Lightly-raced maiden. Below form 7¾ lengths fourth of 11 to Knockabout Queen in seller (12/1) at Windsor (6f, good to firm) 4 days ago. May be the one to follow that rival home here.

Verdict

KNOCKABOUT QUEEN was an easy winner of a Windsor seller on Monday and she should take plenty of beating once again this afternoon. Go Annie Go ran well enough in two similar races to this in May to suggest that she should be in the mix, while Red Handed and Lady Lavinia are others who merit consideration in what is a moderate contest.

Verdict

KNOCKABOUT QUEEN did the job well when dropped to this grade at Windsor on Monday and she should have little trouble following up under a penalty. Red Handed was fourth behind the selection at Windsor and is preferred to Lady Lavinia for forecast purposes.

Verdict

SHOWROOM created a very good impression when making a winning debut at Goodwood last September and he stands out based on that form, despite having to carry a 7lb penalty. Velvet Vision confirmed the promise she displayed on debut at Newcastle in February by winning at the same venue a few weeks later and she could prove to be the main threat to the selection. Ice Pyramid makes plenty of appeal on paper and it will be interesting to see how he goes in the market.

Verdict

SHOWROOM held an entry in the Royal Lodge at the time of his winning debut at Goodwood in September, which suggests that he's held in high regard. The Motivator colt wasn't seen out again as a 2-y-o but possesses considerable potential and, unless newcomer Ice Pyramid is well above average, he can take this on the way to better things. Velvet Vision is a promising type and is best of the rest.

Good second of 7 in handicap (3/1) at Yarmouth (10.1f, good to firm) 8 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time and she's certainly not without hope.

Verdict

AKVAVERA posted a career-best effort when runner-up to the well-handicapped Desert Diamond at York over this trip last time and she is more than capable of defying a 2lb rise in the handicap. Angelina D'Or has been fairly consistent throughout 2018 and should be on the scene once again, while Admired can benefit for both the step up to 1m2f and for first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

The vote goes to VERA DRAKE, who was doing her best work at the finish when second to a progressive type at Yarmouth, an effort which strongly suggested that this step up in trip would prove beneficial. Chantresse, also runner-up at that Norfolk venue last time, may emerge as the main danger, though Angelina d'Or and Akvavera also need considering.

Last of 8 in handicap at Haydock (10.2f, firm, 7/1) 14 days ago. Back down in trip and looks vulnerable from a win point of view.

Verdict

MICHELE STROGOFF has hit the frame on each of his last four outings for Mick Appleby around 1m to 1m2f. He's evidently in good heart for his new stable and could benefit from the refitting of cheekpieces this afternoon (left off for those aforementioned runs). Dawaaleeb had looked progressive for Les Eyre before a modest Ripon effort, while Kit Marlowe may have needed the run last time and would go well if back to anything like the best of his two-year-old form.

Verdict

HELOVAPLAN perhaps found the race coming too soon at Ayr and is fancied to bounce back after creating a good impression when winning at Thirsk. Michele Strogoff and Mon Beau Visage are the dangers.

Verdict

The consistent CHRISTMAS NIGHT has made the frame in both starts since his victory at Beverley in May and he can return to winning ways this afternoon. Paparazzi is another whose recent form offers plenty of hope regarding his chances, while similar comments also apply to Erastus. Others to note are Whinmoor, Archie Perkins and Magic Mark.

Verdict

WHINMOOR had plenty in hand when scoring at Carlisle a couple of weeks ago and is selected to make light of an 8 lb rise under Lewis Edmunds. Real Estate shaped nicely when fourth on his handicap debut/reappearance and is likely to progress, while Paparazzi has made an encouraging start for Tracy Waggott and is likely to be on the premises again.

Verdict

ABUSHAMAH showed plenty of bravery when scoring over course and distance last time and despite the 4lb rise for that victory, his battling tendencies can see him at the forefront of proceedings once again. Pepys has won two of his last four and needs to be respected from the same mark he was a handy second off last time, while Cryptonite and Fieldsman are others who have threatened of late.

Verdict

ABUSHAMAH notched his third C&D victory last month and, still on a good mark despite going up 4 lb for that, he has a strong chance of adding to his tally. Pepys has improved this season and looks sure to make another bold bid, while Cryptonite is fairly consistent and should also be in the thick of things.

33/1, eighth of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 25 days ago. 6 lb 'wrong' at the weights.

Verdict

Bryan Smart's WRENTHORPE wears cheekpieces for the first time as he looks to go one better than his second here over an extra furlong last time. He is fancied now back down to the minimum trip. Richard Fahey's Carlisle second Stewardess should keep him honest and has to be on the shorlist, alongside Andys Girl who was second at Catterick and races here off the same mark.

Verdict

This could be the day when STEWARDESS belatedly opens her account. She was one-paced at the business end when runner-up at Carlisle a fortnight ago but that was nevertheless a decent effort and a reproduction of that may well suffice here. Raffle King is also still seeking a first career win but has enough form in the book to be a a major player in this handicap. Palmer needs considering, too.
