Beaten 16¼ lengths when eighth of 9 to Alfred Richardson in handicap at this C&D (12/1) 23 days ago, so clearly has work to do.

Verdict

Alfred Richardson missed the break but still bolted up over track and trip last time. He's been hit with an 8lb rise as a consequence, so marginal preference for win purposes is for FIRST FLIGHT, who is back on his last winning mark and hinted his turn was fast approaching when returning to form with a solid third over C&D latest. Black Isle Boy is better known for his sprint exploits but he's 2lb below his last winning rating and there are clues from his breeding he may well stay 1m at the first attempt.

Verdict

ALFRED RICHARDSON needs another personal best having gone up 8 lb for last month's C&D victory, but he did the job in good style that day and may well be equal to this task. Though seemingly passed over by Daniel Tudhope in favour of Black Isle Boy, Grandee could be the pick of the O'Meara-trained trio, particularly if they go hard up front, while Truth Or Dare also enters calculations.

Verdict

Lexington Palm enjoyed the run of the race when making all over 6f at Catterick last time but she may be vulnerable at this expansive track now stepped back up in trip under penalty. Preference is for ARMS OF THE ANGEL, who has shown some ability in two outings over 1m, including when third here on debut, and may benefit from this drop back in distance. Wolverhampton seller winner Queen Of Scheme looks best of the rest.

Verdict

While ARMS OF THE ANGEL is likely to come into her own over middle distances next year, she showed more than enough on debut here last month to suggest that a race of this nature would be within her grasp. Lexington Palm has to be feared on the back of her Catterick victory, but she will probably struggle to concede 8 lb to the selection and a bigger threat could be posed by Queen of Scheme.

Verdict

Not After Midnight weakened inside the final furlong when last seen over 7f here 12 months ago and is worth a market check now dropping back in trip on her return from a break. With the benefit of a recent run to her name, however, THIRLMERE shades the vote in the hope she can step up on her 5f debut fourth here now granted this additional furlong. Wind Storm, having her second run for Karl Burke, is another to consider.

Verdict

There should be better to come from WARRIOR GODDESS, who shaped well when fourth on debut at Doncaster in June and is likely to benefit from the step up to 6f. She is marginally preferred to the similarly promising Thirlmere. Wind Storm sets the standard based on her efforts during the spring, but she failed to fire back from a break on debut for this yard last month.

Verdict

Twilight made it four wins from her last six starts when scoring at Leicester and Tim Easterby's sprinter has to be respected, although a further 4lb rise will obviously make life tougher. Island Of Life is interesting stepping up from 5f having caught the eye with some staying-on finishes in recent times. However, preference is for handicap debutant PLAY MATE, who was reportedly unsuited by good ground at Ayr when trying seven furlongs and should prefer dropping back in distance on her all-weather return.

Verdict

It's worth chancing TRICKSY SPIRIT, who has been keeping better company than this subsequent to winning at Bath in May and she figures on a workable mark. Twilight arrives here on the back of victories at Hamilton and Leicester, but it remains to be seen whether she can perform to a similar level back on the AW. Consequently, the unexposed Play Mate and Island of Life rate the main dangers.

Verdict

Mossy's Lodge has to be respected following her victory over C&D at the beginning of the month, but her penalty means that she is 2lb wrong at these weights and that has to be a concern. With that in mind, the preference is for I AM DANDY, who finish second at the same meeting and he arrives here 2lb well in. Others to note are Cadeaux Boxer and Totally Magic.

Verdict

CADEAUX BOXER was returning from a 10-week break when third to Mossy's Lodge over C&D last week and the 5-y-o is taken to emerge on top this time. Miss Bates remains winless following 16 attempts, but she went close here recently and should give another good account, while Full Disclosure and Let Right Be Done both make some each-way appeal.

Verdict

KAVORA was only denied by a head when finishing second over 7f here on Saturday, for which she is due to go up 1lb so she's well in at these weights and is taken to go one better this evening. Highwayman has run well in defeat a couple of times in recent months and he could make the frame once again, while Silk Mill Blue has won twice here in his last four starts and he is an obvious threat to the selection.

Verdict

THECORNISHBARRON performed below market expectations on debut for Brian Ellison at Wolverhampton and is now 0-20 on the AW, and 1-35 overall. However, he's lurking on a dangerous mark and is worth chancing in a handicap bigger on quantity than quality. Kavora went close here recently and should be in the thick of things once again, while Silk Mill Blue, a C&D winner last time, also merits respect.
