Produced well to snap long losing run over this C&D in August. Back into his shell since and though he has gone well fresh in the past, others are more persuasive from 3 lb "wrong".

Verdict

Richard Guest's Ambitious Icarus often puts his best foot forward here at Colwick Park and the course and distance winner can go close again once again. Chip Or Pellet was last seen scoring by two lengths at Newcastle and is respected despite the 4lb rise while Show Palace is also considered, representing a rare Flat runner for Staffordshire handler Jennie Candlish. Doctor Parkes looks well treated with Milly Naseb claiming 7lb off Stuart Williams' charges back but the vote goes for the hat-trick seeking MAJOR VALENTINE who won well in the hands of jockey Ben Robinson at Catterick last time and another bold showing is possible.

Verdict

MAJOR VALENTINE responded well when cashing in on a reduced turf mark at Catterick 10 days ago and the hat-trick is a distinct possibility following a 3 lb rise. Show Palace and Flicka's Boy have both won first-time back in the past and market support for either would look significant.

Verdict

Snaffled was a 57,000-guinea purchase as a yearling and is an interesting debutant for David Brown with Ted Durcan booked for the ride while Choice Encounter is a half-brother to a five and six furlong two-year-old winner, Thammin, and could prove to be a chip off the old block on his racecourse debut for Michael Bell. Poignant could improve for his appearance at Leicester but Richard Fahey has his string in fine form and his two-year-olds are striking with regularity, so it is hard to ignore his SIMMY'S COPSHOP representing Middleham Park Racing Club.

Verdict

As ever, the market will help assess these, but CHOICE ENCOUNTER, Simmy's Copshop and Havana Grey are a trio of likely sorts on paper, preferred in that order.

Showed only inexperience on debut and will likely need more time.

Verdict

The former King George and Eclipse winner Nathaniel sees two of his progeny go head-to-head here, starting off their racing careers, with the John Gosden-trained Peterport in the colours of his fathers owners, The Rothchild's, taking on the Simon Crisford-trained Nathan, who can't be discounted with the trainer astutely placing his horses of late. However, preference is for Sir Michael Stoute's son of Sea The Stars, CRYSTAL OCEAN, who was narrowly defeated on debut as a two-year-old at Newbury over seven furlongs and should have more to come now an older horse. Godolphin are always respected here at a course they regularly have success and therefore it would be foolish to discount Forever Song who is also worth considering.

Verdict

FOREVER SONG, a half-brother to Whispering Gallery, really catches the eye on breeding so a chance is taken on him for a yard who have made an excellent start to the season. Peterport fits the same mould in that he could hardly make more appeal on pedigree, while Crystal Ocean is the clear pick of those with experience in what could turn out to be a maiden to keep an eye on as the season unfolds.

Verdict

KITSEY looked sure to improve when switched to handicap company in three maiden starts last season. Her best run came on her sole try at 1m when fifth to the subsequent Listed winner Coronet at Leicester and the drop back to 7f around Chester may have caught her out last time. Dangerous Ends would have a big chance if he can transfer his recent all-weather progression to the turf, while King's Coinage and Zamadance also make the shortlist.

Verdict

MAGIC BEANS has all the hallmarks of a potentially progressive handicapper this season having shaped with promise over inadequate trips last season for a stable that often takes the patient approach, so he's taken to make a winning return at the expense of fellow handicap debutant Kitsey, with African Grey well respected provided his temperament can be kept in check.

Recorded first win for over a year when winning at Chelmsford City in February, but has ruined his chance on last few runs by starting slowly. Chance if breaking better here.

Verdict

Acrux has one good run to his name, when a maiden winner at Wolverhampton last August, but his runs either side of that have been poor. If he brings his best form to the table then he would have a strong chance tonight. Zlatan was highly progressive towards the end of last season and he can continue on an upward curve, although the lack of a recent run is a worry. In contrast, ROLLER was successful at Redcar earlier in the weak and he can overcome his 6lb penalty for that success.

Verdict

This looks fiercely competitive, but ROLLER simply proved a cut above his rivals at Redcar on Monday, and with further progress likely, he is taken to follow up turned out under a penalty. Acrux has been gelded since last seen and better can be expected from him this season, while Wannabe Friends looks sure to be winning handicaps from this sort of mark too.
