Verdict

Brian Ellison's BISCUIT QUEEN bumped into subsequent Listed winner Victory Command at Beverley when a clear second last time and that first attempt beyond 5f should stand the Harbour Watch filly in good stead for the challenge that ensues over 7f again here. Lady Lavinia has to be seen as a likely player having knocked on the door the last twice and having already scored at the distance at Redcar this term, while Richard Fahey's Call Him Al could be capable of improvement up in trip.

Verdict

LADY LAVINIA takes on 4 nursery debutants, but there is a pretty solid look to her form, and back on her correct mark, she is the one to beat. Call Him Al is a likely improver and is feared most.

Verdict

Two-time winner DEPUTISE failed to oblige for favourite backers in a competitive nursery at York last time, but the 110,000gns Kodiac colt can get his season back on track having been unsuited by the late ease in the ground on that occasion, and the sounder surface here is very much in his favour. Keith Dalgleish won this in 2016 and has a live contender once again in his course-and-distance winner Diamonique, while Haydock winner Armageddon has looked useful in her two outings so far and shouldn't be inconvenienced by the drop in trip.

Verdict

ARMAGEDDON could be smart and can follow up her Haydock victory. Deputise is narrowly preferred to Diamonique for the forecast.

Cheekpieces on for 1st time, respectable fourth of 8 in handicap at this C&D (good, 9/2) 17 days ago. Others more persuasive.

Verdict

John Quinn's Ascot Week broke his duck at Newcastle late last month and it is interesting that the Malton handler now swaps cheekpieces for a first-time visor on the four-year-old as he looks to follow up from a 3lb higher mark. Lotara has to be respected having knocked on the door the last twice and is still just 2lb higher than when last scoring, while Mark Johnston's course winner Ravenhoe is always foolish to rule out. However, Irish raider MARKHAN gets the nod here for the irresistible Jamie Spencer and Gordon Elliott combination and the gelding is 1lb lower than when third at Naas last time out.

Verdict

MARKHAN has become frustrating to follow but he arrives in good nick and appeals as being on a handy mark, so all looks set fair for a big run. Ascot Week, equipped with a first-time visor, and Lotara are also expected to feature.

2 wins from 5 runs this year. Good second of 9 in handicap at Leicester (6f, good to firm, 9/4) 43 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Ralph Beckett. Expected to remain competitive.

Verdict

Course-and-distance winner ARABIAN JAZZ has knocked on the door the last twice and was somewhat unlucky not to have held on when sent off favourite at Yarmouth last time. A 2lb rise for that narrow defeat appears fair and it would be no surprise to see Michael Bell's filly back in the winner's enclosure with Jamie Spencer taking over in the saddle. Super Florence was beaten a neck here over five furlongs last time and is interesting jumping up two furlongs now, while Edge Of The World is still only 4lb higher than when scoring at Leicester earlier this term and has to be considered on this year's form making her first start for John Quinn having changed hands for 70,000gns in July.

Verdict

C&D winner ARABIAN JAZZ has been in good order of late, finding only one too good at Yarmouth on her most recent outing. Her style of racing is well suited to the demands of this circuit and she is fancied to go well again. There are a whole host of in-form sorts in opposition though, headed up by Edge of The World and Crotchet.

Thrice-raced maiden. Seventh of 10 in minor event (20/1) at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 39 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Makes handicap debut.

Verdict

A very competitive race, despite the small field, with plenty of highly-progressive types going to post. Timoshenko has proven to be the archetype three-year-old improver for his yard and he merits the utmost respect despite finding himself on a career-high mark. That said, the preference is for ARTARMON, who won well at Sandown at the beginning of the month. The way he stayed on that day suggests that he may be suited by this longer trip and it may even bring about further improvement. Austrian School brings solid form to the table but he has to give plenty of weight away today, while Life On Earth needs to prove her ability to stay this trip.

Verdict

A handful of progressive 3-y-os in opposition with the narrow vote in favour of TIMOSHENKO. A typical Sir Mark Prescott improver for the switch to handicaps/longer trips, he readily completed a 4-timer at Chepstow last month and a subsequent 6 lb rise ought to be within range. Austrian School has often shaped as though this trip would suit ideally and he is next best, ahead of Life On Earth.

Sixth of 8 in handicap (5/2) at Hamilton (11.1f, good to firm) 27 days ago. Had previously put together a string of solid placed efforts and she's worth another chance to bounce back on balance.

Verdict

FALCON'S FIRE arrives here on the same mark as when he was successful over C&D last month and he must have a big shout once again this afternoon. New Abbey Angel was only a head behind the selection on that occasion and he should be thereabouts once again today. The shortlist is completed by Enemy Of The State and Blue Havana.

Verdict

BLUE HAVANA was proving consistent prior to disappointing at Hamilton 4 weeks ago, and on balance she is worth another chance in a race that won't take a lot of winning. Trautmann is the obvious threat having scored over C&D on his most recent outing, whilst market support behind Schindlers Ark would need to be viewed positively.

10½ lengths third of 8 to Jan Smuts in handicap (40/1) at this C&D (good to firm) 37 days ago, very slowly away. Others rate stronger.

Verdict

JAN SMUTS won well over C&D two starts ago but then struggled from out the handicap in a better race. This is an easier assignment for the veteran and he can race off his correct rating this afternoon. Pantomime is another who has tasted victory in recent months and she could prove to be the main threat, ahead of Hurricane Volta and Kuiper Belt.

Verdict

KUIPER BELT improved a chunk on his previous hurdling exploits when opening his account for Gordon Elliott at Perth last week, quickening clear under hands-and-heels riding. He should prove hard to beat from his lowly mark back on the level. Pantomime and the selection's stablemate Hurricane Volta can do battle for minor honours.
