Verdict

Story Minister, Unfortunately Armed Response all made promising introductions but they hardly set a strong standard on form and it could be worth siding with one of the smartly-bred newcomers. Jive Lady represents a powerful stable that does well here and must be respected but slight preference is for CROWN OF CORTEZ, who boasts a striking pedigree and hails from a Richard Fahey operation that has plenty of strength amongst its juvenile ranks.

Verdict

STORY MINISTER shaped well behind a pair of previous winners when third pitched into minor company on debut at Doncaster a fortnight ago and can make that experience count. He may have most to fear from a pair of well-bred newcomers in Jive Lady and Crown of Cortez.

Won at Epsom (visored) in September and much better for Redcar reappearance when close second over C&D (visor refitted). Should go well again.

Won at Epsom (visored) in September and much better for Redcar reappearance when close second over C&D (visor refitted). Should go well again.

Verdict

BE KOOL caught the eye when flashing home for second here a couple of weeks ago and Brian Ellison's charge certainly looks ready to strike now. A low draw should ensure he is able to claim a better earlier pitch this time around and he is preferred to Archie's Advice, who made a promising return to action at Ayr recently. Brilliant Vanguard and Dark Devil, making his comeback this evening, are others to consider.

Verdict

NICHOLAS T looks back in good form all of a sudden, a bit unlucky not to follow up his Doncaster success at Ayr 11 days ago, and has obvious claims off the same mark. Be Kool and Dark Devil are others to consider.

Won twice from the front here under Shirley Teasdale at the end of last summer. Easy to ignore his reappearance (rider lost irons) and probably did too much too soon over C&D latest.

Verdict

TESTA ROSSA bounced back to his best form when winning in fine style at Ayr last time and it comes as no surprise to see connections turn him out quickly under a 6lb penalty. He could prove a tough nut to crack once again. Crazy Tornado ran a cracker for second at Musselburgh recently and seems sure to give another solid account of himself, while it is interesting to see connections persist with Cape Love and he could be capable of much better.

Verdict

FIVEHUNDREDMILES, re-united with his former yard, produced his best effort to date when fourth over C&D 12 days ago, that on his first start for 4 months. Fitted with blinkers now, he could well be the answer to this tricky handicap. Crazy Tornado is ready to strike judged on recent efforts and along with recent Ayr scorer Testa Rossa heads up the dangers.

Improved on first start for new yard when making successful return in Redcar maiden in this headgear. Better effort when second over 13f here last time, just failing to get up, and better to come.

Verdict

Yorkidding is the obvious starting point following her fine runner-up finish in the Chester Cup last week. Providing she has recovered sufficiently from those exertions then she ought to go well again, despite this notable drop back in trip. Corton Lad just got the better of Kensington Star here recently and both can be expected to go well again along with Doncaster second Sam Missile. However, AMAZING RED looked a smart prospect when breaking his maiden at Pontefract last year and there was plenty of encouragement to be taken from his reappearance third at Wolverhampton.

Verdict

SAM MISSILE was gelded over the winter and shaped well behind an unexposed sort over shorter at Doncaster recently. The return to 1½m will suit and he's one to be interested in moving forward. This is a competitive-looking contest however, with Kensington Star and Amazing Red just a couple of others to note.

Verdict

SAINT EQUIANO was expected to run a lot better than he did on debut at Carlisle last June, according to the market, but after an 86-day break he left what was a moderate first run well behind at Ayr. A close second on that occasion, he took another step forward and opened his account at the third time of asking at the Scottish track, shaping as though he'd make into a nice three-year-old. He could be well treated on his seasonal/handicap bow and gets the verdict ahead of Sharp Defence and Black Isle Boy.

Verdict

SAINT EQUIANO looked a useful prospect when winning a maiden at Ayr last backend and can make a successful return at the main expense of Sharp Defence and Springforth.

Very lightly raced in recent times and hard to know how much ability he retains judged on AW exploits of late.

Very lightly raced in recent times and hard to know how much ability he retains judged on AW exploits of late.

Verdict

There is a lot to like about PORTLAND STREET as the son of Dream Ahead gets another chance off a mark of 66 here despite finishing a close second off the same mark over C&D earlier in the month. If he's improved again from that run then this could be the time to catch him. Lawless Louis has been knocking on the door and would be no surprise winner, while chances are also given to El Hombre and General Alexander.

Verdict

Both PORTLAND STREET and El Hombre are turned out quickly from unchanged marks following excellent runner-up efforts and look the pair to focus on, with marginal preference for the Bryan Smart-trained 4-y-o. General Alexander will be more at home back at 6f and is perhaps the pick of the rest.
