Made a winning start in handicaps at Kempton in September. Back to that sort of level when placed in sellers (including over C&D) last 2 starts but more required in this company.

Verdict

SAMASANA is improving rapidly through the ranks at present and the two-time C&D scorer is expected to go in again despite being forced to carry a 6lb penalty for her most recent success. Her performance here last week suggested she is still some way ahead of the handicapper and this slight step up in class shouldn't stop her from landing the four-timer. Chatterati looks the main threat for the in-form Mark Johnston, while Availed Speaker shouldn't be overlooked returning to this surface.

Verdict

Samasana is thriving at the moment and can go in again. Chatterati was second on her debut for Mark Johnston and could be the one to chase her home.

Failed to win during a busy 2-y-o campaign, and unlikely to be shedding maiden tag from these terms.

Verdict

The first-time blinkers may bring about an improvement in Bengaline but FIRST BID is preferred for James Given. The son of Kyllachy continues to show his best form, albeit in defeat, and this drop into claiming company is taken to bring about a return to winning ways. He may also receive a timely form boost from Samasana in the opener on this card but keep a close eye on the C&D winners Flying Pockets and Point At Issue.

Verdict

First Bid can boast some solid AW handicap form so must command respect in this company, but Flying Pickets is taken to get back on track fitted with a new headgear combination.

Won 5f Lingfield maiden in April and highly tried after. Progress also rather stalled in handicaps, so combination of headgear and a new surface needs to evoke some improvement.

Verdict

BELLA OPHELIA carries a 6lb penalty for scoring over track and trip last time out, when making it two wins on the bounce with a cosy success over the reopposing Reve De Jour, and she can complete the hat-trick this afternoon. Hughie Morrison has few peers at this venue and Jimmy Fortune usually makes his visits to the Nottingham track pay. Reve Du Jour ought to run well again with Code Six making up the shortlist.

Verdict

Bella Ophelia was always holding Reve du Jour when making a successful handicap debut here recently and is a good bet to follow up. Code Six is a danger if taking to the surface.

Verdict

LOOK AT ME NOW is beginning to prove expensive to follow after seven career starts but in what looks a weak maiden, he rates the one to beat now dropped back to 5f. How Sweet It Is boasts good form in handicaps and looks the most likely to cause the selection a problem, while of the others, Skystream ran well enough when last sighted at Wolverhampton.

Verdict

Look At Me Now and How Sweet It Is set the standard on form and make the most appeal, the latter narrowly preferred.

Verdict

BIG CREEK is interesting on the back of a solid effort at Kempton over this trip in January (second) and, up just 1lb for that run, Jeremy Noseda's charge looks weighted to get off the mark here under Jimmy Fortune. The relatively unexposed Son Vida represents Mark Johnston and the all-weather champion jockey-chasing Joe Fanning and, now up in trip off this 2lb lower mark, he must also enter calculations. The Lock Master completes the shortlist.

Verdict

Big Creek has dropped to a handy mark now and the recent signs have been much more encouraging. He can return to winning ways at the main expense of Tricksofthetrade and The Lock Master.

Useful form he showed at 2 yrs now a distant memory, but all the rage prior to a lifeless effort over C&D on second of 2 starts last year. Fared no better here last month and risky at present.

Verdict

Aces Of Spices is expected to attract plenty of support in the market for this handicap contest but JOE LE TAXI is down to a very attractive mark of 61 and is given the green light. He netted off an 11lb higher mark over this trip at Wolverhampton last March and, if back to anything like that form, he should prove tough to beat. Prince Of Vasa also warrants close consideration.

Verdict

Prince of Vasa isn't totally straightforward but he's in good form and is taken to get the better of Ace Of Spies and Gracie's Gift.

Verdict

COLOUR GUARD is tough to oppose in the finale for Mark Johnston as his son of Shamardal is given another chance off this mark of 75 in what looks a more realistic assignment. He caught the eye when shedding his maiden tag over the 7f here at the beginning of last month and is open to plenty of improvement. Minortransgression boasts C&D winning form and looks the most likely to cause the selection problems but the remainder may be forced to settle for supporting roles, Sir George appealing most of those.

Verdict

Colour Guard is open to improvement after just 2 starts, and is taken to beat the returning Sir George and Minortransgression.
