Verdict

Knight Destroyer is a useful performer on the Flat and he does bring some hurdling form to the table following his second-placed finish at Cartmel in August. However, that form is not very strong and he may need to improve to be successful. HERNANDES remains a maiden across both codes but he showed plenty of promise when finishing fourth on his hurdles debut recently and he tops the shortlist. Falcon Sun, Outcrop and Shakabula are others to consider.

Verdict

KNIGHT DESTROYER has run well on the Flat since his hurdling debut second in August and is taken to build on that and go one better now. Hernandes showed promise when fourth at Huntingdon recently and could be the one to give him most to do, although money for the Skelton debutant Falcon Sun would also bring him into it. Outcrop also makes the shortlist.

Runner-up on all 3 starts in Irish mares maiden points but will be brought along gradually as a hurdler if his debut at Warwick in May is anything to by.

Verdict

Counter Shy beat a useful rival, who has won since, on his hurdling debut at Worcester last month and he has to be respected, despite carrying a penalty for that success. CAUSE TOUJOURS was sent off as favourite for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March on the back of an impressive win at Warwick. He was a well-beaten ninth on that occasion but it did confirm him as an exciting prospect in this sphere. Midnight Shadow is another former useful bumper performer who could have a bright future ahead of him.

Verdict

CAUSE TOUJOURS was all the rage in the betting ahead of the Champion Bumper and, while he didn't really see things out that day, he still makes big appeal switched to hurdling with a tongue tie fitted for this reappearance. Counter Shy, an easy winner of both starts to date, provides a formidable opponent and Dakkar Collonges brings some solid form over from France.

Dual hurdles winner last term who added to his Fakenham tally on New Year's Day. Not in same form next time and tends to need his first run back.

Verdict

Secret Door was a progressive filly last season but her most recent performance suggested that the handicapper may have her mark unless some improvement is found. However, that cannot be discounted given her age. NO HASSLE HOFF made the frame in three competitive Grade 2 novice hurdles last season and he appeared to be well handicapped when sent off as favourite for a very competitive handicap at Aintree in April. He was not disgraced on that occasion, finishing fourth, but he did run as though a long season might have taken the edge of him. Aengus was in good form at the end of the last campaign and he has an each-way shout.

Verdict

NO HASSLE HOFF had an impressive novice season last year and, given the strength of his form, he still strikes as being well-in from a mark of 134, so he's taken to make a winning reappearance at the expense of Secret Door and Aengus, who both ended 2016/17 at the top of their game.

Slowly got the hang of things over hurdles, improving for the longer trip when scoring at Hereford (21.7f) in March. Likely has more to offer going forward but 3 lb out the weights for his chasing bow

Verdict

BENNYS KING may need it softer than advertised, but a chance is taken that Venetia Williams' progressive six-year-old can make a successful chasing debut. He was successful at this venue last season and shaped as if staying trips were set to be his forte moving forward. Paul Nicholls' horses have come out firing and his Rock On Oscar can have a say, while Sir Ivan was last seen beating Cole Harden to get off the mark over fences and is another for consideration.

Verdict

Dual point winner GET ON THE YAGER boasted a 50% record over hurdles, and the 7-y-o very much has the air of a chaser about him, so he can make a winning return tackling this discipline for the first time. Rock On Oscar hasn't been seen since finishing runner-up at Warwick in spring 2016 but is fancied to make his mark, while Sir Ivan is on a workable mark provided his jumping passes muster.

No form for a while and no appeal from miles out of the weights.

Verdict

The hat-trick-seeking IRISH OCTAVE was an impressive winner here earlier this month and he is ahead of the assessor racing under a 7lb penalty. With that in mind, he could be hard to stop if handling the extra two furlongs he encounters. Classic Jewel could be waiting in the wings if the selection falters and the course and distance winner has had his fortunes revived since joining Evan Williams. Dick Darsie has to be respected despite the burden of top weight, while Brown Trix could still have more to come.

Verdict

IRISH OCTAVE is thriving all of a sudden and he could easily complete a hat-trick under a penalty if repeating his previous effort. Classic Jewel is another who arrives in good heart and is a clear next best.
