Fair on Flat in France (stays 12.5f) successful 3 times in 2017, including when last seen in October. Receives a handy weight allowance on yard/hurdles bow, so worth a precautionary market check.

Verdict

THE RUSSIAN DOYEN was thrown in at the deep end when finishing last behind Summerville Boy in the Tolworth at Sandown but he is clearly a lot better than that form showed and he arrives here with his yard operating in much better form. He has to defy a 6lb penalty due to his Exeter success but looks capable of doing so. Esprit De Somoza picked up the pieces in the Chatteris Fen at Huntingdon when getting the better of Gumball but needs to prove that effort wasn't a fluke, while Sea Of Mystery ran to a fair level on the Flat as a three-year-old and looks a decent recruit to hurdling for Dan Skelton.

Verdict

ESPRIT DE SOMOZA was all the better for his debut and created a good impression when opening his account at Huntingdon last month and, with further progress a distinct possibility, he can follow up. The Russian Doyen found the going too tough in the Tolworth last time but will find this much easier, while Sea of Mystery and The Groovy Hoovy are also worth a second look.

Well held in Newton Abbot bumper in October and similar story in trio of outings over hurdles since. She'll have more chance in handicaps. Had wind operation since latest outing.

Verdict

CHILLI FILLI appreciated the step back up in trip when landing the spoils at Ludlow on her latest start just before Christmas and, despite dropping back down a couple of furlongs, she can double up under a penalty for the Henry Daly team. Big Robin was a faller on her hurdles debut at Ludlow last March but is capable of better and has had a wind operation since that effort, while Longhousesignora was fourth on her Rules debut at Uttoxeter and can improve from that effort.

Verdict

OSCAR ROSE has only made small advances over hurdles so far, but steady steps make way for bigger ones in time, and its worth recalling she got better as her bumper season wore on, as such she's open to plenty more improvement. Chilli Filli is likeable and should progress further, while it will be interesting to see how Big Robin fares on her first start back since having a wind operation.

Two-time winner in November but handicapper had his say since and finished rather tamely at Wincanton last time.

Verdict

SPEEDALONG took a big step forward from his chasing debut at Huntingdon when winning at Wincanton last month where he got the better of Behind Time. That form was given a boost with Harry Fry's gelding running well at Ffos Las on Sunday and he looks open to further improvement on his third start over the larger obstacles. Muffins For Tea should appreciate the return to handicap company having run below par behind Report To Base at Hereford last month, while The Kings Writ has been in consistent form and will appreciate the drop down a couple of furlongs.

Verdict

THE KINGS WRIT shaped well on his second start over fences last month, travelling and jumping well until undone by a stumble 2 out. He remains with potential as a chaser and is fancied to open his account here. Hey Bill and Speedalong may be the principal dangers.

Won last 3 starts on the Flat but hasn't been at the top of his game in this sphere form some time.

Verdict

Paul Nicholls has won this race twice in the last four years with claiming riders and it is noteworthy to see Alexander Thorne on COILLTE LASS here for the master handler. The seven-year-old has been off the boil this season, though she did run respectably in Grade 2 company twice last season and has first-time cheekpieces today now dropped in trip. Unison ran well in graded company behind The New One last month before winning over course and distance earlier this month, while Our Merlin has been running creditably all winter and deserves respect.

Verdict

A good-quality handicap with BLACK MISCHIEF the selection back at 2m with a tongue tie likely to help his finishing effort. Our Merlin has been a revelation this season and is feared most, though Unison is clearly a major threat at this level.

Won 9-runner handicap chase at Towcester (19.8f, soft) but not in same form next time and 3 lb out of the handicap here.

Verdict

This looks to be a nice opening for CANICALLYOUBACK, who seemed to enjoy the return to chasing when last seen on the track at Leicester 75 days ago. This step up in trip will suit and a mark of 109 certainly looks to be within reach for the 10-year-old. Ckalco Des Loges clearly has talent for his in-form yard but has been pulled up the last twice and needs a market check, while Bajardo may well prove best of the remainder.

Verdict

BAJARDO appeals as the most solid option after his 2 good runs in December off this sort of mark. Jayo Time was in the process of running his best race for a while when falling at the last at Hereford and is respected if none the worse, while Triple Chief is a potential player if his latest run can be forgiven.

Backed at big prices on a couple of occasions in handicaps but ultimately hasn't achieved much.

Backed at big prices on a couple of occasions in handicaps but ultimately hasn't achieved much.

Verdict

ODELLO has shown marked improvement since switching to handicaps and looked an unlucky second behind a younger horse with more scope for improvement at Hereford a month ago. The seven-year-old has gone up 6lb for those exertions, although Tom Greatrex's 7lb claim certainly helps matters in that respect. Bisoubisou looked a shade fortunate to get off the mark over hurdles last time but does get in here off a fair mark, while River Dun needs a market check wearing first-time blinkers.

Verdict

BISOUBISOU has gone the right way since switched to handicaps and fitted with cheekpieces, and a 4 lb rise for Fakenham may not prevent her going in again. Odello could build on her Hereford handicap debut second and rates an obvious threat, while Staunton didn't get close to justifying favouritism on her chase debut/return for new yard but may fare better back over timber.
