6/1, third of 4 in handicap at Brighton (7f, good to firm) 16 days ago. May again find one or two too good.

Verdict

SERGIO LEONE has been a bit disappointing in his last couple of starts but the three-year-old still brings solid form to the table. A mark of 76 should be workable and the booking of Simon Walker also catches the eye. Oud Metha Bridge has proven to be very consistent in 2018 and he should be in the mix once again, while Cayuga and Hawridge Glory should also be noted.

Verdict

SERGIO LEONE has failed to build on his promising handicap debut in 2 subsequent starts, but this represents a drop in class and he makes plenty of appeal with the leading amateur aboard. Oud Metha Bridge is on a potentially favourable mark back on turf but an even bigger threat may be posed by Hawridge Glory, for whom the drop back to a mile may be a good move.

Once-raced maiden. Fourth of 9 in minor event at Windsor (6f, good, 66/1) on debut 12 days ago, hampered. Should progress.

Verdict

FOX COACH only found an experience rival narrowly too good when finishing second on his debut at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. With that run now under his belt he should take plenty of beating. Champion Brogie displayed minor promise at Windsor and is the pick of the remainder with experience but the main threat to the selection may come from the newcomers. Boitron cost 45,000 euros as a yearling and is out of a Group 1-placed dam, while Grenadier is closely related to a couple of black-type performers.

Verdict

Those with experience hardly set an exalted standard and newcomers GRENADIER and Boitron may be the pair to concentrate on. The market should be revealing but, as things stand, marginal preference is for Grenadier, who represents a yard doing well with 2-y-os this season and is certainly a likely-looking type. Fox Coach made a promising debut at Newmarket and is best of the rest.

Thrice-raced maiden. 16/1, second of 14 in minor event at Windsor (5.1f, good to firm) 10 days ago. Very much the one to beat.

Verdict

This is not the strongest novice race that will be run at Newbury this year but it is an ideal opportunity for STARCHANT to earn her first victory. The daughter of Gregorian has shown improvement with every start to date and she was only denied by a neck at Windsor 10 days ago. Pont Vert should improve for her first race, which came over this C&D late last month, and she appears to be the best of the rest. Any market support for Dawn Affair, Dotty Grand or I'lletyougonow would have to be noted.

Verdict

There were positives to glean from PONT VERT's C&D debut 16 days ago and, with improvement on the cards, she could be the way to go. Starchant should pick up a race before long judged on her solid placed efforts at Windsor and she is a much-respected main danger, for all that this step up in trip poses a question. Newcomer I'lletyougonow is most interesting of the remainder.

Verdict

SWEET CHARITY accounted for a subsequent winner when she won at Leicester in May and she was not disgraced when finishing last of four at Salisbury last time out. A mark of 78 may still underestimate this filly and she should be capable of winning at this level. Bodes Well put in a career best last time out and is an interesting handicap debutant, while Flight Of Fantasy and Never Surrender also make the shortlist.

Verdict

SWEET CHARITY got the better of a subsequent winner when opening her account at Leicester in May and, not disgraced in a Class 3 Salisbury handicap next time, she is the most appealing of these. Taurean Dancer shapes as though he'll benefit from this step up in trip and is feared most ahead of Flight of Fantasy and Never Surrender.

Verdict

ORANGE SUIT returns to the scene of his debut success having finished fourth behind Loxley on his most recent start at Newmarket in May. He pulled hard on that occasion so there is every chance he'll take a fair step forward from that outing and prove capable of defying his penalty. Ben Vrackie comes from a good family which includes Group 3 winner Berkshire and is respected on his first start, while Monoxide and Armed both have solid form which gives them a chance.

Verdict

MONOXIDE built on his encouraging debut when runner-up at Sandown and, with the promise of even better to come, he is taken to make it third time lucky. Orange Suit remains with potential and stablemate Daisy Chain also enters calculations but Armed, who promises to be suited by this step up in trip, is feared most. Ben Vrackie looks the part on paper and is very much one to note in the betting.

Winner at Lingfield in May. Third of 5 in handicap at Lingfield (11.6f, good to firm, 7/1) 12 days ago. Has work to do.

Verdict

SEINESATIONAL has clearly improved for racing on fast ground having won his last two outings at both Windsor and Brighton, improving 11lb for those efforts, and the son of Champs Elysees could yet have more to come with the extra furlong likely to be in his favour. Outofthequestion built on some promising efforts with a win here over 1m3f last time and he has to be considered along with Cross My Mind, a winner 10 days ago at Windsor.

Verdict

GENERAL GINGER was unlucky not to finish closer on handicap debut in this sphere at Lingfield and, potentially very well-handicapped judged on his jumps form, Harry Fry's charge could be the answer. Outofthequestion deservedly opened his account here recently and is a big danger, while recent Windsor winner Cross My Mind, Leoro and Sufi are all live each-way players.

Latest win at Bath in June. 8/1, good second of 15 in handicap at Wetherby (7f, good to firm) 20 days ago. Cheekpieces back on and can give another good account.

Verdict

HARRY BEAU couldn't have won any easier when taking a Chepstow handicap by seven lengths nine days ago and he is very much the one they all have to beat coming into this 2lb well-in under a 6lb penalty. Nick Vedder has gone very close to winning on his last couple of starts and has to be considered once again, while the drop back in trip should benefit Skydiving on the evidence of his Nottingham effort last time where he was fourth behind Tahreek.

Verdict

The suspicion remains that NICKLAUS is capable of a good deal better than he's been able to show so far this season and can back that theory up by bagging this prize. Next on the list is Nick Vedder, who has gone close the last twice and his turn is surely near. Vincenzo Coccotti also enters the reckoning.
