Cheekpieces on for 1st time, won 9-runner handicap at this course (12.1f, 11/4) 8 days ago, very slowly away. Escapes a penalty and should prove hard to beat.

Verdict

DI'S GIFT appeared to benefit from first-time cheekpieces (worn again) when running away with an apprentice handicap over 1m4f here recently and, lining up off the same mark of 57, he can complete the double. Galileo's Spear was only two lengths behind the selection on his latest outing and could potentially improve for a first-time visor, while Mystikana also merits consideration following a couple of bronze-medal finishes.

Verdict

Equipped with first-time cheekpieces, DI'S GIFT was well on top at the finish when resuming winning ways here last week. Assuming the headgear works equally well second time round, he should prove a tough nut to crack off the same mark. Mystikana is marginally preferred to Katie Gale for forecast purposes.

3-time C&D winner. Won 6-runner seller at this C&D (8/1) 13 days ago, responding well.

Verdict

Michael Appleby has two solid chances with Epitaph, who seldom runs a bad race at this venue, and recent C&D selling winner The Lock Master, while Busy Street warrants respect despite the 198-day absence. The vote, however, goes to ACKER BILK, who has done little wrong in three starts so far this year, is least exposed with only seven runs under his belt and could potentially improve for the application of first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

Runner-up in this race 12 months ago, BUSY STREET is taken to go one better this time round. His form figures here read 1222 and he has gone well fresh in the past, so a 198-day absence is of little concern. Michael Appleby's representatives Epitaph and The Lock Master both boast good records on this surface, too, and will ensure that the selection doesn't have things all is his own way.

Verdict

CROSSE FIRE has notched up eight course victories already and, if recent efforts are anything to go by, there should be plenty more to come. He shades the verdict ahead of Treaty Of Rome, who has gone unpunished for his close-up third over 7f here last time, and John Mackie's Kings Academy. The betting market could prove a good guide to his chances following a 177-day break.

Verdict

TREATY OF ROME was strong at the finish when third over 7f here last month, but dropping back in trip will not be an issue. Indeed, 2 of his 3 career wins have been registered over C&D and, with Cross Fire and Classic Pursuit likely to ensure that there is no hanging about, Derek Shaw's charge may well deliver a telling late blow. Classic Pursuit is feared most ahead of Amazing Grazing.

Verdict

MISTER MUSIC has been a revelation since switching to the Fibresand having won his last three starts at the track and the son of Singspiel could potentially have more to offer. Holiday Magic has shown his best recent form at the track with two second-placed finishes in 2018 to his name, while Donjuan Triumphant is an interesting contender on his first outing at the course.

Verdict

A clash of course regulars HOLIDAY MAGIC, Mister Music and Hammer Gun with fibresand debutants Love Dreams, Donjun Triumphant and Mutawathea (representing successful yards). Separating them isn't easy, but the first-named runner bumped into a thriving sort over C&D last week, so he gets the vote.

Verdict

LINE HOUSE found a significant drop in grade to her liking having struggled on the Dirt at Meydan when landing a novice contest in convincing style last Wednesday and, providing she handles the quick turnaround, can go in again. Silchester was beaten at odds-on here when dropped down to 7f last month but can bounce back to form stepping back up to a mile, while Love Rat looks best of the remainder.

Verdict

SILCHESTER sets a high standard and should prove hard to beat with the return to this trip in his favour. Line House came back to form when winning here in good style last week and is feared most.

Verdict

GRANDFATHER TOM followed up his back-to-back Polytrack victories at Lingfield when striking on the Tapeta at Newcastle last time and if he can perform to a similar level on his Fibresand bow, a four-timer looks to be on the cards. Samovar is penalised for scoring by a neck over C&D latest but, along with Gift In Time, he commands respect with proven form on the surface. Joegogo won over this trip at Wolverhampton last month before turning in a wayward effort over 6f at Lingfield latest.

Verdict

All 4 of these like to get on with things, but GRANDFATHER TOM a winner of each of his last 3 starts retains the greater potential of the quartet moving forward and he can complete the 4-timer. The return to fibresand may help Gift In Time and he can fill the forecast spot.

Verdict

Political Slot placed over C&D off 1lb higher last month, an effort which probably sets the form standard here, though there is plenty of untapped potential in the field. GRAFFITISTA is a likely improver under Rossa Ryan now fitted with a first-time visor, while the step up to 1m could also feasibly spark immediate improvement. Golden Guide makes some appeal on her Thirsk fourth on debut and could also figure if returning to that level of form.

Verdict

GRAFFITISTA was well held on her handicap debut at Kempton back in September, but she’s been given a break since and may do better now upped in trip. Political Shot has shown enough to suggest she can win a race such as this, while Golden Guide is another to consider.
