Irish point winner but little impact in 2 starts over hurdles. Perhaps the type to do better in handicaps.

Irish point winner but little impact in 2 starts over hurdles. Perhaps the type to do better in handicaps.

Verdict

The most interesting runner in this field is without doubt DEAD RIGHT, who returns from a 391-day break. When last seen, the son of Alflora accounted for subsequent dual Grade 1-winning hurdler Next Destination in a Punchestown Festival bumper. The lay-off is a concern but he will be hard to beat if retaining his full previous ability. Serosevsky is an obvious threat following his recent Exeter victory but may struggle to give 6lb to the selection, while Commodore Barry looks best of the remaining pair.

Verdict

DEAD RIGHT’s bumper form reads very well (beat subsequent Grade 1 winning hurdler Next Destination) and he remains a useful prospect in this sphere. Serosevsky is in excellent hands so should have more to offer.

Scored twice over fences around the turn of the year but somewhat lost his way thereafter. Halted the slide over hurdles at Warwick recently, though his jumping failed to pass muster.

Verdict

Black Sam Bella has to be given the utmost respect given her back-to-back victories earlier in this month, especially as she arrives 8lb well-in. That said, preference is for WAIT FOR ME, who was not disgraced in a valuable race at Haydock 11 days ago and he should relish this good ground. The unbeaten Malton Rose warrants consideration despite the lengthy break, while Call To Order should be monitored in the betting market.

Verdict

BLACK SAM BELLA is a fast-improving mare, taking another step forward when scoring readily at Aintree on Friday (value for more than the winning margin). She can complete the hat-trick under a penalty, though Nicky Henderson's exciting 7-y-o Malton Rose and Wait For Me should ensure she has plenty to think about.

Off the mark over fences in Ffos Las seller last month and posted solid second at Worcester (20f, good) since. This is tougher but can't be ruled out.

Verdict

SISTER SIBYL proved that her Cheltenham victory two starts ago was no fluke by finishing second in a competitive class 2 handicap over 2m here late last month. This race is an easier target than both of those contests and the step back up in trip should not be a problem. Dandy Dan displayed plenty of ability in novice hurdles last season and he is an interesting chase debutant, as is the Alan King-trained Tara View.

Verdict

This could go the way of LITHIC, who acquitted himself well over fences last season and is back over a more suitable trip here. Sister Sibyl has been in good form of late and looks the obvious danger.

Fair Flat winner who benefited from a wind operation when landing a 10-runner handicap at Kempton last week. Effectively 11 lb higher here.

Verdict

MYSTIC SKY looked to need the outing in better company than this at Sandown last month and can put that fitness-boosting contest to good use now with his sights lowered. A mark of 123 leaves connections with something to work with, while Maxime Tissier's 5lb claim also helps matters. Level Of Intensity and Eskendash both won class 4 events last time out but deserve to take their chances here, while Mister Universum is respected for the in-form Skelton operation.

Verdict

The novice ESKENDASH won at Kempton a fortnight ago was set up for him, but he could do no more than win easily and he's back in a handicap on a good mark. Drying ground will help Mystic Sky and she is feared, along with Mister Universum.

Useful hurdler and on the Flat. Left chase debut behind when runner-up at Ludlow and Cheltenham in the autumn but 4 lb out of the weights on first run since.

Verdict

This has been the plan for SAN BENEDETO since he finished second in the Grade 1 Celebration Chase at Sandown last month, and Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old can give weight and a beating to this field. That three-and-a-quarter length defeat to Altior certainly rates as impressive form, even if he was slightly flattered by that proximity to the winner, but he can still show his class here. Capitoul did it well for Dr Richard Newland at Huntingdon last time, while Kapstadt represents a team going well at present under both codes.

Verdict

SAN BENEDETO is the class act here having chased home Altior in a Grade 1 at Sandown last month and can defy top weight with the assistance of his useful amateur. Capitoul has taken very well to chasing and is next best ahead of Ozzie The Oscar, who is 2 from 2 around here.

Has been out of form for a while, but at least travelled with a bit more purpose over C&D 11 days ago and her yard is in reasonable form at present.

Verdict

IRISH OCTAVE returned to form when second over this trip at Uttoxeter latest and is expected to remain competitive following a 4lb rise. Turban finished an outpaced second over 2m4f at Wincanton last time and promises to be suited by this step up in trip, while Psychocandy remains open to improvement on her third start over fences and is another capable of playing a minor role.

Verdict

IRISH OCTAVE has a likeable profile and was unlucky to bump into a well-treated one last time so he should be capable of getting back to winning ways in what looks like a weaker race on paper. Guerrilla Tactics is the chief danger ahead of The Boss's Dream, who has dropped a long way in the weights.

Has a pedigree that suggests she'll do better in time, but unlikely to feature here based on the little she showed at Fontwell last month.

Verdict

The form standard set by those with previous experience to their name isn't the strongest and it could pay to side with a newcomer. Nicky Henderson can ready them on debut so his BARBADOS BLUE, whose dam hails from the same family as Big Buck's, and Avonmore, who sports a hood, are both worth keeping a close eye on in the betting. Don Cantillon's Huntsmans Jog, a half-brother to a Listed hurdle winner, could also take a hand.

Verdict

HUNTSMANS JOG is related to a couple of bumper winners and out of an 11f winner on the Flat, so he looks well equipped for this sort of speed test on debut and is marginally preferred to the Nicky Henderson-trained pair Avonmore and Barbados Blue.
