Verdict

BENGALI SPIRIT displayed inexperience when running second of three on his introduction at Musselburgh last month and while it's hard to know how strong that form is, he may be the answer with that experience under his belt. Arriba De Toda has enough speed in his pedigree to be worth a second look in the betting on his debut, while Brocklesby sixth Carey Street is respected but shaped as though needing a step up in trip on Town Moor.

Verdict

BENGALI SPIRIT's debut second came in a small field but the third has run reasonably well since and he's the percentage call with improvement on the cards. Carey Street was better than the result in the Brocklesby and is a likely big threat, while market support for Five Amarones would look significant given the way the Tom Dascombe 2-y-os have started the season.

Three wins from 13 runs last year, but took a few runs to find his form and suspicion he may need the run on return.

Verdict

DAWAALEEB had the third horse well behind when edging out a Newmarket raider at Newcastle last month and is taken to go in again. Les Eyre's charge was wearing a first-time visor on that occasion and the headgear is on again. Society Red should be sharper for a recent spin around Chelmsford, while both Frankster and Pioneering ended the last campaign with victory around here and make the shortlist.

Verdict

PIONEERING completed a hat-trick when landing a big-field event over C&D in October and is taken to extend his winning run on his return to action. The lightly raced and progressive Give It Some Teddy will be a danger if primed for his reappearance, while Dawaaleeb made a winning start for Les Eyre at Newcastle and looks on a workable mark now switching to handicaps.

Verdict

ATLETICO is proving very hard to win with, compromising his chances with an inability to break away on terms, as a string of silver-medal finishes on the all-weather illustrates. Roger Varian's gelding is, however, able to run off a rating 10lb below his all-weather mark and can gain an overdue success with Silvestre De Sousa taking over in the saddle. Zylan seeks a hat-trick after a brace on Southwell's Fibresand, but he is better on artificial surfaces and course-and-distance winner Poyle Vinnie, second at Chelmsford recently, appeals as the principal danger to the selection.

Verdict

Michael Dods runs a couple of progressive sorts here in DAKOTA GOLD and Holmeswood, with the former selected to take his form up another notch and land the spoils on reappearance. Atletico has been knocking on the door on AW and is much respected under Silvestre De Sousa, while the thriving Foolaad and well-handicapped Orion's Bow are others for the shortlist in a useful sprint.

Verdict

UPTOWN FUNK was coming with what looked like a winning run before tipping up at the last over hurdles at Musselburgh and is fancied to gain recompense now back on the level. Keith Dalgleish's gelding is potentially well-handicapped on the Flat and has the scope for further progress. Indian Red has been holding his form since the turn of the year on artificial surfaces and rates a live danger with Paul Mulrennan back in the saddle. American Life is proving expensive to follow over timber but should at least give his running now returned to the Flat.

Verdict

UPTOWN FUNK is well handicapped if able to transfer the sort of form he's shown over hurdles since joining this yard and it's worth taking a chance on his stamina holding out. Madam Lilibet is always respected in these events, while Becky The Thatcher was disappointing on the Flat last autumn but is another who is well treated based on the level of her hurdle form.

Mazameer filly. Dam 1m winner. Likely best watched on debut.

Verdict

Three Saints Bay holds sway on the formbook after some promising efforts in novice company last year. David O'Meara's charge has since been gelded and may be tough to stop if that has brought about further improvement. A chance, however, is taken on newcomer SHATHARAAT for Mark Johnston and Sheikh Hamdan. The Kodiac colt has plenty of dash in his pedigree as a half-brother to dual Pattern-race winner Nations Alexander, and can get off the mark at the first time of asking. Super D J was not knocked about when his chance had gone on his debut at Kempton and completes the shortlist.

Verdict

Those with experience don't set the bar that high and it might be worth siding with Mark Johnston newcomer SHATHARAAT, although the betting will obviously provide more clues. Super D J should be all the wiser with his debut behind him and may prove next best ahead of penalised previous winner Three Saints Bay.
