Point winner but offered little when last of 7 in novice at Chepstow on recent hurdling debut.

Verdict

Just 2lb separates KAPDAD (120) and Jumping Jack (118) on official ratings and this three-runner maiden hurdle looks to be between them. Point winner Shanroe Smooch looks to have it all to do, but Gary Moore's son of Kapgarde is less exposed than Chris Gordon's inmate and he is expected to get off the mark. His sole bumper start at Wincanton resulted in defeat at the hands of the smart Acey Milan and he's bumped into some talented individuals since switching to hurdles, not least the Alan King's pair Nayati and Redicean, who finished sixth in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Verdict

Little to separate KAPDAD and Jumping Jack on ratings, but the former is less exposed so shades the vote on his return.

No real form of worth over fences but his runner-up effort over hurdles at Fontwell on his penultimate start does suggest he can still be competitive from a basement mark.

Verdict

KING CNUT finished a very creditable second over C&D on his chase debut last month and may not need to improve much off 2lb higher to land the spoils. He has clearly improved over the summer and for going chasing and connections have found him a very winnable heat. Mr Mulliner has a nice racing weight and boasts claims on his penultimate second over hurdles at Fontwell, while Britanio Bello looks best of the rest.

Verdict

KING CNUT made an encouraging start to his chase career when runner-up over C&D last month and this looks a good opportunity for him to go one better. Remember Forever wasn't at his best when last seen but is well treated if bouncing back after a break and he could be the one to give Chris Gordon's charge most to think about.

Modest maiden under both codes and readily passed over.

Modest maiden under both codes and readily passed over.

Verdict

KRISTAL HART seems to have improved for a change to front-running tactics having won her last two starts. She looked a fortunate winner on the first occasion at Stratford before following up at Warwick and the drop to 2m should prove no concern as forceful tactics can be used to make it a stamina test. Boychick could take a step forward from his recent effort at Worcester with this being his second outing after a wind operation, while Wenceslaus can be in the mix on his third at Bangor 11 days ago.

Verdict

WENCESLAUS has fallen to an attractive mark and could be ready to strike having hinted at a revival in cheekpieces at Bangor 11 days ago. Maratt and Kristal Hart are feared most.

Chaser on looks and surpassed hurdles form at the first attempt when landing 6-runner handicap at Fontwell 16 days ago. Was all out in the end and is up 5 lb, but he may have more to offer.

Verdict

Although CALL TO ORDER has won over 3m in the past, there is the argument that he is a better horse over intermediate distances and the drop to 2m4f looks ideal for Jonjo O'Neill's gelding. He ran well off this mark at Warwick over 3m1f behind Laurium and has shown his appreciation for decent ground over the summer months. Vivas returned from a five-month absence with a win at Fontwell and is respected off 5lb higher, while Knocknanuss has the potential to make a solid chaser having shown good promise over hurdles last season.

Verdict

Easy to be positive about all 3, and though KNOCKNANUSS takes on previous winners over fences in Vivas and Call To Order, he is a chaser on looks and given his point background, could easily attain useful status in this sphere, so he gets the vote.

Broke long-standing maiden tag in a 9-runner handicap hurdle at Sandown in March, but no surprise to see him end the season with a couple of lesser efforts. Others preferred.

Verdict

Bugsie Malone has been in cracking form, finishing no worse than second on his last five appearances, and he is likely to be in the shake-up again, but hat-trick seeking ROYAL HALL gets the vote in receipt of a stone. To add to his recent success over timber, Gary Moore's gelding has also been running well on the Flat and he holds rock solid claims, despite a 3lb rise for his Fontwell success in late August. Exitas is another in-form player to note.

Verdict

EXITAS arrives on the back of a win and second over fences and this could be the day he takes advantage of his lower hurdle mark. Bugsie Malone is another who turns up in good form and should go well again, while Royal Hall will be a big threat if his stamina holds up markedly in trip.

Found more for pressure than is often the case when second at Newton Abbot in July. Has failed to build on that since, but will be a player off this mark if stamina holds out.

Verdict

BETWEEN THE WATERS certainly wasn't winning out of turn at Fontwell, when comfortably on top at the line, and a 7lb rise might not be enough to anchor him if arriving in the same mood. River Of Intrigue is 1lb lower than when third on both starts so far this year and he should give another good account, while Apachee Prince warrants respect following placed efforts both in this sphere and over hurdles.

Verdict

With questions marks surrounding each member of the quartet for one reason or another, APACHEE PRINCE gets the nod. The 9-y-o clearly doesn't find winning easy, but he's the only one of these guaranteed to stay every yard of this trip and his current mark is a workable one. Diplomatico's standout effort at Newton Abbot during the summer was at around 2m and River of Intrigue's stamina is suspect.

Struggled sole previous attempt in a handicap, but that was in a stronger race at Kempton and off a 10 lb higher mark than this. Some fair form in novice company makes him of strong interest here.

Placed in back-to-back handicap hurdles at Fontwell in August/September. Latest effort not so good and his strike rate is pretty poor, but this 7-y-o enters calculations nonetheless.

Verdict

It's difficult to be too confident about any of these, but SEA'S ARIA posted a number of solid efforts before disappointing last time and this drop in class might help him bounce back to form. Inspireus makes only his second start in handicap company and looks capable of being competitive off a mark of 100, while Dowhatudodobest is the least exposed member of the line-up and warrants respect.

Verdict

INSPIREUS has shown enough in novice events to suggest that a race of this nature should be within his grasp. Mount Vesuvius will be a live danger if bouncing back, but he's not the most reliable of propositions and Sea's Aria may be a better option for forecast purposes.
