Failed to hit the target in 20 NH starts for Liam Casey in Ireland, though did shape as if back in form last time. Makes stable debut.

Verdict

NIKKI STEEL arrives here having filled second place on his last two starts over hurdles, but the winning pointer can take this race on his debut over the larger obstacles. Dark Invader was only denied by a short head at Worcester just over a week ago and he is 4lb well-in, while Little Chunk is the pick of the remainder.

Verdict

NIKKI STEEL is the type his yard does particularly well with over the summer and he could be worth siding with to make a winning chasing bow. Dark Invader has obvious claims off the same mark, while Comanche Chieftain probably has a bigger effort in him over fences.

Multiple point winner, including last time (Apr 21). Potentially on a good mark starting out for new yard on belated return to Rules and interesting contender.

Verdict

JEU DE MOTS made a winning handicap debut over fences here last month and the lightly-raced five-year-old can be successful again, despite a 6lb rise in the ratings. Kelsey and Lotus Pond have to be respected given their recent winning form between the flags, while Chateau Robin and Sutter's Mill are others who merit places on the shortlist.

Verdict

LOTUS POND is the interesting one, as he's potentially on a good mark starting out for this yard and is a multiple point winner, including in April. Jeu de Mots was much improved when making a winning handicap bow here last time and is the obvious threat.

Best effort so far this year when third at Warwick 22 days ago but strike rate over fences is poor (2-40) and he's 4 lb 'wrong' at the weights here.

Verdict

AS YOU LIKE took a big step forward to win at Market Rasen earlier in the month and he makes plenty of appeal off a 5lb higher mark. Gone Platinum was a bit disappointing here last time out but he cannot be discounted having won over C&D the time before that. Others to note are Butlergrove King and Weyburn.

Verdict

AS YOU LIKE got his act together when off the mark over fences last time and, still well-handicapped based on the pick of his hurdles exploits, the 7-y-o is taken to follow up here. Gone Platinum should appreciate dropping back to this trip and is feared most ahead of Butlergrove King. The others all have something to prove for one reason or another.

Verdict

Market Rasen winner THE BOTTOM BAR failed to follow up when raised in trip last time, but Nicky Henderson's six-year-old should be able to get back to winning ways now back to 2m4f. Super Scorpion is twice a winner over fences at this venue, and his most recent effort was encouraging. He is interesting switching to timber and could be the main opposition, with point winner Persistantprincess the pick of David Rees' two runners.

Verdict

SUPER SCORPION has a good record at this venue (successful twice over the larger obstacles), and he looks to have excellent claims back hurdling having shaped well on his return here 3 weeks ago. The Bottom Bar is likely to pose a big threat, while fairly useful Flat recruit Montanna has stamina to prove at this trip, but shouldn’t be dismissed lightly.

Left previous hurdles form well behind when making a winning handicap debut here (2½m) 3 weeks ago. Hit with a 10 lb rise for that but claims if this stiffer test proves to be in his favour.

Left previous hurdles form well behind when making a winning handicap debut here (2½m) 3 weeks ago. Hit with a 10 lb rise for that but claims if this stiffer test proves to be in his favour.

Verdict

Ian Williams' BODEGA was an impressive winner at Market Rasen and with 10lb claimer Edward Austin taking over in the saddle, the veteran can follow up, with the jockey's allowance nullifying the 7lb rise he received for that triumph. Marble Moon was a handy scorer here last month, but this is tougher both up in trip and from 10lb higher. Lady Markby and Iniciar both showed enough on their most recent outings to be considered.

Verdict

The vote goes to INICIAR, who seemingly took a step back in the right direction here last time, is on a potentially fair mark and it could be that this stiffer test will be just what the doctor ordered. Lady Markby posted a solid effort back from a lay-off at Uttoxeter and should give another good account, while last-time-out winners Marble Moon and Bodega also command respect.

Modest maiden on the Flat and yet to pull up any trees in this sphere.

Verdict

ST JOHN'S, a narrow second at Ludlow last time, took a big step forward on his handicap bow and a 3lb rise might not be enough to stop the five-year-old from shedding the maiden tag over hurdles. Marvellous Monty has placed in eight of her 16 career starts and, with blinkers now applied, should pick up more prize money. Change Ur Tune could prove best of the remainder.

Verdict

ST JOHN'S improved for a switch to handicaps over a longer trip when second at Ludlow last time and is taken to build on that. Dan Skelton's Sea of Mystery could prove a different proposition now handicapping in headgear, particularly if the market speaks for him, while Marvellous Monty is also likely to figure under Brian Hughes.

Not seen since a poor effort last summer and is hard to recommend despite returning on a mark 15 lb below his last winning one.

Verdict

Rose Of Cimarron lacked a change of gear at Worcester and first-time cheekpieces will need to revitalise Warren Greatrex's mare, who is dropped in trip. Baron Von Chill won well on his stable bow/first run since a wind operation and could have more to offer for the in-form Dan Skelton operation. Borak has gone up 5lb in a better class, and it might be worth chancing SILK RUN, who was third to a smart type last time and remains on a fair mark.

Verdict

RED HOT CHILLY is still looking for his first success but has only had a couple of hurdle starts for this yard and shaped well in a steadily-run affair at Uttoxeter last time. He can open his account here. Baron Von Chill is feared most after his improved effort on yard debut last time, whilst Borak is also of interest.
