Surprise winner of 1m Kempton maiden on debut in October, but has taken steps in the wrong direction subsequently.

Verdict

The Queen's CALL TO MIND is entered in the Derby and the King Edward VIII and the Galileo colt looks to provide a live chance of supplying a Royal winner in either the premier Classic for three-year-old colts or at Royal Ascot. He was a likeable victor over a mile at Newbury on debut despite showing signs of greenness and the step up in trip now looks the logical step towards his lofty mid season targets. Desert Skyline was a dual winner as a two-year-old and is interesting now reappearing while Valcartier was an eye-catching winner at Nottingham and could have plenty more to come. The main danger, however, may come from Leshlaa who looked to have a bit up his sleave when winning a handicap over course and distance at the Guineas meeting and a strong follow up here would be no surprise.

Verdict

This represents a significant step up in class for Newbury maiden winner CALL TO MIND, but he's bred to be smart and an entry in next month's Derby suggests that he's held in high regard. Leshlaa is well worth a crack at a race like this following his C&D handicap success, while Zumurudee shouldn't be underestimated and Desert Skyline and Valcartier are also promising types.

Made a winning debut on the July course (7f) here last summer. Hasn't progressed in couple of subsequent starts, but better than the bare result on each occasion and it's still early days.

Verdict

Plenty of the protagonists here are changing tact having come up short in their early season targets, with LARCHMONT LAD the one to watch, now dropping back to seven furlongs having finished towards the rear in the 2000 Guineas last time. Seven Heavens has yo-yo'd between distances lately and he steps back up in trip now with plenty of question marks surrounding both his temperament and ability, while Taamol didn't appear to stay at Newcastle and the form of that contest was let down in the Dante this week. Of the remainder, Desert Frost looked like a horse with potential when claiming a Doncaster maiden on his debut.

Verdict

Richard Hannon has saddled the winner of this race twice in recent years and LARCHMONT LAD could be another for the yard. Defeats in the Craven and 2000 Guineas here in recent weeks haven't exactly enhanced his reputation, but these waters are calmer and his C&D Group 3 victory last season represents solid form. Unbeaten Desert Frost merits respect, along with Masham Star.

Won twice for Richard Hannon last season but ended 2016 on a low-key note and, though not disgraced on return/debut for new yard at Chester, he looks up against it here.

Verdict

EKHTIYAAR lost little in defeat when second over this trip at Doncaster last month and is expected to remain competitive following a 4lb rise. Quench Dolly is thriving at present and should give it her best shot on the front end, while there is likely to be more to come from recent Bath maiden winner Esprit De Corps now he goes handicapping. Recent C&D second Eqtiraan has a 5lb rise to contend with but he is no forlorn hope for a place.

Verdict

This is a far tougher assignment than the one ESPRIT DE CORPS was presented with on his reappearance at Bath, but he displayed a good turn of foot that day and there should be better to come now that he's pitched into a handicap. Holmeswood was behind Ekhtiyaar at Doncaster, but the fitting of cheekpieces may help and he is feared most. The hat-trick seeking Quench Dolly also merits respect.

Half-sister to several winners and clear signs of ability on debut in 5f minor event at Beverley where she did too much too soon. Open to improvement.

Verdict

This race could well be dominated by DI FEDE and Take Shelter based on their meeting in a conditions race at Salisbury last month, where they finished fifth and second respectively. The former was making her debut on that occasion, whereas the latter had already run at Newmarket, and this extra furlong will be a big help to this half-sister to the former Ebor winner Dirar. Villa Tora is the pick of the remainder with experience and Tajaanus is a very interesting newcomer.

Verdict

TAJAANUS makes plenty of appeal on paper and the hint should be taken if there's confidence behind her in the betting. Take Shelter looks sure to pick up a race before long, but the selection may have most to fear from Di Fede, who shaped with plenty of promise at Salisbury and the extra furlong here will be in her favour.

Long time since sole career win, but has caught the eye in 7f handicaps at Doncaster and Catterick this season. He's well-handicapped and a bold bid is on the cards here.

Verdict

Robanne has some nice form from last season but has to carry top weight and might find that too big of an ask in a field full of nicely treated rivals. War Glory often travels well into his races and has to enter calculations now dropped back to seven furlongs, while Firmdecisions likes it here and has to be respected. Richard Fahey's BALLYMORE CASTLE catches the eye at the bottom of the weights under Sammy Jo Bell and a mark of 81 could see the five-year-old return to winning ways in conditions that should suit.

Verdict

BALLYMORE CASTLE again shaped as though an overdue victory is imminent when fifth at Catterick last time, finishing with running left after encountering traffic problems. Granted better luck this time, he will prove a tough nut to crack. War Glory is likely to give another good account and he is feared most ahead of Firmdecisions and King of Naples.

Shaped well both starts last season and chased home a potentially useful filly on her reappearance at Newbury (1¼m). Holds Group-race entries and she has to be high on the shortlist here.

Verdict

God Given is a half-sister to Postponed and, while she is unlikely to reach the same heights as her sibling did, she is more than capable of picking up a maiden sometime soon. That said, the lack of a recent run means that the nod goes to STAR ROCK. The daughter of Fastnet Rock showed promise in both starts as a juvenile and she clearly took a step forward when second to a potentially useful filly at Newbury last month. Marie Josephe and Really Super are others to note.

Verdict

GOD GIVEN showed plenty of ability in 2-y-o maidens won by leading Oaks candidates Sobetsu and Shutter Speed. She will relish this stiffer test and is marginally preferred to Star Rock, who is also expected to benefit from the step up to this trip. Really Super and Marie Josephe can do battle for minor honours.

Rather hit-and-miss subsequent to getting her head in front at Leicester last summer and, still 7 lb above that winning mark, she's probably worth taking on.

Verdict

Acclaim The Nation was a gutsy winner at Doncaster and won't go down without a fight again, while Stake Acclaim was sent off favourite last time and remains capable of better. Consulting could be worth a second look on his first start for the Stuart Williams stable, but slight preference is for JUSTICE LADY, who was steadily progressive last season and should have plenty more to offer following another winter on her back.

Verdict

STAKE ACCLAIM might be the one having dropped to a workable mark. Paddy Power is another on a fair mark, while Consulting is worth keeping an eye on on his first start for a new stable.
