2 wins from 3 runs this year. Latest win at Wolverhampton in May. 3/1, good third of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 25 days ago, having run of race. Thriving, and bound to remain competitive.

Verdict

JACOB BLACK has rediscovered his form with a vengeance this year and has won two of his last three outings, both coming at Musselburgh. The 3lb rise for his most recent triumph is negated by Rowan Scott's claim and he can continue his rich vein of form. Ladies First returned with a defeat of Jacob Black at Carlisle and can go well again off a 6lb higher mark, while Servo completes the shortlist.

Verdict

LADIES FIRST may have had the run of things when getting the better of Jacob Black here last time, but she's the much less exposed of the pair and is only 3 lb worse off at the weights following that rival's subsequent success, so she's taken to make it 2 from 2 for the year under a similar ride. Servo is the clear pick of the others.

Once-raced maiden. 4/1, seventh of 8 in minor event at Carlisle (5.9f, good to firm) on debut 23 days ago. Should have more to offer based on pedigree.

Verdict

SHOWOUT went down by a neck on his racecourse debut at Chepstow, finishing second to Shaybani at the start of the month, and he is the one to beat on the evidence of that effort. Diva D is open to improvement from her first outing having finished down the field at Carlisle, and Devil's Angel can take a step forward from his introduction at Ripon.

Verdict

SHOWOUT looked like another highly promising 2-y-o from the impressive Archie Watson yard when only denied by Shaybani at Chepstow on debut and, with nothing of that one's quality in this field, he should have little trouble getting off the mark. Devil's Angel's debut form is working out extremely well and he may take a marked step forward. Newcomer Serengeti Song isn't ruled out, either.

Verdict

MUJASSAM arrives here having won his last three starts, two of which came over this C&D, and a 6lb penalty for his latest success may not be enough to stop him from racking up the four-timer. Lomu's last couple of starts suggest that he should be in the mix for the places, along with King Robert and Mont Kiara.

Verdict

KING ROBERT has been in reasonable form of late and can surely capitalise on his reduced mark at some point, this looking a good opportunity in the likelihood that he secures a beneficial tactical position in this small field. Mujassam has never been in better form and bids for the 4-timer, but a penalty might just catch him out this time.

Verdict

Poyle Vinnie is rated 5lb lower than when winning the 2015 renewal of this contest and has been running well in defeat of late, though narrow preference is for his stablemate, OWER FLY, who sauntered to a three-length victory over this trip at Pontefract last time and is 1lb ahead of the handicapper while turned out under a penalty. Mobsta is worth a market check now back from an 83-day break, while recent C&D winner The Great Wall is expected to hold his own now stepped up in grade.

Verdict

2015-winner POYLE VINNIE has been unfortunate not to get his head in front more often since, particularly recently for his new yard, clearly in top form to find only one too good in competitive affairs on his last 3 outings. He can gain a deserved success here. George Bowen has remained in good heart since his emphatic York success, so he's on the radar along with The Great Wall.

Verdict

RAYMOND TUSK found Group 1 company beyond him when sixth in the Eclipse but there was no shame in being beaten nine lengths by Roaring Lion that day. If running to his official rating of 106 now eased in grade, Richard Hannon's representative could take plenty of beating. Austrian School has been consistent in competitive handicaps and has place claims, while Shailene has been in good order in novice contests lately and makes some appeal on her Listed fourth at Chester in May.

Verdict

RAYMOND TUSK is clearly held in regard, and was far from disgraced when sixth pitched into the Eclipse on just his third start at Sandown 2 weeks ago. A tall, attractive colt, he is fancied to capitalise on the drop back down in class. Austrian School and Ventura Knight are upwardly-mobile handicappers who rate next best, in that order.

Verdict

ATTICUS BOY could be hard to beat having been successful the last twice on the all-weather, and the 6lb penalty for his latest success at Wolverhampton shouldn't be too much of a burden. The consistent Thorntoun Care is expected to run well at a course he likes, while track regular Royal Cosmic was a beaten favourite over further last time and has to be respected back down in trip just 6lb higher than when scoring here in June.

Verdict

This looks a good opportunity for ATTICUS BOY, who progressed again when doubling his career tally at Wolverhampton 11 days ago (came a long way clear with the runner-up). Wisely turned out under a penalty he can complete the hat-trick. Royal Cosmic is preferred to Thorntoun Care for the forecast.

Fifth of 7 in handicap (10/1) at this course (8.3f, good to firm) 18 days ago. Needs to show the benefit of that run here to feature.

Verdict

QUOTELINE DIRECT has impressed the last twice at Pontefract and Micky Hammond's five-year-old should be capable of completing the hat-trick. Chikoko Trail has also won recently and could have more to come up in trip under a 6lb penalty, while Leicester second Take A Turn and Sandown third Scrutiny are others to keep an eye on.

Verdict

SPRAY THE SEA was essentially disappointing at York on his latest start, yet his reappearance/yard debut at Wolverhampton contained a fair degree of promise and he is worth another chance for his powerful stable. Fellow 3-y-o Chikoko Trail and the hat-trick seeking Quoteline Direct rate next best.
