Half-sister to useful hurdler Joe Jo Star. Modest maiden on Flat (stays 1½m) and ran to only a similar level when runner-up on Fontwell hurdling debut over Christmas. Entitled to build on it, though.

Verdict

SPIRIT OF ROME was runner-up on her hurdles debut on Boxing Day to a useful type in Aiguille Rouge and the filly is expected to improve from that effort on her second outing for Harry Whittington. Cosy Club was third on his last start in Ireland behind Mitchouka and is respected on his first start for Dan Skelton, while hurdling newcomer Broughtons Admiral was consistent on the Flat and could just improve for going hurdling.

Verdict

SABLE ISLAND was fairly useful on the Flat, including with ease in the ground, and gets the nod to make a winning start over hurdles for Olly Murphy. Cosy Club showed an aptitude for hurdling in Ireland and is interesting having joined Dan Skelton, while Nigh Or Never arrives on the back of a recent second at Ludlow. Royale Zanzibar and Romanor are others who could go well in an open heat.

Pulled up sole start in points but has at least showed something in bumpers, probably needed the run last time. Big jump forward required on hurdling bow, though.

Verdict

Sunset Showdown was well supported for a bumper that has worked out well at Chepstow with the winner Good Boy Bobby looking a very useful prospect. However, he looked awkward under pressure on that occasion and it is hoped that was down to greenness so the vote goes to ROCK MY STYLE. The son of Marienbard reached a decent enough level over hurdles last season and can be forgiven being pulled up at Uttoxeter last March. Piton Pete and Cold As Ice look best of the remainder.

Verdict

SUNSET SHOWDOWN showed plenty of ability in quite a deep bumper at Chepstow in November, and appears as the type to do better now switching to hurdles over this longer trip. Rock My Style does set the standard on form despite having questions to answer on his return, while Cold As Ice should have more to offer both in the short and long term.

Continues to show little in this sphere, pulled up latest.

Verdict

This looks the weaker of the two divisions and CAROLE'S VIGILANTE has an excellent chance to gain his first success. The son of Flemensfirth ran with promise after two years off the track in a maiden hurdle at Ffos Las behind Oxwich Bay and is entitled to have benefited greatly for the outing. Jurys Out looks an interesting newcomer for Venetia Williams, while Dr Wells should improve for the step up in trip on hurdles debut.

Verdict

This should be a straightforward task for CAROLE'S VIGILANTE having shaped so promisingly after such a long time off when runner-up at Ffos Las on hurdles bow last month. Jurys Out starts his career under Rules in a weak event and is clear pick of the remainder.

Verdict

THE KINGS WRIT was fancied on his chase debut when squeezed for room and falling at the eighth fence at Bangor earlier on in the month. Providing that mishap hasn't left its mark, he should prove capable of winning for the first time under Rules for a team enjoying their best season. Steel Native is respected on his recent win over hurdles at Ffos Las and because James Bowen takes the ride, while Gonnabegood and Heavenly Promise both hold each-way claims on their recent efforts.

Verdict

BARON DU PLESSIS is getting better with each run over fences, and again showed improved form when third at Doncaster last month. He’ll be suited by this step back up in trip and seems sure to progress and win races in this sphere. The Kings Writ is well worth another chance given his recent pointing exploits, while Steel Native also has to be feared as a last-time-out winner.

Tailed off both completed starts in novice hurdles. More realistic chance now handicapping but needs to up his game considerably.

Verdict

ASKING QUESTIONS was putting in his best work at the finish when second over 2m4f at Ffos Las latest and promises to be suited by this stiffest test as he bids to overcome a 2lb rise. Recent Exeter third Steel Express is capable of playing a supporting role on these terms, while it is unlikely we've seen the best of Theatre Stage yet. It may be that this step up in trip unlocks some improvement from the Evan Williams inmate, following his disappointing performance when returning a beaten favourite over 2m at Ffos Las.

Verdict

ASKING QUESTIONS was much improved when runner-up on his Ffos Las handicap bow last month and might be up to going one better now with further progress a distinct possibility. The step up in trip is likely to see Theatre Stage in a better light and he's an obvious danger, while it would also be no surprise if bumper winner Odello left her previous hurdle efforts behind now handicapping.

Verdict

CARLOS DU FRUITIER was still in contention when coming down three out on his handicap debut at Doncaster and if that tumble has not left its mark, Ben Pauling's charge appears capable of running a big race off an unchanged mark. Otter Moon commands respect after opening his account in a maiden hurdle at Perth in the summer and can battle it out with fellow last-time-out winners Castafiore and Trans Express for the minor money.

Verdict

GASSIN GOLF shaped as though on the way back when finding only a couple of improvers too strong in a better handicap than this at Sandown 10 days ago, and in the hope that this doesn't come too soon, he is taken to complete his revival. Carlos du Fruitier remains with potential, with Otter Moon another to consider on return.
