Ultimately well held starting out in 5.1f minor event at Windsor but there were positives to glean from that effort and he's likely to do better in time.

Verdict

MUTAWAFFER's debut performance at Ascot a couple of weeks ago suggested that he may prove to be an above-average juvenile. If he can improve for that experience, the son of Kodiac should be hard to beat. Li Kui and Greenback Boogie are others with form who have to be respected, while Memento and Golden Force are newcomers who may take a hand in the finish.

Verdict

MUTAWAFFER and Li Kui both make plenty of appeal following highly encouraging debut efforts at Ascot and Windsor respectively. Preference is for the former, who contested what looked a pretty useful event and sets a decent standard on that evidence. Dancing Speed wasn't far behind Li Kui at Windsor and should make his presence felt, while stablemate Pirate is one of several intriguing newcomers.

Last summer's C&D victory came on deep ground but he's versatile ground-wise and is a must for the shortlist, having returned to form when going close at Doncaster (7f, good) recently.

Verdict

Love Dreams bounced back to somewhere near his best when runner-up to Afaak at York last week and he can prove to be more than competitive despite disappointing here two starts ago. Gossiping was second to Baraweez at Chester and this dual C&D winner can go close on that evidence but STAR QUALITY makes plenty of appeal as she returns to handicap company after a decent run at Ascot in a Listed race last time.

Verdict

The vote goes to TRUTH OR DARE, who is just 1 lb higher compared to when striking over C&D in August and signalled that his turn may again be near when just failing at Doncaster 19 days ago. Last year's winner Gossiping also returned to form when finding just one too good at Chester recently and is a big threat. Love Dreams and Swift Approval are others to consider.

Gained breakthrough on turf at Newbury last summer and followed up at Wolverhampton (12.2f) when returning to action in February. Creditable second over same C&D next time and she's not ruled out.

Verdict

LADY BERGAMOT commands respect as the sole C&D winner in the line-up and is entitled to improve on her reappearance effort at Salisbury now she has the benefit of a run behind her. Reckless Wave has been consistent at a lower level lately and could play a supporting role, while any money for Kohinur on her handicap debut would also be worth heeding. Canberra Cliffs, having her second start for Gary Moore, looks best of the rest.

Verdict

Preference in this competitive handicap is for LADY BERGAMOT, who progressed throughout 2017 and may well have more to offer this season. Conditions were perhaps against her on return at Salisbury but she nevertheless acquitted herself well and better ground lies in wait here. Jelly Monger has slipped to a dangerous mark, while Lorelina, Canberra Cliffs and Reckless Wave are all in with a shout.

Clear signs of ability in trio of starts at 2 yrs but needs to raise his game on this handicap debut following a 7-month break.

Verdict

Plenty of these have the scope to prove better than their current handicap marks and RICH IDENTITY ticks most of the boxes. His Sandown third took a notable boost when the runner-up from that contest landed the London Gold Cup on Saturday and first-time blinkers can help sharpen him up. Martineo, Soldiers Bay and Sing Out Loud all look capable of significant improvement on what they have achieved so far.

Verdict

SING OUT LOUD's recent reappearance at Ascot was eye-catching and, with the promise of better to come with that run under his belt and now faced with a stiffer test, he could be the answer. Martineo represents the red-hot William Haggas yard and is a big threat given his potential. Bobby Biscuit is another unexposed type to consider and Cuban Heel is by no means a forlorn hope.

Has shown ability in trio of minor events but looks out of her depth in this company.

Verdict

Shaherezada has the potential to run well above her rating on what is only her second start for Roger Varian but narrow preference is for John Gosden inmate DERRYMORE, who struck on debut at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and shaped like a stiffer test of stamina would suit. Mrs Sippy improved between runs last term and is another potential improver in the line-up now stepping up beyond a mile for the first time.

Verdict

There was much to like about the way DERRYMORE did the job on debut at Wolverhampton and, with the promise of better to come, she is expected to take this step up in class in her stride. Mrs Sippy is also a pattern-class performer in the making judged on her 2-y-o exploits and is feared most ahead of Magnolia Springs, who may yet build on the abundant promise of her Newbury debut victory.

Low-key debut at Sandown last month and she's likely to need more time.

Verdict

BAYSHORE FREEWAY showed her inexperience when starting slowly on debut at Beverley earlier in the month, but she still only found an 87-rated rival too good on that occasion. If the daughter of Declaration Of War improves for that experience, she will prove difficult to beat. The main threat could come from the newcomers and Anasheed, Heart Of Grace and Romantic Talk are all bred to have plenty of ability.

Verdict

The market should be revealing with regard to the newcomers but BAYSHORE FREEWAY is taken to put her experience to good use and emerge on top. She finished with a flourish when chasing home an experienced rival on debut at Beverley, in turn finishing well clear of the rest, and should relish this stiffer test. Anasheed, Romantic Talk and Heart of Grace all merit close attention in the betting.
