Well beaten in 3 minor events on Flat and no appeal now switching discipline.

Verdict

Breakfast and Captain Kissinger have to be given the utmost respect given their previous wining form over hurdles but the penalties they carry could leave them vulnerable. With that in mind, the preference is for KING D'ARGENT, who failed to win on the Flat but he performed really well in some competitive maidens and earned a rating of 75. Seaborough won over an extended mile on the level and is another to consider.

Verdict

KING D'ARGENT failed to win in 4 attempts on the Flat, but he reached a fairly useful level and looks set to run a big race on this switch to hurdling. Breakfast sets the standard on form so needs respecting. Seaborough was also no mug on the Flat and should have a future in this sphere.

Irish point winner who made up into a useful hurdler, best efforts when second in Elite Hurdle at Wincanton and sixth in Martin Pipe at Cheltenham. Likely to take a bit of stopping on chase bow.

Verdict

LOUGH DERG SPIRIT ran well in defeat in some high-class handicap hurdles last season and this former winning point-to-pointer appears to be the one to beat on his chase bow. El Terremoto, who has experience over fences, could be a threat to the selection but his fall last time out and 6lb penalty are concerns. Cool Mix was an impressive winner when last seen over hurdles and he could make his mark over fences.

Verdict

A small field but it's an intriguing contest. LOUGH DERG SPIRIT's Irish point background provides hope that he can at least match his useful hurdle form over the larger obstacles and he's selected to make the most of the 6 lb he receives from previous chase winner El Terremoto. Cool Mix went the right way over hurdles last term and also shouldn't be underestimated.

Produced a career-best effort hen shedding maiden tag on the Flat at Redcar (14f) in June (sole start for Ron Barr). Disappointed on yard bow at Thirsk (2m) in August, however. Hurdles bow.

Verdict

I Just Know is an above-average staying chaser (was sent off at 14-1 for the Grand National last time out) and he has to be given the utmost respect on his return in this sphere. That said, he may find this trip to be too sharp and preference is for KAPGARRY, who made an encouraging debut over hurdles when filling second place at Perth last month. Leodis has won on the Flat over 1m6f and is also noted.

Verdict

KAPGARRY didn't shape at all badly when runner-up on his respective hurdles bow at Perth last month and, with progress a distinct possibility, he is fancied to make it second time lucky. I Just Know is better known as a useful chaser nowadays but he can pose the chief threat.

Temperamental sort but did resume winning ways at Perth in July. Not in quite the same form both outings since and suspicion he could prove vulnerable to younger rivals here.

Verdict

Ballyandy arrives on a retrieval mission having gone backwards from his novice chase victory at Perth in September last year. He could prove to be a handicap snip on old form, but his jumping will need to improve and preference is for WILLIE BOY. The son of Tikkanen makes his debut for the Charlie Longsdon yard and has proven himself fresh in the past when winning impressively at Newbury last November. Katachenko and Acdc both have solid credentials.

Verdict

BALLYANDY disappointed in a Cheltenham handicap when last seen in January but has his sights lowered on his return and remains a smart prospect over fences given his hurdle ability. He can get his chase career back on track here, perhaps at the main expense of Willie Boy who was successful on his reappearance last season and is interesting on first outing for Charlie Longsdon.

Took this race from this mark 12 months ago and bounced back to form when 1 length second at Uttoxeter (23.3f) penultimate start. However, consistency not his strong suit and he disappointed latest.

Verdict

NOTNOW SEAMUS went up 12lb for an impressive display at Uttoxeter last month where he routed the opposition by a staggering 18 lengths. Dan Skelton's gelding steps up in trip, which should prove no issue, and another bold showing looks assured. Monbeg Theatre improved considerably on a sounder surface at the end of last season, winning two big handicaps at Cheltenham and Haydock, while Dubai Angel could have more to offer over timber.

Verdict

NOTNOW SEAMUS has done nothing but improve upon joining Dan Skelton this term, recording win number 4 with ease over shorter at Uttoxeter last month. The handicapper has exacted revenge but he's hard to discount in this groove and is fancied to go well again. Jacks Last Hope and the ultra-consistent Dubai Angel may emerge as the chief dangers.

Verdict

INK MASTER bumped into a well-handicapped rival in Cubomania at Kelso 28 days ago, when finishing runner-up, and, despite a 3lb higher mark, he looks open to further progression for Donald McCain. Oak Vintage couldn't have won any easier at Sedgefield at the beginning of the month, doing so by 19 lengths, and is respected despite an 11lb rise in the handicap, while Theflyingportrait is another to keep an eye on.

Verdict

THEFLYINGPORTRAIT has dropped to a handy mark and may be able to take advantage back in a class 3. Ink Master continues to thrive and is feared most.

Ended a productive first season on a high when winning Scottish Champion Hurdle (Handicap) at Ayr (16f, good) in April. Could do even better this year and one to consider after 6 months off.

Looked hungry again when landing back-to-back handicap hurdles over C&D last season. He won off 145 in his pomp, so retains plenty of handicapping scope back from 10 months away.

Progressed well this season, winning twice at Stratford (2m). Struggled in a more competitive race at Market Rasen next time, but that form shouldn't be scoffed at and he's a definite player.

Verdict

ARISTO DU PLESSIS took his time to come back to form having looked to have a very bright future a couple of years ago. His last two outings in 2017 resulted in success, both over C&D, and he remains fairly handicapped on his best form. Midnight Shadow has the potential for further improvement on the back of his Scottish Champion Hurdle victory at Ayr in April, while Beach Break looks best of the remainder.

Verdict

A tightly-knit handicap with INNOCENT TOUCH the selection. He was found out in a listed handicap at Market Rasen last time, but that’s not form to be scoffed at and he's taken to resume winning ways. Midnight Shadow and Aristo du Plessis look next best.
