Deservedly off the mark in 6f Lingfield maiden in November 2010, but lightly raced and generally struggled in handicaps since, and this no easier.

Verdict

Stablemates Triple Dream and Island Legend locked horns over C&D last Wednesday with the former, who now carries a penalty, coming out on top. The latter is an admirable sort that should ensure there is no hanging around and he may be capable of reversing the form off the revised weights, seemingly with less opposition for the lead declared on paper. Preferred above both, however, is CAPTAIN SCOOBY, who made plenty of late headway to take third behind the aforementioned pair last time and races off a 2lb lower mark here. Estonia is capable of going well at this level and is another to consider.

Verdict

The trailblazing Island Legend could take some pegging back in an attempt to reverse last week's C&D form with Triple Dream, but preference is for Captain Scooby, who was closing the pair down quickly in the closing stages that day and can gain revenge on the revised terms.

Quirky handicapper who proved his stamina when third over C&D last time on first try at this trip. Had Lisahane Bog behind then, and capable of going close with a repeat of that effort.

Verdict

JOHN LOUIS improved for the step up to this trip when scoring at Lingfield last time and is taken to get the better of Hurricane Hymnbook, a neck second that day, to land the spoils, despite meeting that rival on 1lb worse terms. The selection is open to more improvement around middle distances and arrives fresher than most, having enjoyed the benefit of a five-month break prior to his return in January. Menadati shaped with promise over C&D latest and also merits consideration along with Understory, a C&D winner beaten by less than a length off 1lb lower in November.

Verdict

Hurricane Hymnbook conceded first run when second to John Louis at Lingfield, and is fancied to turn the tables now. A bigger threat may come from the quirky Menadati, who was a good third over C&D last time.

Second in 7f Lingfield nursery in August very much a stand-out effort, and appears to have very little chance at the weights, even if returning to that form.

Verdict

Best Trip is a capable polytrack sprinter on his day but has been struggling for form of late and needs to prove his effectiveness over this longer trip. Last Sovereign has sharpened up his fitness with a couple of recent spins on the all-weather and the booking of Jimmy Fortune for the Ollie Pears yard catches the eye. Nevertheless, MARAJAA remains the one to beat. The selection has been turned over in claimers the last twice but hasn't been beaten far on either occasion. Effective under these conditions, he will go close if running to his mark. Mambo Spirit won't be fazed by the return to 7f and makes most appeal of the remainder.

Verdict

Marajaa is best in at the weights, and his recent third at Lingfield has been franked by wins for those who flanked him, making him hard to oppose. Last Sovereign shaped well over C&D last time, and can give the selection most to do.

Verdict

Marco Botti's MUNIFICENCE shaped with promise on debut at Wolverhampton earlier in the month, staying on for third behind a winner who enjoyed the run of the race, and can put the experience gained that day to good use here. Mark Johnston has his string in good order at present so newcomer Red Orator is worth a market check to assess the confidence behind his chances. Oneiric is thoroughly exposed but looks to have the beating of Avon Supreme on official figures (rated 17lb superior).

Verdict

With Munificence not sure to improve on a fair debut effort, this looks a good opportunity for newcomer Red Orator to boost his yard's impressive 2012 record. Oneiric is better than she showed last time, and is preferred for the forecast.

Improved for switch to handicaps when third in 9.5f event at Wolverhampton in December, but failed to back that up when well held over this trip at Southwell last time, and much more required here.

Verdict

In a moderate contest, a speculative chance is taken on BENEATH, who was staying on well in the closing stages over shorter in fourth at Wolverhampton last time and will relish the step up to this longer trip. Back on polytrack, Ivan The Terrible is respected while there may also be more to come from Trecase, a course winner over 1m2f last time off 2lb lower. First-time blinkers could spark further improvement improvement in Fire In Babylon while a market check for former Barney Curley inmate Agapanthus is strongly advised now he is debuting for a new stable.

Verdict

Fire In Babylon looks the type who will benefit from headgear, and he can gain his second win this year. Trecase and Beneath look the main dangers.

Front runner who was collared on the line at Lingfield last month. Next 2 starts haven't been as good, however, so has bit to prove compared to some.

Verdict

The hat-trick seeking Torres Del Paine is raised in grade and up 5lb in the weights so preference is for CLEAR PRAISE, who has generally struggled for form since returning to the all-weather this winter but hinted a revival was imminent when staying on into third over an inadequate trip at Lingfield latest. Simon Dow's charge races off the same mark again here and gets the verdict now returned to his optimum trip. Earlsmedic remains on a competitive mark and appears the main danger, with Arctic Lynx, who found his stamina stretched over 7f last time, and Southwell claimer winner Pick A Little others considered.

Verdict

A few of these arrive in good heart, in particular Torres Del Paine, who can complete a C&D hat-trick. Arctic Lynx and Earlsmedic head the dangers.

One-time useful winner but no recent form on the level, and merely passed beaten horses when fourth of 8 over 1¼m here a week ago. Not sure to confirm form with Rosy Dawn at this trip.

Verdict

BY IMPLICATION took a forward step when blinkers were fitted over C&D latest and is taken to build upon that fourth-placed effort now eased 1lb in the weights. The main danger appears to be Rigid, who was a moderate fourth at Wolverhampton last month before a disappointing hurdles outing. My Sister and Very Well Red are capable of getting involved if putting their best foot forward but, on the whole, this is not a contest in which to get too heavily involved.

Verdict

Rigid is a solid proposition at this level, for all he's a maiden on the Flat, and he makes most appeal in a tricky finale. By Implication will go well if the blinkers continue to have an effect, while My Sister is feasibly handicapped on her return to this sphere.
