Verdict

AZPEITIA showed plenty of promise when she finished fourth on her debut at Doncaster and the strength of that form suggests that she is the one to beat today. Monadee is the pick of the remainder with racecourse experience but the main threat could come from the newcomers. Dubai Acclaim is the third foal out of a mare whose first two offspring have both earned black type, while Breathless Times cost 150,000 euros at the breeze-up sales.

Verdict

The strength behind MONADEE in the betting here a couple of weeks ago suggests he's held in reasonable regard by his leading stable and he's taken to build on that and strike at the third time of asking. Azpeitia made a pleasing start to her career at Doncaster last month and is likely to progress, while Dubai Acclaim and Breathless Times are newcomers who make appeal on paper.

Verdict

DANCE EMPEROR has to shoulder top weight but he was only beaten a length at Chelmsford last time out and a 3lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to stop him today. The likes of Beautiful Artist and Mr Gent should appreciate the step into nursery company, while Coal Stock and Bombshell Bay have solid each-way chances in an open event.

Verdict

DANCE EMPEROR registered an improved effort when runner-up over this trip at Chelmsford recently and a reproduction of that form might be enough to see him go one better here. Beautiful Artist hails from a leading stable and is a potential improver now switching to a nursery. Is It Off and Mr Gent are others who could fare better now tackling handicap company.

Hooded, twelfth of 13 in maiden (150/1) at this course (10f) on debut 14 days ago, slowly away.

Verdict

DORELLA met trouble in running on debut but that performance suggested that she should be capable of winning a race of this nature, especially as she is entitled to improve for that experience. Tribal Warrior and Tum Tum are others who could take a step forward this afternoon. Rusper won over this trip at Lingfield but a 7lb penalty leaves him vulnerable, while Holy Shambles and Mayer are worth noting in the market.

Verdict

TUM TUM showed plenty of promise amidst inexperience on his Newmarket debut and could have plenty of improvement in him. He gets the nod ahead of last month's Lingfield scorer Rusper and recent Wolverhampton debut fourth Dorella. Sovereign Duke is a newcomer who appeals on paper and would also enter the reckoning if the market speaks in his favour.

Verdict

Highbrow is the clear pick of those with racecourse experience, having finished third over C&D, but he does face some well-bred newcomers today. RETURNING GLORY is a half-brother to the high-class performer True Story and he is also from the family of Oh So Sharp. Caradoc cost 270,000gns as a yearling and is also respected on debut.

Verdict

HIGHBROW made a promising start to his career over C&D a fortnight ago and will likely be tough to beat with improvement on the cards. Returning Glory is a half-brother to a couple of smart performers and is expected to figure on debut, particularly if the market speaks in his favour, while Shakour is in top hands and should build on last month's Wolverhampton debut.

Lightly-raced filly. Last of 13 in handicap (7/1) at Newmarket (8f, soft), possibly amiss. Off 6 months. First run for yard after leaving Charlie Appleby and needs monitoring in the betting.

Verdict

PJ McDonald is an interesting jockey booking for PURE SHORES, who makes his stable bow for Ian Williams. The Dubawi filly, who was with Charlie Appleby, produced two of her best performances when on the all-weather for that handler, and a return to the synthetics here could see her play a forward part for her new trainer. Secret Return has the best known form in the race having placed twice in two starts at Wolverhampton, while Humbert is considered if returning to the form of his Thirsk debut stepping up in trip.

Verdict

HUMBERT wasn’t disgraced in a valuable sales race at the Curragh when last seen, and there could be more to come from him on first start since being gelded. Maximinus Thrax is an appealing newcomer, while Pure Shores is another who needs monitoring in the betting making his stable debut.
