Verdict

French import UNE ARTISTE warrants close inspection in the betting as she is having her first start for Nicky Henderson and holds an entry in the Triumph Hurdle for the Festival next month. Winner of two bumpers and a moderate hurdle in her homeland, market support would boost the confidence behind her chances. Dark And Dangerous looks the main danger after posting a career-best effort at Plumpton in December, while Lexi's Boy cannot be ruled out either after scoring in style at Ayr last month.

Verdict

Venetia Williams has won this twice in the last 3 years and her Moujik Borget is already good enough to land an average renewal. However, fellow British debutante/Triumph Hurdle entry Une Artiste looked very exciting in victory last time and will be a danger to all starting out for Nicky Henderson. Lexi's Boy can round off the placings.

Marked progress in each of 3 hurdles starts, value for extra to get off the mark in the mud at Ffos Las. Probably has more to come at this trip but may find this company too hot.

Verdict

BRINDISI BREEZE has been a key factor in Lucinda Russell's hot run of form in recent months and turned in a most impressive performance when making all of the running to score at Newcastle last time. Dominating this stronger field will not be quite as easy but he looks a useful prospect and should give it his best shot. Thehillofuisneach has been rapidly improving in handicaps of late and also merits consideration along with Harry Topper and Real Milan, who were impressive winners over shorter when last sighted and are unexposed around 3m.

Verdict

A number of these have plenty of long-term potential, especially Real Milan, who's fancied to give his trainer another big-race win around here. Thehillofuisneach has the form and experience to get in the mix, while Brindisi Breeze will appreciate conditions.

Useful hurdler who easily landed 10-runner handicap over C&D (heavy) in January. Will handle conditions but improvement needed to follow up in this grade.

Verdict

FEATHERBED LANE has improved plenty since joining Philip Hobbs and looked all over the eventual winner at Kempton last time until he started to idle in front while his rider struggled with the reins. The selection steps outside of handicap company now, but slammed the reopposing Reindeer Dippin by a wide margin at Aintree in December and is taken to get the better of last year's winner Cross Kennon to land the spoils today. The latter disappointed over fences earlier this term but remains a player over timber. Restless Harry is rarely far away and is another in with place claims.

Verdict

Featherbed Lane is progressing really well for Philip Hobbs and, given he looks sure to be suited by the step up in trip, is firmly the one to side with. Restless Harry is a genuine sort and shapes as the one most likely to chase him home.

Good record in staying contests for previous yard (won this in 2008), but has shown form only once since joining Venetia Williams and offered little encouragement in 3 starts this season.

Verdict

Le Beau Bai and Giles Cross locked horns for the length of the Chepstow straight in the Welsh National, with the Richard Lee-trained former forcing Giles Cross to fill the runner-up spot for the second successive renewal. The form may be reversed now that Giles Cross meets his conqueror on 7lb better terms, but both may have to settle for minor honours because FREDO improved markedly for a test of stamina in the 3m5f Classic Chase at Warwick - with Major Malarkey behind him - and he doesn't have too many miles on the clock over fences. Some Target, a rare runner here for Irish champion trainer Willie Mullins, has also been crying out for a rise to this sort of distance, and much better is anticipated from him.

Verdict

The Welsh National 1-2 are bound to be popular, with the hat-trick seeking Le Beau Bai a slightly stouter stayer than Giles Cross, but at a bigger price it could be worth taking a chance on Major Malarkey who went with a lot more promise at Warwick last month.

Dual chase winner for this stable last term and back-to-form second in cross-country event in December. Folded tamely back over hurdles last month. Others preferred.

Verdict

A few of these return to hurdles with a little bit to prove, most notably Wayward Prince and Mr Moonshine, but neither are handicapped out of things if finding some form. Palace Jester dead-heated in similar conditions at Chepstow last time and remains open to further progress but it is another recent winner, HOUBLON DES OBEAUX, who is preferred. A gutsy winner at Cheltenham last time, he is only up 6lb for that success and could still have more up his sleeve for the shrewd Venetia Williams. Lightly-raced novice Tour Des Champs is another of note on just his second handicap start.

Verdict

A typically well-contested event in a series that again ends at Cheltenham. The vote goes to Tour Des Champs after a highly encouraging handicap debut at Huntingdon, but last-time-out winners Grand Vision and Houblon Des Obeaux are obvious dangers, while Tornado Bob doesn't look a lost cause returned to hurdles.

Point winner who was 2 from 3 over hurdles last season. Far from fluent when fourth on chase debut at Wetherby (25f), but better effort at Newcastle latest. Drop in trip may suit and respected.

Verdict

Scoter Fontaine should have gleaned plenty of confidence from his recent Hereford success but he faces mush stiffer opposition this afternoon and the verdict goes the way of LACKAMON. Sue Smith's 7-y-o failed to give his running in the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby on Boxing Day but he has been given a good break since and his previous Newcastle romp remains fresh in the memory. Monsieur Cadou is expected give another good account of himself, with Cannington Brook also considered although this trip is short of his best.

Verdict

Upthemsteps hasn't been the most fluent jumper of fences to date, but he was better last time and this drop in trip may suit. Scoter Fontaine and Mister Hyde look next best.

Verdict

Turko was a class act in his day and is sure to prove popular following his good fourth at Newbury last time. However, HILLS OF ARAN is just preferred having returned from a lengthy absence when finishing third at Warwick last month and with improvement expected from that pipe-opener, he makes slightly more appeal. Surenaga stays well, as demonstrated by his recent Uttoxeter third, and makes up the shortlist.

Verdict

Officier de Reserve ran a couple of solid races in defeat in good handicap chases last season and could be hard to beat if returning in similar form for his new stable. Description and Turko look dangers, but neither can be relied upon in the jumping department.
