Largely below form under various codes upon returning to action this winter, running no sort of race on fibresand at Southwell last time. Others make greater appeal.

Verdict

AARON LAD let down favourite backers on his trip to Catterick last time but will surely be winning a handicap soon and today could be time to catch Dr Richard Newland's seven-year-old. Brian Hughes is a positive booking in the saddle and the gelding should have too much for course and distance winner and nearest rival Danceintothelight, who is still 1lb higher than when landing that track success. Valgor Du Ronceray has a monster weight to carry, so it may be best to look towards Philip Kirby's Rock Of Leon when considering the other options.

Verdict

A last flight mistake stopped AARON LAD making more of a fist of things when runner-up at Catterick 10 days ago, yet his overall performance highlighted he's well up to winning races in this sphere and he can go one place better now. Judge Earle and Nicely Indeed are next best.

Verdict

WOOD PIGEON isn't the best jumper in the field, but off this mark he should be capable of adding to his Fakenham win two starts ago. He has a jockey upgrade in the form of Brian Hughes, who is a master at getting horses jumping and he is sure to play a leading role with a clear round. Steps And Stairs finished second at Bangor when last seen and makes his first start for Henry Oliver after over a year off the track, while course and distance winner Cooper's Friend and track regular Captain Sharpe are others worthy of consideration.

Verdict

WOOD PIGEON is worth another chance to follow up his Fakenham win having got no further than the first at Towcester next time. Steps And Stairs has been off the track for a while but can go well fresh so needs keeping an eye on starting out for a new yard.

Fair maiden on the Flat for Ed Dunlop who showed much-improved form in this sphere when runner-up in juvenile at Wetherby (16f, heavy) last month, though very much had the run of the race.

Verdict

Bal De Rio, who wears first-time blinkers, has placed in each of his four starts over hurdles thus far and is likely to be in the shake-up again, but BULKOV edges the vote. The form of his recent runner-up efforts both here and at Ayr looks slightly stronger and Becky Smith's valuable 7lb claim leaves them competing off the same weight. Titan narrowly lost out at Wetherby and warrants respect, while hurdling newcomers Phantom Isle and Lucky Lucarno are others to keep an eye on.

Verdict

BAL DE RIO and Bulkov look the pair to concentrate on here. The former remains with potential in this sphere given his Flat exploits, and he edges the vote.

Benefited from a step back up in trip when winning 9-runner handicap at Catterick (19.2f) in January. Shaped as if still in good form when third at Ayr latest, but needs to find a bit more progress.

Verdict

Cash Again has to be respected following his comfortable 2m3f course success, but the runner-up has subsequently let that form down and conceding 12lb to other last-time-out scorer INSTANT REPLAY is a big enough ask. Brian Ellison's charge did the job nicely on his chase debut over a couple of furlongs shorter here and a 4lb rise looks fair enough with any amount of improvement to come. Romulus Du Donjon is a dual hurdles scorer and, like many of the stable's runners before him, could potentially improve for this switch to fences.

Verdict

INSTANT REPLAY appeals as the type to go on progressing in this sphere, so is taken to follow up. Cash Again still has time on his side, and may yet do better, while Kilronan Castle could have benefited from a 2-month break.

Verdict

DELEGATE was an impressive winner of a novice chase at Musselburgh eight days ago, on his first start since a wind operation, and his new mark over fences is 141. The three-times hurdles winner looks to exploit a 14lb lower rating over the smaller obstacles here and he appears to be the one to beat. Craig Star has been in good form of late and has to be respected and Ninepointsixthree is another to consider.

Verdict

DELEGATE, having had a wind operation, proved better than ever when adding to his chase tally at Musselburgh recently and he makes plenty of appeal operating from this lower hurdles mark. Craig Star is feared most for Donald McCain ahead of Ninepointsixthree.

C&D winner back in the day but looks of little account now.

Verdict

DERRYNANE was beaten at odds-on when second at Catterick earlier in the month but he is better judged on his win at the track the time before which came at the minimum distance. The drop back in trip will suit him here and, despite being 11lb higher than that success two starts back, this doesn't look the strongest of contests on paper. Discoverie was pulled up here over fences last time but he is respected being 5lb lower over hurdles than his most recent effort in this sphere, while Amadoue is capable of better than what he has shown so far.

Verdict

SIMPLY BUSINESS remains with potential and could be worth chancing now fitted with a tongue tie. Derrynane has a big shout off his revised mark, while Dark And Dangerous can never be dismissed around here and is back on his last successful mark.

C&D winner of little account nowadays.

Verdict

ROXYFET is in good heart at present having finished in the frame on his last four starts, which includes a win over C&D on Boxing Day two starts ago, and there was no disgrace in finishing second to Sky Full Of Stars at Ayr at the start of January. He is 1lb higher after that and may yet have more to offer. Money For Nothing has been knocking on the door recently and should post another solid effort, while Black Kettle can be forgiven his latest effort having stopped quickly after a race-ending error three out at Catterick.

Verdict

BLACK KETTLE looks up to winning races off his current mark and gets the vote in a trappy event. Roxyfet has plenty of winning form here to his name and is in good heart. Money For Nothing ran well at Plumpton last time and is respected.
