Verdict

DOITFORTHEVILLAGE was last seen winning a handicap over fences at Cheltenham's BetVictor meeting and connections look to take advantage of a 26lb lower mark over timber where it would be very surprising were he not able to be competitive here. Friday Night Light looks capable of improvement now making his handicap debut over obstacles, while Final Choice returns to the scene of his finest hour and his most recent couple of efforts last season were too bad to be true.

Verdict

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT makes a quick switch to handicaps and he's well treated on his French Flat form, so he could be the answer in what is an open contest. Doitforthevillage arrives on the back of a career best over fences and is much lower in the weights over timber, so he's feared, along with thriving mare Ambre des Marais.

Dam half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (2m/17f winner) Flaming Weapon. Modest on Flat, (stays 1½m) and others preferred.

Verdict

OK CORRAL has always had a fairly lofty reputation but comes with his issues having only seen the racecourse once since April 2015 when he finished runner-up in a bumper to Yorkhill at the Punchestown Festival. He made a satisfactory start to his hurdling career when winning at Kempton last May and should be able to defy the 6lb penalty after a 247-day absence. His stable companion Whatswrongwithyou has shown plenty of ability combined with a quirky attitude, having finished second on hurdling debut behind Listed placed Ainchea, and will probably make it a 1-2 for the Nicky Henderson team. Sandro Botticelli was a Listed winner on the Flat and could be an interesting recruit to the National Hunt game.

Verdict

OK CORRAL remains a top prospect and can make it 2 from 2 over timber having won so impressively on his belated return at Kempton in May. Stablemate Whatswrongwithyou has shown he has what it takes to do well in this sphere and looks the main threat, while What’s Occurring should learn from his hurdling debut third at Plumpton.

Verdict

There was an awful lot to like about the chasing debut of SAINT CALVADOS as he jumped with aplomb over C&D at the back end of last month before striding clear with purpose to beat Remiluc by nine lengths. A 4lb rise could underestimate Harry Whittington's gelding and he looks the type to potentially prove capable of aiming higher than handicaps. Tree Of Liberty won well at Ludlow on his first try over fences and he looks an obvious threat off 8lb higher, while Jameson has plenty of talent if putting it all together which he hasn't necessarily done on all his starts.

Verdict

SAINT CALVADOS jumped and travelled well when making a successful British/chasing debut with an all-the-way win over C&D last month, and he looks an exciting prospect over fences. Tree of Liberty is also a potentially smart chaser in the making as he powered clear of his rivals in taking fashion at Ludlow recently, while Jameson isn’t to be underestimated either.

Verdict

Kimberlite Candy finally put it together over fences when winning a novice handicap at Market Rasen on Boxing Day and appeals as the type to improve for stepping up in distance. You Say What was disappointing on his latest start at Exeter but had been progressive before that and can easily land a blow here. Two Smokin Barrels still looks feasibly handicapped on the pick of his form but the vote goes to MILLANISI BOY as he improved plenty for the application of cheekpieces and more forceful tactics when winning at Chepstow last month. A repeat of those tactics could see a 3lb rise in the weights prove fairly lenient.

Verdict

INDY FIVE looked a natural over fences when making a winning start in this sphere at Taunton last month and is open to plenty of improvement being so low mileage. Kimberlite Candy finally came good at Market Rasen last time and can do better again, while Horatio Hornblower is of interest in first-time headgear and with Sam Twiston-Davies back up.

Well held in Newton Abbot bumper in October and similar story in a couple of hurdles since. More one for handicaps later on.

Verdict

All Currencies and Lady Of Lamanver both set a fair standard on their hurdles form with the former having placed in a Listed contest here over 2m and the latter having finished second in the Mares' Final over C&D in April 2016. However, they both could prove vulnerable to less exposed types and trainer Nicky Henderson looks to hold a strong hand with two point-to-points winner in KUPATANA and Loveherandleaveher. Preference of the pair goes to the former as she cost 120,000 pounds at the Aintree Goffs Sale last year after an impressive win on her only start at Monksgrange and has reportedly been working well in the lead up to her Rules debut. Her stablemate brings some solid point form to the table and should hold her own in this field.

Verdict

LADY OF LAMANVER showed herself to be better than ever when making a successful return from an absence in handicap company at Fontwell in October and can follow up with further progress on the cards, although strong market support for the Nicky Henderson Irish point recruits Kupatana and/or Loveherandleaveher would put a slightly different slant on things.

Delegator gelding. Half-brother to 6 winners, including Leuci Lamps. Dam 7f-1m winner in Italy. Respected on debut.

Verdict

KNIGHTHOOD wouldn't have the typical National Hunt pedigree coming out of a Group 2-placed mare on the Flat in Italy but there is the potential that he could have too much speed for his rivals on his racecourse debut. It also looks notable that his trainer sends him for his racecourse debut here with the yard tending to send some of their better bumper horses to the Berkshire venue. Up To No Good is a half-brother to the stable's Grade 2 winner Keeper Hill and has Richard Johnson in the saddle, while Coole Well comes from a solid family and is respected on debut for Ben Pauling.

Verdict

Potentially a strong bumper with BADDESLEY KNIGHT and Black Lightning setting a good standard, along with plenty of interesting newcomers to consider. Greenness possibly prevented Baddlesley Knight from making a winning debut at Fontwell and he's taken to make amends.
