Dual-point winner but well held when fifth of 9 on Worcester hurdles debut last month.

Verdict

SOUTHFIELD TORR, a half-brother to three multiple winners, two of which were trained by Paul Nicholls, could easily leave his modest bumper form behind him now going hurdling. It is interesting that he starts life over timber at one of the Ditcheat trainer's local tracks, a venue he has plenty of success at. Thistle Do Nicely should find this much easier than the Listed bumper he contested last time, while Marettimo's hurdling experience could allow him to catch a few of these out.

Verdict

SOUTHFIELD TORR and Thistle Do Nicely both achieved fair form in bumpers and are bred to do better over obstacles, so they could easily dominate this race given those with hurdles form appear to be ordinary. Marginal preference is for the Paul Nicholls representative.

Winning pointer who has taken very well to chasing, winning handicaps at Sedgefield and Ludlow in November. Ran poorly when last seen in May but type to bounce back. Has had wind operation.

Verdict

Captain Buck's is back on the mark he placed off over course and distance last winter and is sure to be popular for his local handler, who has started the season proper in good form. However, preference is for CANYOURINGMEBACK, who reappeared in great nick when winning by 17 lengths at Huntingdon earlier this month and should be hard to beat despite the 12lb rise if arriving in the same form. Lithic wasn't beaten far off this mark at Market Rasen in the summer and is respected stepping up in trip, while Aunty Ann is another to note.

Verdict

CAPTAIN BUCK'S has yet to score over fences but went very close a couple of times last season and has dropped to a handy mark. The progressive Canyouringmeback is the obvious threat as he bids for the hat-trick, with The Happy Chappy another to consider.

Has generally improved as a hurdler since switched to handicaps/quicker ground this year, pulling out more still to get back to winning ways at Warwick last time. Steps up in grade here, though.

Verdict

LOVATO returned to winning form at Bangor earlier in the month having improved from his first start of the season at Stratford in September. He showed a good attitude on that occasion to get back up after the final flight and he beat the reopposing Red Hot Chilly. The pair of blinkers could well elicit further progression after a 6lb rise. Fergal O'Brien's charge went up 5lb for his defeat and looks a solid threat once again, while Cubswin has been very consistent over the summer and will appreciate underfoot conditions.

Verdict

CUBSWIN went like the best horse at the weights for most of the way at Fontwell only to be chinned late, so this progressive 4-y-o is well worth a chance to make amends with the extra emphasis on speed likely to suit. Last-time-out winner Lovato is the main danger, while Volpone Jelois has been given a chance by the handicapper returning to hurdling after some respectable showings on the level.

No better than modest form over jumps and hard to assess how much he achieved on his chasing debut at Plumpton last month, jumping none too fluently and never really involved. Cheekpieces tried.

Verdict

BOY IN A BENTLEY finally got it together over fences when second on his latest start at Bangor having failed to complete on his previous two outings. The drop to 2m could see Neil Mulholland's gelding show improved form in what looks a more than winnable race. Dark Invader is capable of going close if on a going day, while Chozen could improve for going chasing having won a novice handicap hurdle off 3lb lower at Carlisle last November.

Verdict

CHOZEN could be the type to make up into a useful chaser and this looks a good opening for him on his return. The danger might be Boy In A Bentley if he can build on his second at Bangor. Dark Invader remains on a fair mark but these fences will present a real test for such an iffy jumper.

Return to forcing tactics did the trick when adding to his tally in a 6-runner contest at Fontwell (19.5f) 3 starts back. However, he's another who has run below that level since.

One-time useful chaser, though only poor nowadays, and he was never a threat having a rare start over timber at Stratford (26.4f) in August.

Verdict

BEAU SANCY made a winning debut for these connections at Bangor earlier in the month and he is hard to oppose once again, although a 10lb hike in the ratings will make it a tougher test for the six-year-old. Djarkevi put in a career best over fences last time out and he should be in the mix. Others to note are Turban and Norse Light.

Verdict

BEAU SANCY proved a totally different proposition when making a winning debut for his shrewd handler at Bangor earlier this month, and there is a strong suspicion a subsequent 10 lb rise won't prevent a bold follow-up bid. Norse Light, with a recent spin over hurdles under his belt can emerge as the chief threat.

Looked back in form when 13½ lengths fourth of 11 in handicap at Newton Abbot (21.6f) last month, doing too much too soon. Not sure to build on that, though.

Verdict

MR FICKLE was a decisive winner at Fontwell when last seen over hurdles and should be hard to beat once again, despite an 8lb rise in the ratings, in what appears to be a moderate contest. Glanvilles Guest is another whose recent form offers plenty of hope for her chances, while Silver Sea, a decent third at Newton Abbot 18 days ago, and Vexillum complete the shortlist.

Verdict

SILVER SEA shaped well in a race that's working out at Newton Abbot earlier this month and looks capable of defying this sort of mark on that evidence. Jennys Day is potentially very well treated and should be all the better for his recent run. Benbecula would also be a threat if backing up his latest effort.
