Verdict

The field is full of newcomers here and the market should prove a useful guide in establishing which of the runners are ready to fire first time out. EARLOFTHECOTSWOLDS gets a tentative vote as he represents a stable who can ready a debutant in this sort of event. Tom George representative Seddon and Olly Murphy's Costa Galera are others expected to make their presence felt.

Verdict

No form to go on, so it seems prudent to stick with the successful bumper yards, with SEDDON preferred to Earlofthecotswolds before market clues. Ask Paddington was the most expensive of those that went through the ring, so also deserves a mention.

Verdict

Empire De Maulde has won four bumpers in France and is worth a market check now making his hurdles debut on his first start for James Ewart. ECHO WATT shades preference, however, having gained experience over timber already when fourth at Sandown earlier in the month. Beach Break has been performing to a consistent level in defeat in similar contests recently and has place possibilities for a stable among the winners.

Verdict

It's not easy to equate what EMPIRE DE MAULDE achieved in winning 4 bumpers in Corsica, but he's a half-brother to a chase winner and this doesn't look to be a strong juvenile contest. Beach Break sets the standard, but Echo Watt will surely know more this time and he is feared most.

Poor maiden chaser who could pick up the pieces if the favourite slips up.

Poor maiden chaser who could pick up the pieces if the favourite slips up.

Verdict

Proven on bottomless ground, Tim Easterby's VERY FIRST TIME struck in a C&D handicap last month and rates the one to beat at the weights. Westend Theatre and Under The Red Sky have plenty to find on these terms and both are just as unappealing for betting purposes as Trust Me I'm A Dr, who is winless from 15 starts between the flags and now debuts under Rules, and Thedfactor, who probably needs to find around four stone of improvement in first-time cheekpieces if he's to trouble the selection.

Verdict

This should be a straightforward task for VERY FIRST TIME to complete a third chase win as long as mishap is avoided. Westend Threatre is pick of the remainder.

Verdict

Oscar Star must defy a penalty for scoring over 3m at Southwell last time and may be vulnerable to Stuart Crawford's raider ARDEAN LASS, who receives 6lb from the first-named and should be thereabouts if building on a solid maiden hurdle effort at Ayr earlier in the month. My Old Gold is closely matched with the selection on their Ayr clash in December and has place claims along with Birch Vale, who has shown promise in bumpers.

Verdict

OSCAR STAR is a strong-staying type who’s going the right way and she may well be up to defying a penalty for her in-form yard. Ardean Lass should be on the premises again, while the well-bred My Old Gold and hurdles debutante Birch Vale look sure to appreciate this stiffer test.

Verdict

HEARTASIA, a dual bumper winner last year, has been knocking on the door in two maiden hurdle outings at Musselburgh and is expected to give a good account of herself off an opening mark of 105. Bill D'aron is worth a market check now returning from 626 days off the track and The Lady Rules, tho was third over track and trip latest, is another with strong place claims. Le Frank has claims if turned up after a planned engagement at Haydock on Saturday.

Verdict

Dual bumper winner HEARTASIA has been better than the result (caught too far back) when third in a couple of outings over hurdles at Musselburgh and looks on a good mark for her handicap debut. Le Frank has the potential for better and would be a possible threat if turning up after Haydock on Saturday, while The Lady Rules was third in a C&D handicap last time.

Two wins from 47 NH runs. Fifth of 8 in handicap chase (20/1) at Sedgefield (16.4f, soft) 26 days ago. 9 lb out of handicap.

Verdict

ROSQUERO bolted up at Ayr earlier in the week and he will be extremely hard to beat if fully recovered from those exertions, despite having to carry a 7lb penalty. Black Kettle was clearly not right last time out, has had wind surgery since then and he is better judged on his run at Sedgefield in September. Others to consider are Oak Vintage and Where's Tiger.

Verdict

BLACK KETTLE showed promise on the first of 2 starts for Rebecca Menzies in September and might be worth siding with to make a successful return from a break. Where's Tiger made an encouraging return from a long absence over C&D last month and ought to build on that, while Oak Vintage had an excuse last time and is likely still in good form.

10/1 and hooded for 1st time, good fifth of 16 in handicap hurdle at Wetherby (24.1f, soft) 25 days ago.

Verdict

BALKINSTOWN has been running reasonably well over hurdles of late and looks fairly treated off 97 for Robert Stephens. Wolfslair has been dropped 5lb since last seen at Catterick, while Honeychile Ryder returned from a 431-day absence with a reasonable performance at Wetherby last time and deserves plenty of respect. Dragonfli looks suited by this step up in distance for Lucinda Egerton and has scope for improvement on just his second handicap start.

Verdict

DRAGONFLI looks well worth a flutter with the step up in trip likely to suit. Ceegem could be the biggest danger ahead of Fiddler's Flight.
