Lightly-raced maiden. 25/1, sixth of 9 in nursery at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 12 days ago.

Verdict

ROCK PARTY is best treated at these weights and looks to have a solid chance on her first start at plating level. Capitan James comes out top on official figures and a repeat of his third in handicap company at Musselburgh should see him go close, while the Michael Dods-trained Bandola is certainly no forlorn hope either.

Verdict

CAPITAN JAMES took a step back in the right direction when third in this headgear in a nursery at Musselburgh last week and is narrowly preferred to Rock Party.

Fair filly. Remains a maiden after 7 Flat runs. Last of 6 in handicap at York (10.2f, good to firm, 12/1) 77 days ago. Significantly back down in trip.

Verdict

FORWARD THINKER built on last year's promising introduction when a short-head second on her seasonal reappearance at Lingfield and, with further improvement on the cards, she could make it third-time lucky. Jurran looked very green on his debut at Newmarket and he can take much closer order on this easier track, while Final Go brings some solid 6f form to the table.

Verdict

FORWARD THINKER left his debut behind when almost making a winning return at Lingfield 2 weeks ago and this looks a good opportunity. Global Melody and Jurran both shaped with some promise on debut and can do better.

Thirteen runs since last win in 2017 but does arrive in form, chasing home International Man before second over 1m here 10 days ago. Up in trip.

Verdict

FAADHEL has impressively notched up a Kempton/Chester double and, with a further 4lb rise deemed lenient, the improving son of Maxios can round off the hat-trick. International Man certainly wasn't stopping over the extended 1m at York and shouldn't be inconvenienced by stepping up in trip, while Poet's Dawn and Humbolt Current also have place credentials. Tight Lines looks vulnerable.

Verdict

FAADHEL relished the step up to this trip when going in again at Chester last time and a further 4 lb rise doesn't look enough to prevent him completing the hat-trick with further progress on the cards. Humbolt Current was behind a couple of these at York last time but could still be the one to give Roger Varian's colt most to think about.

Twelve runs since last win in 2017. Bit below form eighth of 19 in handicap at York (6f, soft, 12/1) 15 days ago, not ideally placed.

Verdict

It might pay to side with NORMANDY BARRIERE, a past C&D scorer, who produced his best effort for some time when runner-up at Ascot latest and will benefit from Theodore Ladd's valuable 7lb claim. The Armed Man has won two of his last three starts, the latest coming here, and he is likely to be in the shake-up again, while Kenny The Captain and Highland Acclaim are just a couple more with claims in a fiercely competitive handicap.

Verdict

NORMANDY BARRIERE looked back to his very best when runner-up at Ascot 2 weeks ago and is sure to go well again off the same mark. Move In Time and The Amber Fort also enter calculations.

Verdict

ACRUX has winning C&D form in the book and commands respect on the back of some solid performances over 1m. Firmdecisions is creeping back down the ratings and is weighted to go well now 3lb higher than when scoring over this trip at Leicester in June. Others for the shortlist are grade-dropper Presidential and Ghayadh, who may emerge as the pick of the three-year-olds.

Verdict

KNOWING GLANCE proved to be a disappointment last time after such an impressive win at Carlisle on his return but is given another chance. Ghayadh and Acrux head the dangers.

Claims on his pair of runner-up efforts last month but only eighth of 9 in handicap at Ayr (8f, good) 12 days ago. Blinkers back on.

Verdict

Destroyer enjoyed the run of the race when last sighted over a mile at Newmarket and should give it his best shot on the front end, though narrow preference is instead for BROTHER MCGONAGALL, who was touched off by under a length over a mile at Ayr last time. A 1lb rise for that performance appears fair in view of the fact the winner has gone in again at Glorious Goodwood since. Hajjam, a 7f winner here in June, could play a supporting role.

Verdict

HAJJAM ran well in the International at Ascot last time and stands a good chance of resuming winning ways in these calmer waters. Brother McGonagall is enjoying a cracking summer and can give another good account of himself, while Horsted Keynes has found winning difficult in recent years but arrives in decent form.

Verdict

URBAN SPIRIT has improved steadily since stepping up in trip and went close to getting off the mark on his latest outing at Wetherby when second in June. He remains unexposed as a stayer and can finally gain his first success. So Near So Farhh lived up to her name when a close-up second at Beverley, when seeming to improve for the step up to 2m, and she has solid credentials along with Bill Cody.

Verdict

CALLIOPE caught the eye under a very inexperienced rider at Carlisle recently and is one to be interested in off the same mark. So Near So Farhh and Bill Cody are others to consider.

Verdict

THE KNOT IS TIED won for the first time at Catterick on Tuesday having improved on his last couple of starts for a step up in trip, combined with cheekpieces, and he can defy a 6lb penalty with possibly more to come. Artic Nel looks a solid threat having won on her most recent outing at Nottingham, while Ilikeyoualot and Miss Alfie Rose are two handicap debutants worthy of consideration with the pair likely to have improvement to come.

Verdict

THE KNOT IS TIED has progressed since stepped up in trip and fitted with cheekpieces and is taken to make light of a penalty for Tuesday's cosy Catterick success. Nottingham-winner Artic Nel rates an obvious threat, while Jan de Heem and Midnight Warrior both have solid course records.
