Verdict

This could be a two-horse race between Essenza and THE GREAT HEIR. The former produced a rock-solid debut performance to finish second at Ripon earlier this month, but KEvin Ryan's charge has already shown he is improving when building on his Thirsk debut to finish second at Beverley latest. Arthur's Spirit has a win to his name, but struggled under the same penalty as today'sat Chester last time.

Verdict

THE GREAT HEIR was clear with a potentially useful sort at Beverley last time and is taken to go one better now. Richard Fahey's Essenza made a sound start to her career when second at Ripon and can give the selection most to do ahead of sole previous winner in the line-up Arthur's Spirit.

Verdict

EPONINA has been kept to the all-weather so far this season, but she does have form on turf and was beaten less than a length at Southwell last time. In a race short of in-form horses, she gets the vote. Acrux has been running respectably in this sort of grade and has claims, though Danny Tudhope opts to ride David O'Meara's other runner in the race, Warrior's Spirit.

Verdict

EPONINA has a much more consistent profile than a lot of these and might be able to shed her maiden status dropped to a seller for the first time. Warrior's Spirit has yet to fire for David O'Meara but should find life easier at plating level and may prove next best ahead of Beauden Barrett.

£2,000 Swiss Spirit filly. Dam of little account. Wrenthorpe the stable's main hope unless the betting suggests otherwise.

Verdict

Saisons D'Or went close at Newcastle last time, but the suspicion is that he saves his best for that surface, so WRENTHORPE gets the vote. Bryan Smart's charge has run well on both previous visits to this track and ran well enough at Beverley last time to suggest the handicapper may have been wrong to drop him 1lb. Makanah showed up well enough in some decent races last year, but was readily brushed aside on his return at Wolverhampton last month.

Verdict

WRENTHORPE made a solid enough return to action when fourth in a Beverley handicap 3 weeks ago and even a repeat of that form could be enough to see him get off the mark. Saisons d'Or rates an obvious danger on the back of his improved reappearance second on AW, while Makanah is also respected for the Julie Camacho/Paul Mulrennan combination.

Creditable second of 6 in handicap (9/4) at Carlisle (5f, good to firm) 7 days ago. Another to consider.

Verdict

Miss Dd has been edging closer to vistory this season, following up a third-placed effort at Newcastle with second at Carlisle last time. Palmer kept going close last season and could be back to that sort of form now he's had two runs this term, but preference is for TIGER LYON, who returned from five months off to get within a neck of success at Beverley earlier this month.

Verdict

MACHREE very much left the impression she needed the run on her Nottingham reappearance last month and is well worth another chance to show she's a sprinter on the up. Angel Force ran well in a competitive heat at York last time and rates an obvious threat under the champion jockey. Miss Dd and Tiger Lyon are others who arrive on the back of good runs last time.

Had a productive 2017, winning 3 times over 1m. Well held in the Victoria Cup at Ascot on completed start this year but step back up in trip now in favour.

Verdict

Leader's Legacy made light of an 11-month absence to win nicely at Wolverhampton and is worth a try at this trip, while Restorer was another to make a successful reappearance when landing the spoils at Chester last time. What's The Story stayed on well in the closing stages over a mile at Wetherby so could flourish with the extra two furlongs here, but ABAREEQ looks the one to beat after meeting trouble in running but still blitzing his rivals in a decent event at Newmarket last time.

Verdict

A really strong renewal. WHAT'S THE STORY looked ready for a step up to 1¼m when doing some good work at the finish over 1m at Wetherby last time and might be worth siding with, but there are plenty of possible dangers, headed by Leader's Legacy, who was impressive on his return to action. Restorer and Titus are others with sound claims.

Verdict

SCOTTISH SUMMIT was hugely impressive when running out a convincing winner at Nottingham last time and an 8lb rise might still not be enough to derail him here. X Rated is a model of consistency and could be there or thereabouts again, while Fleetfoot Jack has shown plenty of promise over a mile of late but his last effort over 10 furlongs was poor.

Verdict

This looks open. FLEETFOOT JACK has started the season with 2 good efforts and gets a tentative vote for the David O'Meara team. Armandihan should be sharper with his York reappearance under his belt and is expected to figure, while Scottish Summit is also respected on the back of his comfortable Nottingham success.

Verdict

SUNRIZE made a decent fist of things on his reappearance and handicap debut at Doncaster, shaping as though the step up to this trip would suit too. Jan De Heem went close over track and trip last season and has claims if fully wound up for his return to action, while Hussar Ballad has claims if transferring the best of his all-weather form on the turf.

Verdict

SUNRIZE stands out as a lightly raced and progressive sort in this line-up and can build on an encouraging handicap debut/reappearance at Doncaster. Peak fitness does have to be taken on trust with the returning Midnight Warrior and Jan de Heem but they both have good records here and head the dangers.
