning of the month and he should take some beating if in the same mood. Prendergast Hill has been running consistently well in recent months and he should be thereabouts once again, while Parish Boy and Busy Street are others to note in tricky opening contest.

Verdict

It's fair to say that THE NEW PHARAOH isn't entirely straightforward, but he finished clear of the rest when failing by a whisker over C&D last time. A 3 lb rise for that is fair and, with similar conditions forecast, he is taken to resume winning ways. Warrior Prince still has low mileage and, bred to relish this stiffer test, he rates the main danger ahead of Prendergast Hill and Parish Boy.

Promising type. 15/2, fifth of 12 in minor event at Haydock (6f, firm) on debut 21 days ago. Likely improver.

Verdict

ALFA MCGUIRE clearly improved a lot for his debut run when an easy winner at Beverley earlier in the month and a 3b penalty is unlikely to stop him from going in again. The likes of Arch Gold, Dark Acclaim and Wafeer all showed ability on their debuts and improvement can be expected from them. Qaroun cost 220,000gns as a yearling and he is closely related to plenty of juvenile winners.

Verdict

The one that stands out is WAFEER, who showed significant promise on debut running on late, and with this extra furlong a likely plus he looks the one to be on. Qaroun is an interesting type on paper for a top yard and has to be respected most ahead of Alfa Mcguire, who may prove vulnerable to one or two of these under a penalty despite staying on strongly last time at Beverley.

Verdict

Wannabe Friends has to be respected but he is frustrating and may be vulnerable to a less exposed type. It was not the strongest of Newmarket maidens that RAAWY finished second in on his debut, but it was an encouraging run and this race is not much better. Gorham's Cave cost 42,000gns as a yearling and there is plenty of encouragement to be taken from his pedigree.

Verdict

WANNABE FRIENDS gradually seems to be getting the hang of things, and posted a sound effort in a decent handicap at Salisbury when only tiring late on. He is taken to make amends with a drop back in trip likely to be in his favour. However, Raawy is a big danger with further improvement on the cards, and Gorham's Cave is also worthy of consideration for top connections in a winnable maiden.

Verdict

SUMMERGHAND is lightly raced and wasn't completely disgraced when fifth in a competitive Haydock handicap earlier in the month. This half-brother to solid sprint handicapper Eastern Impact will only get better over time. Decision Maker has improved with each start in his career and the drop in trip looked to really benefit the son of Iffraaj here last time, while the consistent Marseille is respected.

Verdict

MARSEILLE lost no caste in defeat when chasing home Justanotherbottle over a slightly shorter trip here last time and, with further progress distinctly possible, she earns the vote. The similarly progressive Kaeso has to be feared in his bid to complete the four-timer, while Summerghand remains with potential and is also high on the shortlist.

Three wins from 5 runs this year. Good second of 6 in handicap at Haydock (8f, firm, 2/1) 21 days ago, no match for winner. Not without hope, but prospect of slower ground here raises a question.

Verdict

MISS SHERIDAN arrives in very solid form having only finished out the frame once in five outings and the step back down in distance won't inconvenience Mick Easterby's filly. Bint Arcano has to be respected on her recent performances which include a win at Catterick two starts ago, while Savannah Slew looks the best of the remainder having been far from disgraced when fifth in a Listed contest at Carlisle last month.

Verdict

LITTLE LADY KATIE has failed to fire on all cylinders so far this season but there were more encouraging signs at Ayr last time and, back down to her last winning mark and with more rain forecast, she could be the answer to a trappy-looking contest. With Bahamadam due to run at Lingfield on Wednesday, Peak Princess and Bint Arcano can fill the places.

Verdict

BURTONWOOD has been knocking on the door recently having placed in each of his last three outings, including at Leicester the last twice, and the return to 6f will prove no negative with Callum Rodriguez taking a valuable 5lb off his back. Sarabi ran her best race for a while when second at Beverley earlier this month and has to be respected along with Willsy and Athollblair Boy.

Verdict

Having hit the target off a 2 lb higher mark here last week, MUATADEL should prove a tough nut to crack with the step back up to this trip unlikely to pose a problem. Athollblair Boy has to be feared on the back of his near miss at Windsor, but he could do with the ground drying out and Muatadel may have most to fear from Sarabi.

Verdict

Ralph Beckett has an excellent record with fillies and CIRCULATION looks one who has the capability to improve now making her handicap debut after three promising efforts so far. Entangling disappointed on his last outing when only beating a couple home in a Lingfield maiden but is one to watch returning from a 107-day break, while Lenoire makes her debut for Mick Appleby having contested some decent maidens last term which included finishing sixth to dual Oaks winner Enable at Newcastle last November.

Verdict

ENTANGLING was well held at Lingfield last time, but he showed plenty of ability on his first 2 starts in maidens and is of strong interest now upped in trip on this handicap/turf debut. The booking of Silvestre De Sousa suggests that connections mean business and it'll look significant if the market speaks in his favour. Circulation is a live danger and Lightly Squeeze also enters calculations.
