Verdict

ERTIJAAL holds the course record over this trip on turf and showed himself to be as good as ever when making a winning return in a handicap in January. The form of that contest was franked when the runner-up, Hit The Bid, went in here two weeks ago, and with the terms of this Group 2 very much favouring the selection, he's taken to uphold the form. The main danger may be Bengough Stakes winner Blue Point, who is making his Carnival bow and is worth monitoring closely in the betting, for all he's dropping back in trip and needs to prove he has the gears to live with the Al Rayhi 'bullet.'

Verdict

Hard to see past ERTIJAAL, who is building up a tremendous strike rate in Meydan and can win this race for the second year running. Hit The Bid is in fine form and can chase the selection home again. Blue Point is an intriguing contender for Godolphin.

Verdict

Galvanize won twice here before Christmas but his form since the turn of the year suggests that he may be vulnerable to a better-handicapped rival today. SECRET AMBITION is another dual winner already this season and he arrives here on the back of a good run on the turf last time out. The son of Exceed And Excel accounted for a good field, including the aforementioned Galvanize, over 1m here last month and he returns to his preferred surface off a 4lb higher mark. Pirate's Cove is extremely inconsistent but he is more than talented enough to win a race of this nature, although he could also finish tailed off. Musawaat won a Newmarket handicap off a mark of 86 last August and he could be well handicapped if taking to the Dirt. Stall two could be a positive or a big negative for the son of Equiano because he will face a lot of kickback if missing the break. Nathr would win this race with plenty in hand based on his form from last season but his efforts so far in this campaign suggests that he is out of love with the game. One who should not be underestimated is Spring Offensive, who showed ability on his Dirt debut over an extended 1m1f and he should be more at home over this distance.

Verdict

SECRET AMBITION has plenty going for him today, back on dirt and landing the plum draw in stall 1. There are plenty who need to re-find their best form to feature but Galvanize has been consistent of late and is taken to head Spring Offensive for the minor placings.

Verdict

This race appears to lack strength in depth and the two to focus upon are KIMBEAR and Raven's Corner. The former was a useful performer in the US last year and he made an impressive UAE debut when winning by five lengths here last month. The four-year-old was a beaten odds-on favourite last time out but he may have bumped into a top-class rival on that occasion in Boynton and there is nothing of the calibre in this contest. Doug Watson's colt races off the same mark today and a more aggressive ride can be expected over this trip, which stall two also helps with. Raven's Corner won twice here late last season and he ran well to finish third over C&D at the beginning of the month. The handicapper has dropped him 2lb for that effort and he will be hard to keep out of the frame if not getting too upset in the stalls. The pick of the remainder is Adventurous, who was Group-placed for Mark Johnston as a juvenile in 2015. He had been off the track for a long time prior to his run on turf here last month and Salem bin Ghadayer has done well with his recruits from the Johnston yard.

Verdict

KIMBEAR is readily fancied to add to his good record of a win and a second here this year. The remainder are generally struggling for form at present but Raven's Corner can chase the selection home, ahead of Portamento and Adventurous.

Verdict

LESHLAA won by half the track over C&D last time and he is expected to follow up if returning in the same mood. The rest are probably playing for the silver medal, though Godolphin strengthen their hand further by declaring Carry On Deryck, Folkswood and Team Talk and none can be ruled out at this venue. A bigger danger than them all, however, may be Light The Lights, who won a C&D handicap before coming up short in a Group 2 here three weeks ago.

Verdict

LESHLAA ran out a ready winner of a competitive handicap over C&D a couple of weeks ago, and with the second going on to advertise the form since, he looks a strong candidate to follow up. Folkswood should be right in the mix too, while Light The Lights comes into calculations for third place.

Verdict

Championship showed little when only beating one rival home in the Al Fahidi Fort behind Jungle Cat but there is every chance he needed the run badly after almost a year off the track. Dream Castle improved for his first outing in the same contest last time when third but he has shaped on more than one occasion as though a drop back to sprinting would benefit as he tends to race quite freely. Noah From Goa will prove a lot happier back at a mile having ran a lacklustre race on that occasion when fifth, but the vote goes to BAY OF POETS. Charlie Appleby's gelding was no match for Benbatl when second in the Al Rashidiya but he doesn't face a rival of that quality in this field and he can take his first success at the Carnival.

Verdict

DREAM CASTLE did best of those ridden patiently when third in a Group 2 here 3 weeks ago and may still have more to offer in first-time headgear. Janoobi is respected, especially if having the run of things again, with Bay of Poets another to consider.

Verdict

Drafted has won his last two starts but they were over 6f and 7f and he does have stamina to prove today, while he also has an 8lb rise to contended with. That was earned for his four-length defeat of the recent winner Yalta here earlier in the month but he might be slightly flattered by that form. Yalta got all of his rivals well out of their comfort zone with blistering early pace and when he failed to stay the 7f trip, Drafted stayed on past very tired rivals to get the victory. CAPEZZANO has Dirt form figures of 2133 and that incudes a third-placed finish to Thunder Snow in the UAE 2000 Guineas over C&D last season. He is clearly a much better Dirt horse than on turf and that means that his last two starts can be forgiven. A mark of 96 may underestimate his ability and, while a move away from Charlie Appleby's yard is usually a negative, the Salem bin Ghadayer/Mikael Barzalona partnership have a great record on this track. Classic Emperor is an intriguing Hong Kong raider and he has won on the Sha Tin Dirt track on multiple occasions. It is hard to assess the strength of his form but he cannot be discounted today. Footbridge's form is mixed but he is a player if at his very best, while Ross was second in the 2017 Godolphin Mile but he needs a strong pace to be shown in his best light, something he might not get on this occasion.

Verdict

DRAFTED has looked an all round improved model equipped with a visor in recent weeks, clearing right away in the final 100 yds over shorter 21 days ago. He had little problem with the kickback then and can complete the hat-trick. Ross and Claim The Roses are others to consider, while Capezzano isn't one to dismiss totally.

Verdict

Another competitive handicap which sees Gold Star (first), Walton Street (second), EYNHALLOW (fourth), Huge Future (fifth) and Linguistic (sixth) all meet again having been within three and a half lengths of one another here three weeks ago over C&D. Gold Star was arguably value for further on that occasion having not had the clearest of runs and looks to have the scope for further improvement. However, Eynhallow was unlucky when not getting a clear run and he posted an exceptional effort considering he was keen throughout and took ages to be pulled up afterwards. The application of a first-time hood can make a big difference to the son of Nathaniel and the handicapper has left him on the same mark which could prove to be a very lenient decision. Huge Future was entitled to need the run returning from nearly 12 months off the track, while Linguistic now has Mickael Barzalona in the saddle which suggests this could be the time to catch him. The only other contender worthy of consideration that didn't contest that handicap here earlier in the month is Wolf Country, who was considered at one stage for the Derby last season and may well benefit from being gelded.

Verdict

GOLD STAR did very well to win a highly competitive handicap over C&D earlier this month after meeting trouble at a crucial point. He gets the nod to follow up and confirm the form with Eynhallow and Walton Street, also promising sorts representing the Godolphin blue.
