Modest Flat performer who was well behind Sonoran Sands when ninth on last month's hurdling bow at Ludlow.

Modest Flat performer who was well behind Sonoran Sands when ninth on last month's hurdling bow at Ludlow.

Verdict

VIMIERO left behind two moderate hurdles efforts when a fine second to the 124-rated Ile De Re at Sandown latest and sets the form standard for the rest at which to aim. The consistent Guess Again is holding his form well and is unlikely to be far away while a spate of interesting newcomers add further spice to a very interesting opener. John Ferguson's Kadoodd, Venetia Williams' Brick Red and the Jim Best-trained Bollin Judith all merit close inspection in the betting.

Verdict

Brick Red is an interesting newcomer to hurdling but it's perhaps best to stick to those with jumping experience, Jonjo O'Neill's Vimiero narrowly preferred to last month's Ludlow second Sonoran Sands.

Finally off mark at 21st time of asking in 2½m Huntingdon handicap in January, but that was a weak affair and below form next time. Also has to race from 5 lb out of the handicap.

Verdict

WATERGATE, a 2m winner at Folkestone in January, is holding his form well at present and showed this longer trip holds no fears with a creditable Lingfield second when last sighted. Racing off the same mark today, compensation could be in the offing for Richard Rowe's representative. Roc De Guye remains only 3lb above his last winning mark and looks the main danger, with January C&D winner My Faithful Annie racing from 5lb out of the handicap proper.

Verdict

This trip is a maximum for Watergate but he still appeals as the most likely winner. Junior Jack could be the one for the forecast.

Looked in need of stiffer test in bumpers/novice hurdles and duly improved upped in trip (21f) on handicap debut when second at Market Rasen in January. Capable of better still.

Verdict

Hit with an 11lb rise for her comfortable C&D romp here in December, Elegant Olive might be worth taking on with HOHLETHELONELY. The selection was reluctant to race at Ludlow last time but he's expected to benefit from the return to this trip and remains on a competitive mark, only 5lb higher than when scoring over C&D in January. Handicap debutant Cold Knight and last-time-out Market Rasen second Powerful Ambition are others considered.

Verdict

Double Silver and Cold Knight both look capable of better upped in trip for their handicap debuts, but Powerful Ambition remains unexposed himself and could prove a tough nut to crack.

Point winner who improved when getting off mark over hurdles in 2¾m novice handicap at Wetherby in October. Winning start to life over fences at Fakenham in January and has more to come.

Verdict

DOT OR FEATHER took to fences like a duck to water when scoring on his chase debut at Fakenham last time. Ian Williams' representative jumped and travelled well, forging clear for a cosy victory, and today's stiffer test has the potential to unlock further improvement in this winning pointer. De Forgotten Man fell on his chasing bow at Warwick but has better to offer in this sphere, while a big run from Sound Accord cannot be ruled out, as he continues to slide down the handicap.

Verdict

Sound Accord wasn't at his best on his first run for Brian Ellison but that came in a fibresand bumper and this will be a much better guide as to how much ability he retains. He can get the better of Fakenham-scorer Dot Or Feather and De Forgotten Man.

Triple Flat winner in Germany. Some promising efforts over hurdles in Ireland in 2009, but showed nothing on debut for this yard after 2½-year absence last month and easy to oppose.

Verdict

MALANOS was no match for Ranjaan (first) and Lemon Drop Red (second) when third in a juvenile hurdle at Kempton in December but with both of those rivals likely heading for Cheltenham this month he clearly lost little in defeat. His latest Sandown second marked a forward step and it shouldn't be long until he is making his presence felt in handicaps. Handicap newcomers Hogan's Bridge and Go Set Go both warrant a market check and make most appeal of the remainder.

Verdict

Malanos is sure to go well after his second at Sandown last month, but Be All Man's bumper form gives him good claims off this opening mark, and with the drop in trip sure to suit on handicap debut, he is the selection. Prince of Dreams is another to consider.

Easily best effort in bumpers (fair form) when length third of 14 to Toto Corde Meo in mares event at Towcester on return, good headway from rear. Can't be ruled out on hurdles bow.

Verdict

PERSIAN SNOW left behind a moderate reappearance run at Ludlow when rattling the crossbar over 2m1f in a novice hurdle at Sandown last time and gets the verdict now returning to this longer trip. Featherintheattic jumped slowly on his hurdles bow at Bangor last time but is expected to improve with that initial experience now behind him. Second over C&D in January, Rowlestone Lad may also be worth giving another chance to after struggling on heavy ground at Ffos Las last time.

Verdict

Persian Snow sets the standard based on his second at Sandown last time, and the return to this trip should be in his favour. Featherintheattic and Baileys Concerto are both open to improvement and look the main dangers.

Sets form standard on second in a junior bumper at Newcastle in December, but he failed to build on that at Newbury next time, and uncertain to be suited by longer trip now. Cheekpieces now tried.

Verdict

Lataradud sets the form standard based on his Kempton fourth last time but is tasked with conceding weight all around here, penalised for his Worcester victory in May. This stiffer trip boosts the claims of Houseparty, who shaped with promise over 1m6f at Newcastle in December, but, after posting a poor effort at Newbury thereafter, marginal preference is for newcomer DESERT ROBE, who represents an in-form stable that is capable of readying a newcomer.

Verdict

With Houseparty disappointing last time, and Lataradud having twice fallen short under a penalty, this can go to Alan King's newcomer Desert Robe, who is bred to make his mark at this level.
