Hit a purple patch when landing back-to-back Sedgefield handicaps (27f) in spring 2016. Lightly raced and disappointing since.

Verdict

Sahara Haze looked on good terms with herself when scoring over 3m2f at Warwick last time but she's 8lb higher now dropping back in distance. It might be worth taking a chance on MOZO, who landed a heavy-ground bumper here on debut and hinted she was on a workable hurdles mark when second over C&D last time. Frosty Dawn makes some appeal on her Southwell second in February and makes most appeal of the remainder.

Verdict

SAHARA HAZE won comfortably enough under similar conditions last time and might be capable of defying a rise in the weights. Mozo didn't appear to get home over C&D on a couple of occasions towards the end of 2017 but it'll likely click with her for this yard before long, while Frosty Dawn is also respected on her penultimate Southwell second.

Verdict

BIG RIVER returned to winning ways over a similar trip at Kelso last time and the form of that contest was boosted when the second, Shantou Flyer, finished runner-up in the Ultima at Cheltenham this week. Lucinda's Russell's eight-year-old is a winner on heavy ground and is expected to give a good account back in a handicap. Recent Warwick scorer Solighoster and hat-trick seeker Looksnowtlikebrian look best of the rest.

Verdict

It hasn't really clicked for BEHIND TIME over fences, but given his connections he will doubtless come good at some point, and catching him in first-time headgear could be the time to support him. Big River adds a touch of class to the race and is a big threat.

Winning reappearance in novice hurdle here in November and good second in Leicester handicap on penultimate start. Better than bare result there last time and needs consdering in first-time hood.

Verdict

OVERTOWN EXPRESS is on a 2lb lower hurdles mark than when scoring over fences at Newbury in December and hinted his winning turn was approaching when filling the runner-up spot at Chepstow last time out. Fleminport has struck in maiden and novice hurdles the last twice and appears fairly treated off a mark of 127 now going handicapping. The pick of the remainder may be recent Newbury second Theligny, who has a 4lb rise to contend with, and the likeable Clyne.

Verdict

There should be more to come from the 5-y-o FLEMINPORT, who has won his last 2 starts in maiden/novice company and makes his handicap debut off what could turn out to be a lenient mark. Du Soleil was pulled up at Leicester last time but that only tells half the story and, like the selection, he has low mileage. Applesandpierres clearly goes well here and merits respect, as does Overtown Express.

Has really come of age over fences, completed the hat-trick in 9-runner handicap at Lingfield (28.8f) last time, finding plenty. This asks for more, but he's a progressive and likeable sort.

Verdict

The Artful Cobbler, who is on a four-timer, continues to go well for Henry Daly and his rating has gone up 20lb since the end of November. He has proven form in testing conditions and sneaks in here off bottom weight, while Rowland Meyrick winner Get On The Yager didn't appreciate a drop in distance around a sharp track at Southwell last month and should find this test of stamina more sufficient. 2016 runner-up Milansbar likes it here and the Classic Chase winner is 3lb lower than when runner-up two years ago. Silsol confirmed his liking for a stamina test when fifth in the Welsh Grand National, while Bob Ford is likely to have had this as his target for some time making just his third start for Dr Richard Newland. Preference, however, is for WESTERN CLIMATE at a big price. Twice a winner this season before a solid fourth behind Ms Parfois (second in the National Hunt Chase) and Big River (winner of a valuable Kelso event last month and a runner earlier on this card) at Warwick last time, the booking of 3lb claimer James Bowen catches the eye and he looks set to run a big race for Tom Weston.

Verdict

GET ON THE YAGER’s Rowland Meyrick win is working out well, and with the potential for better still over this sort of trip, he receives the vote, particularly as several of his rivals are arriving from hard races in the Eider. Others to consider include Back To The Thatch and the Dr Richard Newland-trained pair West of The Edge and Bob Ford.

Decent enough over fences with a win at Catterick in January over further, stamina assured. Returns to hurdles and every chance of success if transferring recent form to the smaller obstacles.

Verdict

I JUST KNOW impressed with his fluent jumping and attitude when a runaway 15-length winner at Catterick back in January and looks poised to go well again here back over hurdles before heading towards Aintree for a tilt at the Grand National. Sue Smith's charge handles deep ground and might have the class to get away with this drop in distance. Coningsby is also fancied to go well after two impressive showings on a heavy surface since joining Tom Lacey, while Cadeyrn and Piri Massini may just fall short.

Verdict

If I JUST KNOW can repeat his recent Catterick success over fences here reverting to hurdles then he will take all the beating at these weights. Coningsby represents an in-form stable and won't be too far behind the selection and could be the one for the forecast.

Verdict

PRESENT FLIGHT ran well at Ayr in January on his return from a 21-month absence when second and brushed aside any potential doubts over the 'bounce' factor when third at the same venue 19 days ago for Lucinda Russell. The nine-year-old will appreciate this drop in distance and could have enough to land this, despite doubts over his ability to handle heavy ground. Wings Of Smoke isn't getting any younger but should run an honest race, while course winner Cobajayisland wears a tongue-tie for the first time and is respected.

Verdict

ISKABEG LANE looked likely to double his tally over fences until coming down in unfortunate fashion at Market Rasen on Sunday and is taken to make amends off the same mark. Present Flight is feared most back at a more suitable trip.

Verdict

WHISKEY IN THE JAR has been very impressive the last twice for Olly Murphy, including at this venue on his penultimate start, and can continue his progress for this talented young handler. Just Don't Ask jumped well and shaped like a staying chaser in the making when winning at Ayr last time, while Iron Horse could prove best of a modest remainder.

Verdict

WHISKEY IN THE JAR is going the right way over hurdles now and looks up to completing the hat-trick. Just Don’t Ask is likely to give him most to think about.

Verdict

This is a bumper that has worked out well in recent years, with the likes of Portrush Ted (2017), Mr Big Shot (2016), and Raya Star (2010) amongst the list of past winners. Heavy ground has resulted in a small field for this year's renewal, but LECHLADE MAGICIAN looks worth a chance for a handler who is 3-10 in bumpers at this venue in the last five years. He hacked up by 12 lengths at Wincanton before struggling in a hot Newbury bumper last month, though this looks much easier and he can account for Champagnendiamonds and Smiths Cross.

Verdict

LECHLADE MAGICIAN failed to give his running when well beaten in a listed event at Newbury but he went off a similar price to his winning stablemate Acey Milan (who wasn't disgraced in the Champion Bumper earlier this week) so is clearly thought capable of a good deal better. Champagnendiamonds shaped well when runner-up at Kelso on debut and is feared most.
