14/1, 11 lengths behind Rococo Style in course novice hurdle on debut 3 weeks ago. Up in trip. May do better.

Verdict

PAPAGANA was seven lengths clear of the consistent Lily Of Leysbourne when they met at Ffos Las in May and, despite being penalised accordingly, she appears the one to beat with Oliver Sherwood's string operating well at present. Outofthisworld impressed when winning a bumper here in March last year and, despite disappointing when well held in Listed company in December, she has to be respected now switching to hurdles. Any market support for Rococo Style would be interesting at Steve Gollings' local track, while L'chamise and Tickerty Boo are others with each-way possibilities.

Verdict

PAPAGANA is probably the percentage call on the back of her hurdling debut success at Ffos Las in the spring, although strong market support for the Harry Fry-trained Outofthisworld, who made a winning bumper debut here before disappointing in a listed event, would put a slightly different slant on things. Lily of Leysbourne looks best of the remainder.

Fairly useful on the Flat, excuses when well held at Haydock in June. Sets the standard having made the frame on 2 of his 3 starts over hurdles last season.

Verdict

Three-time Flat winner WILLIAM HUNTER has yet to put his best foot forward over hurdles, but good ground and modest opposition give him a chance to get off the mark, with a spring wind operation also potentially helpful in this sphere. Rebel Commander was somewhat disappointing when in the care of Nicky Henderson but is interesting on his first start for Jack Barber following wind surgery, while Normal Norman returned to hurdles in respectable fashion at Huntingdon earlier this month and is worthy of a place on the shortlist.

Verdict

Dual bumper winner NORMAL NORMAN stayed on gradually from an unpromising position to finish second on his hurdles debut at Huntingdon 16 days ago. He looks sure to improve so receives the vote. William Hunter sets the standard and can provide the main threat on his return to jumping.

Seemingly hard to train but has shown there's still plenty of ability there when reaching the frame on last 2 starts (C&D first occasion). Another who can't be discounted.

Verdict

Ruth Jefferson's pair of mares Card Game and Sweet Holly are both course winners and it would be no shock to see them get involved, while Dentley De Mee's second in Grade 3 company at Sandown in the spring, off 4lb lower than today's rating, is one of the better pieces of form on offer. Black Mischief landed a Kempton handicap on his latest outing in April and has plenty of ability, which wasn't often seen last season when the stable was a little hit and miss. However, the combination of a wind operation and being gelded in the summer could help SOLO SAXOPHONE travel much more smoothly through his races, and the Fred Winter sixth can play a leading role here having been dropped 4lb by the assessor.

Verdict

A competitive heat. JERSEY BEAN's opening handicap mark looks workable and it might be worth taking a chance that he's primed for this return (won his bumper after a break). Solo Saxophone was last seen contesting the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival and is a very interesting runner, particularly if the betting speaks for him. Black Mischief and Show On The Road are also likely to figure.

Well held in bumpers/completed starts over hurdles and easily passed over on chasing bow.

Verdict

Highway One O One often got himself involved at the business end over hurdles last season and, having started life over fences with an eye-catching six-length victory over Cheltenham Festival winner Flying Tiger at Newton Abbot, he has to be given enormous respect here. However, preference is for DR DES, who landed three hurdle races in comfortable fashion last term and almost caused a shock when second in an Ascot Grade 2 over the Christmas period, confirming form in the process with the well regarded Mr One More. Dynamite Dollars was at his best early on in the season last year and this may be the best time to catch him, making his chasing bow for a leading team.

Verdict

HIGHWAY ONE O ONE created a good impression when making a winning start over fences at Newton Abbot last month and he can make full use of race-fitness/experience against a couple of rivals returning from breaks. Dr Des is feared most.

Bumper/dual winning hurdler for Philip Hobbs. Third outing for new stable when dead-heating on chase debut over C&D in July but jumping hasn't been totally fluent since. Cheekpieces may help.

Verdict

The consistent Master Dee went from strength to strength last season, culminating in a Grade 3 victory at Kempton in February, for which he received a further 6lb hike from the assessor to leave him tackling a career high mark now. Despite Conor Brace removing 10lb, the door is open for BALLYBOLLEY, who represents a stable in great form at present and he has interestingly dropped back down to the same mark as when successful over C&D in September last year, a race where the former could only manage third. The Unit has been in good order this summer and has to be on the shortlist, while Romain De Senam returns to his last winning figure and has had wind surgery since last sighted.

Verdict

BALLYBOLLEY won this 12 months ago from the same mark, and represents a yard adept at readying inmates after a break, so it's a safe bet to assume he well be well forward for this defence. Master Dee adds a touch of class to the race and the booking of a 10 lb conditional is a good move, while Catamaran du Seuil likely has more to offer this season.

Verdict

The form of Ballydun Oscar's win at Newton Abbot in July has not worked out very well, but he remains unexposed and cannot be discounted. That said, preference is for SHERIFF GARRETT, who has hit the crossbar on his last couple of starts over hurdles and a rating of 108 appears to be workable. Scented Lily put in a good effort at Warwick late last month and she is the pick of the remainder.

Verdict

BALLYDUN OSCAR only needed to match the form of his hurdling debut to score at Newton Abbot in July, yet he wasn't hard pressed by any means, and he can continue the good work now handicapping with the prospect of better to come upped in trip. Sheriff Garrett, in the hope his jumping holds up, and Scented Lily rate next best.

Verdict

FELICIDAD put in a promising performance on her debut in the French provinces back in August and she can put that experience to good use this afternoon. Arkyn is a half-brother to a useful hurdler in France and is a newcomer to note, especially if there is any market support for him. Others to consider are Surin and Roue De Charrette.

Verdict

Not much to go on but ARKYN hails from a yard with a good record in bumpers so earns the vote before market clues. Surin is an interesting runner from Germany, while Felicidad showed ability on her debut in France.
