Poor form sole start in bumpers and comfortably held both outings over hurdles.

Verdict

CROOKS PEAK made a winning debut in a 2m1f bumper here last year before going on to win a Listed bumper at Cheltenham and is worth monitoring closely in the betting ahead of his hurdles bow. A Ludlow bumper winner in March, Rouge Vif is similarly returning from a break and is expected to give a good account now tackling obstacles for the first time. It's Got Legs appears the pick of those with previous experience over timber to their name.

Verdict

An interesting opener with ROUGE VIF the selection. There was plenty to like about the way he won a bumper at Ludlow in March and he seems sure to make his mark over hurdles given he's from a good jumping family. Crooks Peak is another fine hurdling prospect who is sure to have his supporters. Colonel Custard is also respected.

Going the right way over fences this summer, scoring at Stratford/Perth (2m). Even better form when runner-up at Worcester next 2 starts and the one to beat on these terms.

Verdict

Dolos rattled the crossbar at Ayr when last sighted and commands respect on these terms. He does have a 174-day absence to overcome, however, so it may be worth siding with Dan Skelton inmate ONE FOR BILLY, who lost little in defeat in a novice chase at Worcester last month and has the potential advantage of a recent outing to his name. JLT third Benatar has gone well fresh in the past so is another to consider on his seasonal bow.

Verdict

A good quality event and the progressive ONE FOR BILLY is the one who looks favoured by the weights. All of his rivals are returning from a lay-off, with Dolos and Rocklander feared most.

Winning pointer who progressed from a low base in novice hurdles to end 2017 but suffered a heavy defeat on handicap debut in March (21f). Up markedly in trip and 4 lb "wrong" on return.

Verdict

Rolling Maul has found a resurgence in form having won his last two outings at Worcester and Perth, but now has to contend with a hefty rise in the handicap. Timeforben won over C&D last month where she appeared to relish the step up in trip along with the addition of first-time blinkers, and a 7lb rise seems fair for that effort. Clondaw Cian lost his way over fences last season, but has gone well fresh over timber in the past and is 2lb higher than his last winning mark. The vote, however, goes to VODKA ALL THE WAY, who ended last season with a win at Exeter in a novice hurdle and he looks to have the potential for further improvement in handicaps.

Verdict

TIMEFORBEN improved again when recording win number 3 over this C&D last month, and a 7 lb rise ought not to prevent a very bold follow-up bid. Rolling Maul is also at the top of his game and is dangerous if allowed to dictate matters, while Clondaw Cian lurks on a temping mark returned to timber back from a break.

Highly progressive over hurdles last season, completing 5-timer in Doncaster Grade 2 with another relentless front-running display. Successful on her sole outing in points and obvious claims.

Verdict

An intriguing contest on paper with Flying Tiger the only member of the field with chasing experience having chased home Highway One O One over C&D last month. Maria's Benefit sets the standard having won a Grade 2, against her own sex, over hurdles at Doncaster in January before setting the race up for Laurina at the Cheltenham Festival when set alight by one of the winner's stable companions, eventually finishing fourth. She appeared at her best when able to dominate, though, and won't be able to get her own way with LOUGH DERG SPIRIT in the field. Nicky Henderson's gelding has gone well fresh on both his seasonal debuts, and his point-to-point form is strong having chased home his stable companion, Claimantakinforgan, on debut before getting the better of Minella Warrior, a useful type for Kim Bailey, in May 2016. Mont Des Avaloirs has the ability to make his mark in this contest.

Verdict

All 4 of these were useful over hurdles but MARIA'S BENEFIT was the most progressive and was also successful on her sole outing in points. Lough Derg Spirit also has a pointing background so may emerge as the biggest threat.

Winner at Taunton (3m) in February 2017 but she ended the year on a low-key note and she has a lengthy absence to overcome here.

Verdict

Included ran a solid race once more at Worcester last time when second, although she has a big weight to carry here and might be seen to better effect when going over fences, while Western Sunrise travelled and jumped well in victory here three weeks ago and won't mind this drop in distance. It could be worth chancing ROSEMARY RUSSET, who showed some smart form in novice company for Harry Fry last season and could thrive in handicaps off a mark of 114 now back under Noel Fehily.

Verdict

LUCCA LADY has been far from disgraced faced with inadequate trips on each of her last 2 starts and, with this assignment looking much more suitable, she is fancied to make a bold bid to shed the maiden tag over timber. Western Sunrise, Midnight Glory and Included head up a shortlist of potential threats.

Point winner who improved over hurdles towards the end of last season, winning twice, albeit a modest level. May do better over fences. Has had wind surgery.

Verdict

MOVING IN STYLE won his last two over hurdles before a break and the point winner can improve further now over fences for Neil Mulholland. Unexposed under Rules, the seven-year-old has had a wind operation since he was last sighted and represents a yard which thrives with such types. The Flame did it well over course and distance last month and merits respect, while Ange Des Malberaux is 2-2 over fences and 3-4 overall since joining the Dan Skelton operation.

Verdict

HEYDOOR is a chaser on looks so it would come as no surprise if he were to leave behind his hurdling exploits at the first attempt in this sphere. Hillary View's jumping has halted his progress in recent weeks but he almost certainly remains capable of better. Ange des Malberaux has done well since joining Dan Skelton and ought to remain competitive.

33/1, fourth of 6 in bumper at Worcester (16f, good) on debut 123 days ago.

Verdict

Philip Hobbs and Harry Fry have dominated this bumper in the last four years, both winning it twice, and both look to have nice representatives this time around for powerful connections. Ninth Wave represents the former and merits respect as a point-to-point winner, but WINNINGSEVERYTHING cost Paul and Clare Rooney 80,000 euros last year and is a half-brother to four winners (including one in this discipline). Enrilo is related to some nice types on the Flat and should have the speed for this assignment.

Verdict

NINTH WAVE was snapped up for £40,000 by Trevor Hemmings following a point win in April and placed with Philip Hobbs, so it would come as no surprise were he up to the task. This looks an above-average contest though, with Winningseverything, Enrilo and Hold The Note interesting newcomers.
