Comfortable bumper winner at Newcastle in March 2016, but proved to be a disappointment at Perth next time. However, in good hands and bred to take to hurdling. May come back better.

Verdict

Lucinda Russell's point winner Saint Freule is tongue-tied on his first Rules appearance and it would be no surprise if Blair Campbell was able to steer him to victory. However, NICEANDEASY was an easy winner of a Newcastle bumper on his racecourse debut in March and could take all the beating here if turning up in the same form. Malcolm Jefferson's Only Orvieto has to come into calculations also, although the handler's horses have been needing their first run and others could be fitter in the finish here.

Verdict

NICEANDEASY overcame greenness to make a winning start in a bumper at Newcastle in March, and he’s likely to prove hard to beat if translating that form to hurdles. Only Orvieto has to be respected given connections, while Saint Freule is another to note.

Verdict

It looks telling that Brian Hughes has chosen ROBINS LEGEND out of the hose of options he potentially has to chose from here, and the Chris Grant youngster could be well treated on his chasing bow from a mark of 87. Rose Dobbin is mob handed, with the bottom weight Attention Please potentially the best of her trio, while Alpine Secret and Haul Us In are others to consider.

Verdict

WESTERN JO has made a positive start for current connections and may be worth chancing back over fences. Red Danaher and Perseid are feared most from the Sue Smith yard.

Well-bred filly who marked herself down as above average when defying a penalty to land an Aintree bumper 6 months ago and has very little to beat switched to hurdling, so should make a winning start.

Verdict

DAME ROSE was a bit in and out in bumpers but she did end her career in that sphere with a victory in a Grade 2 at Aintree in April. If the daughter of Network can run to that level today then it would be hugely surprising if she were to be beaten in this mediocre event. The Linksman beat a useful rival in a Sedgefield bumper in December but it is a big concern that he ran out on his only subsequent start. Royal Flag was useful enough on the Flat, winning twice, and any market support for him would have to be noted.

Verdict

DAME ROSE's bumper form marks her down as a cut above this lot so, provided her jumping is up to scratch switched to timber, she should have little trouble making a winning start at the expense of fellow hurdling debutants Royal Flag and The Linksman.

Generally gives his running, but makes little appeal from out of the weights in a more competitive race than he's used to.

Verdict

PURCELL'S BRIDGE had been off the track for a long time prior to his three starts towards the end of last season. He won well at Haydock in March and was not disgraced when finishing fourth at Wetherby last time out. It's a long time since Green Flag finished second in a Grade 1 at Kempton but there was some encouraging signs in his most recent effort at Kelso in April. Red Giant was disappointing at Bangor recently but has a chance based on his previous Kelso success.

Verdict

It's worth taking a chance on KILCULLEN FLEM in a handicap chase that might not take much winning. His form was in and out last season, but both his point and hurdling form giving him scope for improvement in this sphere, particularly now starting life for a new stable. Rose Dobbin's string is in excellent order, so her representatives; Purcell's Bridge and Smuggler's Stash should also go well.

Surprise winner of a Perth handicap in July and easily best effort since when second back there last month. Far from certain to back that up.

Verdict

Total Assets was a progressive and consistent mare last season and she has to be respected today, despite the 170-day break. That said, the preference is for GAMAIN, who won narrowly at Newton Abbot late last month and a 4lb rise in the ratings is not overly harsh. Native Optimist bounced back to form at Perth recently and another good performance can be expected from him this afternoon.

Verdict

This is open, but ISLAND HEIGHTS can boast a reasonable record when fresh, so in the hope the application of a visor helps him, he is offered on reappearance dropped in class. Gamain and Total Assets are feared most, though a better showing from Bellaney Knight would come as no surprise.
