No worthwhile form and set for another struggle from miles out of the weights.

Verdict

Laura Morgan's string have improved their form recently and ULIS DE VASSY can be forgiven his performance at Uttoxeter on heavy ground with him not appearing to handle it on that occasion. He won the time before over C&D on the same ground and the handicapper was kind enough to drop him 4lb for that last effort, which makes him look feasibly handicapped here. Royal Act would have claims on his second to Le Rocher despite the fact he was massively flattered to get so close to that rival, while Weyburn is capable of going close in first-time cheekpieces.

Verdict

An unconvincing quintet, but TODAY PLEASE is better over the larger obstacles, so it would come as no surprise were he to leave behind his recent hurdles form and outclass these. Weyburn has gained both career wins at this venue and is second choice given Ulis de Vassy isn't one to trust.

Verdict

WOOD PIGEON finished second at Sedgefield on his latest start when a beaten-favourite but he is reunited with Richard Johnson who struck up a good rapport with the gelding when they teamed up to win at Fakenham three starts ago. Normandy King can bounce back after a disappointing effort when last seen at Towcester just before Christmas, while Red Danaher could return to form now back over the larger obstacles.

Verdict

WOOD PIGEON was quickly back on track with a running-on second at Sedgefield on Thursday and is fancied to give the weight away up against mostly unconvincing rivals. Normandy King rates a big threat if his latest run can be forgiven.

Verdict

BATTALION has won three 1m2f Listed races on the level so appears a fascinating contender now making his hurdles debut under Richard Johnson. Jamie Osborne appears to have found a suitable opening for his eight-year-old, who may be given most to think about by recent Hereford maiden winner Royale Zanzibar. George Gently, placed over timber in France, is worth a market check on his belated return, while Contre Tous, a dual winner over fences last year, is also worthy of shortlist inclusion.

Verdict

The key runner here is smart Flat performer BATTALION. It might be a bit late in the day to be starting out in this sphere but he's reportedly being aimed at the Cheltenham Festival which suggests he's schooled well at home. George Gently showed plenty on his debut in September 2016 and is feared most ahead of Contre Tous and Royale Zanzibar.

Verdict

Kansas City Chief won easily at Doncaster on his penultimate start before finding one too good at odds-on earlier this month when attempting a quick-fire double for connections. A further 7lb rise doesn't make life easy, though, and this could be the day for SAM RED to strike. Pulled up on heavy ground last time, the seven-year-old drops in class and goes up in trip on this better surface and may well be able to make his presence felt. Sun Cloud could bounce back, while Rocky's Treasure is another to note.

Verdict

KANSAS CITY CHIEF lost little in defeat when runner-up under a penalty at Catterick earlier this month, and he ought to make another bold bid. A Vos Gardes would be dangerous on his best efforts returning to this sphere, while Jeannot de Nonant is in with an each-way shout if building on his stable debut.

Hurdles winner in spring 2016 for Gary Moore but little impact since, often pulling too hard.

Verdict

HURRICANE RITA was a bit disappointing at Fakenham last time out but she is the one to beat based on her previous victory at the same venue. Indian Reel is an obvious threat following his success in a claiming hurdle at Leicester at the end of last month. Hollywood All Star finished in front of the selection last time out but he is not the most reliable of geldings and may struggle to confirm that form today.

Verdict

A weak-looking race and INDIAN REEL should be able to follow up last month's Leicester win if the tongue strap works as well a second time. Hurricane Rita is feared most ahead of Hollywood All Star.

No form first 10 starts, so surprise she almost caused a shock over further here (25.6f) 3 weeks ago, getting upsides between last 2 but ultimately outbattled. Needs to back that up now.

Verdict

A further step up in trip can see ABBEY STREET improve on his second last time and he remains with potential despite disappointing up to this point under Rules. A second place in a point behind the talented Kilbricken Storm shows just what he is capable of and today's distance could see him at his best. Frosty Dawn is lurking dangerously in the weights having surprised when second here over slightly further last time and that course form has to be respected, while a clean round for Tara Mac would bring her into calculations.

Verdict

This looks wide open, so a chance is taken on the veteran CRUISING BYE. He ran well on 2 of his last 3 starts for Gary Hanmer, and having rejoined a yard quite adept at freshening one up, he could well represent a spot of value. Asking Questions, Abbey Street and Alpha Indi are others to consider.
