Fair maiden on Flat at up to 2m for Luca Cumani. 9/1, never on terms on recent Catterick hurdle bow and looks more one for the longer term.

Verdict

SAO won over hurdles in his native France and he is fully entitled to improve for his recent debut for these connections at Wincanton last month. Distingo is a proven winner and has an official rating of 129 but he was beaten under a penalty last time out. Going Gold, Lord Duveen and Grapevine are others to consider in a wide-open event to open the card.

Verdict

It's taken a bit of time to get LORD DUVEEN back to the track after his debut fifth in the autumn but there was lots to like about that effort behind a few useful types and he can strike at the second time of asking. Sao was too headstrong on his British debut but is a possible big threat if that knocks the freshness out of him, while Grapevine's Flat ability suggests he's capable of better.

Verdict

COPAIN DE CLASSE was left alone when his only rival fell at the second as he won at Fontwell late last month. He is better judged on his third-placed finish to Benatar at Ascot back in November and he can race from the same mark this afternoon. Kayf Blanco has been knocking on the door of late and should give the selection plenty to think about, while Deauville Dancer may be a touch high in the ratings now but the seven-year-old cannot be discounted.

Verdict

COPAIN DE CLASSE looks the sort to get better with every race for the Paul Nicholls stable, and Sam Twiston-Davies will expect the six-year-old to prove more than good enough to take this contest. Vocaliser looks his biggest danger but may have to settle for second spot at these weights, leaving Free Stone Hill and Deauville Dancer to fight it out for third.

Won Perth novice handicap over this trip in April and continues to shape up well, another creditable effort when runner-up at Market Rasen (20.6f, good to soft) in December. Remains of interest.

Verdict

Zubayr has valid form claims but the ground may be against him this afternoon and, with that in mind, the preference is for JUST A STING. The son of Scorpion has been showing some encouraging signs in novice company this season and the switch to handicaps may bring about some improvement. Kildisart was a bit disappointing when last seen but it is too soon to be writing him off, while Graasten and Stick To The Plan are others to note.

Verdict

A good race of its type with STICK TO THE PLAN selected to come out on top. Dan Skelton’s charge has been shaping up well this season and appeals as the sort to carry on improving. Just A Sting and Graasten should both have more to offer and look solid alternatives.

Listed hurdle winner in France but inconsistent since joining this yard. However, showed what he's capable of when beating a good yardstick over this C&D 3 weeks ago.

Verdict

BRANDON HILL has been running consistently well all season and his last two runs over 3m here suggest that this shorter trip may bring out the best in him. If that is the case then the son of Beneficial could take plenty of beating for last year's winning connections. His stablemate Bun Doran is the opposite given that he has been a bit one-paced over 2m recently and his last victory came over 2m4f. Those looking for each-way alternatives should consider Bentelimar, Cepage and Orbasa.

Verdict

BRANDON HILL just went down to a well-handicapped stable switcher here (3m) last time, finished well clear of the rest, and should make another bold bid back down in trip off only 2 lb higher. Kilcrea Vale also bumped into one last time and is another to consider along with recent C&D winner Favorito Buck's.

Fifth in mares' maiden point in May 2016 but made an unpromising start to career under Rules when pulled up on hurdling bow at Exeter in December.

Verdict

Rod Milman wouldn't be a name usually associated with Saturday winners but he can land one here with his Chepstow scorer CHAMPAGNE CHAMP, who can improve again following that confidence booster. De Name Evades Me has plenty of point-to-point experience and now makes his rules debut for Fergal O'Brien, while Equus Amadeus came unstuck in a Grade One last time but could bounce back to his best following wind surgery and back at a more manageable level.

Verdict

CHOSEN PATH again shaped with promise when third in a C&D novice last month, and with progress on the cards, he is preferred to fellow previous winners Champagne Champ and Equus Amadeus. Of the rest, De Name Evades Me tasted success between the flags and represents a successful yard.

Shaped fairly well when third on chasing bow at Huntingdon in October, but has proved disappointing since and bit to prove now.

Verdict

ALLEE BLEUE may be the best option here having proved to be in rude health when second at Wincanton last time and Philip Hobbs' chaser appears well handicapped on his best hurdles form, rated some 16lb lower than his mark over timber. Invicta Lake remains well treated but has had trouble completing of late, while Abracadabra Sivola is another given a chance here by the assessor.

Verdict

The vote goes to ROYALE DJANGO, who appears to have benefited from a wind operation judged on his latest effort at Musselburgh where he was still in contention when falling 2 out. He remains on a very attractive mark. Allee Bleue has yet to match his hurdles form in this sphere but may well benefit from this stiffer test, while Invicta Lake, so unlucky at Plumpton recently, also merits respect.
