Verdict

Saisons D'or arguably sets the standard in this contest but, while he should be in the mix, it would not be the biggest of surprises to see something improve past him. It was not the strongest of Haydock maidens that WRENTHORPE finished second in on his debut but that performance did suggest that he can win a race of this nature. Nicklaus has yet to live up to his expensive price tag but it is far too soon to be writing him off.

Verdict

NICKLAUS did better with his debut under his belt without making the major leap expected when midfield at Kempton 3 weeks ago. Yet, he's in good hands and should find that aiding his development further so can be expected to go close back on turf. Enrolment had conditions as a possible excuse last time and is feared, ahead of Saisons D'or.

Thrice-raced maiden. 100/1, last of 13 in minor event at Chelmsford City (7f) 15 days ago.

Verdict

MONTAGUE has not quite lived up to the promise that he displayed earlier in the year but he did win a similar event to this at Chelmsford last week. One For June was back in third on that occasion and may struggle to reverse that form, although some more place money is not out of the question for the daughter of Arcano. Panophobia's best efforts in nursery company give him a chance down in claiming company for the first time today.

Verdict

PANOPHOBIA got stuck in the mud at Ripon recently, but prior to that he'd looked a consistent and likeable juvenile and this appears his big chance to get off the mark up against a few with questions to answer. One For June is interesting if she can build on her latest effort and Montague is an obvious player having landed a similar event recently.

Verdict

Plenty of these have valid claims but the preference is for STANARLEY PIC, based on his win over C&D back in August from just 6lb lower in the ratings. His course record has been boosted subsequently with a neck second-placed finish over this trip last month. Deep Challenger and Waiting For Richie have to be respected following recent all-weather victories, while So Celebre is another who should be included on the shortlist.

Verdict

SO CELEBRE has gone close on the AW off this mark on his last 2 starts, including at Lingfield on Wednesday, suggesting his turn is near. Mr Globetrotter is potentially on a handy mark if responding positively to headgear, while last-time-out winners Deep Challenger and Waiting For Richie also need considering.

Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 11 in minor event at Thirsk (7f, good to soft, 50/1) on debut 84 days ago. Should progress moving forward particularly as her stamina is drawn out.

Verdict

STEPHENSONS ROCKET is clearly the one to beat following a debut effort at Sandown which was full of promise. The son of Teofilo was very keen early on that day and he was green in the latter stages but despite that, he still stayed on to finish second to a rival who had already had the benefit of a previous run. Se You was out of his depth in a sales race last time out but his previous form gives him a place chance today. Hazarfan clearly needed the experience at Newmarket on debut and he could take a significant step forward this afternoon.

Verdict

STEPHENSONS ROCKET shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up on debut at Sandown 5 weeks ago, an effort all the more encouraging given his inexperience was plain to see. He looks sure to improve and can make it second time lucky. Se You will find this much more manageable than his latest assignment and is feared, ahead of Hazarfan.

Verdict

ESSENTIAL may well have needed the outing here four weeks ago when second after a six month absence and first-time cheekpieces coupled with a step up in distance could see him in a better light. The booking of Jamie Spencer suggests that a fair effort is expected, and the pair can take advantage of a fair handicap mark. Van Velde got the better of the selection last time but may not be able to confirm the form, while the in-form Rosy Ryan is another name to note.

Verdict

SHOWDANCE KID has been in fine form since joining Neville Bycroft and might be up to getting his head back in front if blinkers see him pull out a bit more. Recent 6f course maiden winner Van Velde is much respected with the step up to 7f expected to be in his favour now handicapping, while Rosy Ryan has had a good spell this year and should figure again with Seamus Cronin taking 7 lb off.

Verdict

Tim Easterby has a strong hand here with three runners, and perhaps the most interesting of them is VIVE LA DIFFERENCE. The three-year-old made a pleasing start to life in the UK after a gelding operation and five month absence at Catterick last time, finishing second in a similar sort of contest. The former Andre Fabre-trained son of Holy Roman Emperor should have come on for that, and could account for Envisaging, who drops in class for James Fanshawe, and Dandys Denouement, who has shown enough ability to land a contest of this nature in his last couple of starts.

Verdict

A conundrum for punters as ENVISAGING sets a clear standard but his temperament is under suspicion having failed to get the job done on his last 3 starts. Dandys Denouement, Give It Some Teddy and Vive La Difference are others to consider.
