Just modest form in a trio of bumper outings and well held in mares novice at Wetherby on recent hurdling debut. Looks one for handicaps later on.

Verdict

ZALVADOS has run well the last twice at Cheltenham and Haydock in defeat and looks poised to claim an overdue success over hurdles. The five-year-old gave a well-treated previous winner a hard race just before Christmas, and a repeat would be good enough here. Lord Marmaduke looks open to plenty of improvement for Paul Webber but could be one for handicaps during the spring, while Captain Jack and Born For War look pencilled in for minor honours.

Verdict

Not the strongest of maiden hurdles, and ZALVADOS is taken to finally open his account over timber after making a progressive rival pull out all of the stops at Haydock last time. Shivermetimbers is likely to prove a different proposition in time, and can give the selection most to think about ahead of Lord Marmaduke.

Fairly useful on Flat (stays 13.5f) for Roger Charlton. Beaten at short odds on Fontwell hurdle debut last month but shaped better than result and could leave that form behind now.

Verdict

Shall We Go Now has been a beaten favourite in a bumper and over hurdles, and might not be the most tempting of propositions at likely short odds once more, despite Harry Fry's better form in recent weeks. Shalakar has raced keenly on both of his starts under Rules but cannot be overlooked. It might be worth taking a chance on COMRADE CONRAD, who receives a weight-for-age allowance and was rated in the low 80s on the Flat for Roger Charlton.

Verdict

MONBEG OSCAR’s lack of stamina was a noticeable excuse last time, and his form prior to that certainly reads well in the context of today’s race. He was second to the promising Maria’s Benefit on reappearance run, and appears a strong contender with this drop back in trip set to suit. Comrade Conrad, Shalakar and Hattaab are all open to progress and head the dangers.

Better for chase debut when runner-up in a novices' handicap at Wincanton (20f) in October, plugging on. In touch when fell last time, room for improvement in his jumping.

Verdict

Secret Door has proved frustrating to follow in his career so far, while Free Range was disappointing at Market Rasen on Boxing Day and connections reach for first-time cheekpieces now. Old Salt looks sure to appreciate the step up in distance, but this can go the way of recent course scorer DARK MAHLER. Emma Lavelle's charge did it well on his chasing debut and shaped as though a step up in trip would play to his strengths.

Verdict

WANDRIN STAR showed much improved form from chase debut when keeping on well in a novice over C&D last month, and with improvement on the cards, he is selected to make a winning handicap debut. Dark Mahler is entitled to progress, especially now back up in trip, while Megabucks shouldn't be taken lightly making his chasing bow for an in-form yard given he's a point winner.

Temperamental sort with one win from 25 runs. Fell in a 1st time visor over C&D earlier this month and last of 5 (beaten 56l) the race before, runs from 19lb out of the handicap and easy to ignore.

Verdict

Flashjack was an impressive eight-length winner on New Years' Eve, but has been hit with a 10lb rise which makes life tougher here, while Braw Angus comes here with his trainer in fine form and could make amends to supporters who sent him off favourite last time. Evan Williams' Virginia Chick is of serious interest in search of a hat-trick, though, preference is for Robin Dickin's GALACTIC POWER who bumped into a on-fire rival in a hot contest on Boxing Day and a repeat of the performance he put up in defeat there should see him play a serious part once again here.

Verdict

FLASHJACK stands out at these weights as he runs off the same mark as when winning by eight lengths over further at Warwick, despite making a mistake at the last. With no stamina issues he has a solid chance, though Virginia Chick will be a very serious danger if he gets this trip which is currently open to question. Third looks wide open with Galactic Power a tentative suggestion.

Left debut run for this yard behind back up in trip when drawing clear to score at Hereford last month. 7 lb rise looks justified and should make another bold bid.

Verdict

TB BROKE HER has gone from strength to strength since joining Matt Sheppard from Ireland and he still appears feasibly well treated to follow up his Hereford rout here against some battle-hardened rivals. The in-form Scott and Schofield combination field the 10-year-old Kilmurvy who can't be discounted, while Grove Silver has been threatening to land a telling blow and could build on his third last time for his shrewd connections. Bendomingo jumps straight into the handicap ranks having been beaten by Rocklander on his only chase start, while Abracadabra Sivola is a regular fixture in these types of contests who can't be ruled out.

Verdict

TB BROKE HER finally came good over fences at Hereford last time but that was only her second start for this yard and she may still have more to offer. Grove Silver took a step back in the right direction at Uttoxeter last month and is next best ahead of Goohar.
