Paid her way over hurdles towards the end of 2011, but still a maiden on the Flat, and last month's effort here was only modest.

Verdict

Carlton Scroop finished a fair second under today's pilot at Southwell and may benefit from this furlong longer trip, but the booking of Serena Brotherton on MAGNITUDE could tip the balance in favour of Brian Baugh's charge, as the partnership was not too far away at Southwell last time. Harare may be happier now dropped in trip, while My Mate Mal should come on for his first run in 11 months at Southwell.

Verdict

My Mate Mal has been given every chance by the handicapper and is a tentative choice in the opener. Magnitude looks a solid danger under Serena Brotherton, while Carlton Scroop has been running respectably and could also make his presence felt.

A while since he won but down to a good mark and signs he may be ready to take advantage when third over C&D last 2 starts, travelling well held up.

Verdict

Just Five acquitted himself well at Southwell last time and cannot be ignored with Jamie Spencer aboard here, but this could be between the two last-time-out winners, Cwmni and FLYING APPLAUSE. The former took advantage of a lowly rating to score over C&D last month and may find things tougher off a 4lb higher mark, while Flying Applause is up just 2lb for a similar margin success and has form off much higher marks in the past.

Verdict

Last-time-out winners Flying Applause and Cwmni are far from certain to be in the same form so it could be worth chancing Pie Poudre to get back on the scoresheet after his reappearance. Just Timmy Marcus should be on the premises again, while money for Swinger would put a different spin on things.

Won 1m Kempton claimer last summer and his turn looks near again judged on second to thriving Munsarim at Lingfield last time. Is a C&D winner and has a massive chance at the weights.

Verdict

RED SOMERSET has been in decent form in claimers on polytrack and a similar effort as when second to Munsarim at Kempton last time may be enough for him to go one better. Faithful Ruler won in this sphere on his last visit to Dunstall Park and may have just found the slow surface at Southwell against him. He poses the biggest threat, though Marvo and Hail Tiberius cannot be completely ruled out.

Verdict

Hail Tiberius is interesting dropped into a seller with Jamie Spencer on board, but Red Somerset could prove a tough nut to crack.

Invincible Spirit filly from useful Irish family and cost a cool 115,000 gns as a yearling. Market check vital on debut, particularly in relation to experienced stablemate Cape Savannah.

Verdict

Croftamie made a decent fist of things on her debut at Nottingham in November but her ability on this surface has to be taken on trust, so CAPE SAVANNAH gets the vote. David Simcock's colt was just five lengths away when third of six at Lingfield last time and as he appears to be progressing well, he can land this. Roughlyn ran as though the race would bring him on at Lingfield last month, while the selection's stablemate Star Bonita and Michael Bell's Ruacana are interesting newcomers.

Verdict

Ruacana and Star Bonita both appeal on debut, but Croftamie made a good start at Nottingham at the back-end of last season and looks up to winning this stepped up in trip.

Showed enough in 2010 to think he could win a weak race (well backed on handicap debut) and although he missed 2011, handicapper has given him a real chance. Market the best guide.

Verdict

WARDEN BOND has developed a real love affair with this track, winning narrowly the last twice, and the manner of those successes means the handicapper hasn't treated him harshly so the hat-trick beckons here. Merrjanah wasn't far away here last time and is 1lb lower this time, while Aviso gets another chance off the same mark as when third at Lingfield latest.

Verdict

Market support behind the returning Aegean King would look extremely significant, but without that knowledge, Harrys Yer Man is taken to quickly regain the winning thread back over a more suitable test. The hat-trick seeking Warden Bond and Kyle of Bute are others of interest.

Improved in latter stages of 2-y-o campaign, landing brace of 5f handicaps. Good runner-up efforts last twice and yard in good form, but others far less exposed here.

Verdict

Cats Eyes was always in command when opening her account at Kempton and doesn't look too badly treated for her handicap debut, while Code Six was an all-the-way winner here in November and she might have a little in hand of the handicapper if she improves. Gin Twist has a 3lb rise to contend with for her win at Kempton latest, so preference is for AL FREEJ, who opened his account in fine style here earlier in the month and Roger Varian's charge may have more to come.

Verdict

Handicap debutantes Al Freej, Cats Eyes and Code Six are last-time-out winners with their best days ahead of them, and are preferred in that order.

140,000 gns purchase as a yearling, and a half-sister to several winners, 3 of whom were smart. Shouldn't lack for speed, and the obvious danger to Red Trump if strong in the betting.

Verdict

RED TRUMP didn't show a great deal on his debut at Kempton, but Charlie Hills' charge left that form well behind with a good second here four days later. The Red Clubs colt looks to have been found an ideal opportunity here, though Prime Run fetched 140,000 guineas at the sales and as a half-sister to a number of winners including Green Manalishi, the debutant could be the biggest threat. Henry George might be best of the rest.

Verdict

Red Trump sets a pretty good standard with the prospect of more to come, so is preferred to the well-bred newcomer Prime Run in what is likely a match.

Off best part of 5 months and produced a career-best effort when scoring over C&D in January. Well served by way race panned out that day, which is more of a concern than his 3 lb rise.

Enjoyed run of the race when bouncing back to form to win C&D handicap in November. Hasn't built on that in 3 runs since, but may not face too much company at the front end this time.

Done most of his racing at 5f/6f but gone well over 7f, posting another solid effort when fourth over C&D 11 days ago. Remains on a good mark, but becoming hard to win with.

Improved to win 2 sprint handicaps at back-end of 2010. Last season a write-off, but much more encouragement this time round, just collared on the line here 10 days ago (pair clear).

Won 1m handicap at Leopardstown in 2010 for David Marnane and contributed to the good form of her current stable when making a successful reappearance over C&D. Player again up 4 lb.

Won 1m handicap at Leopardstown in 2010 for David Marnane and contributed to the good form of her current stable when making a successful reappearance over C&D. Player again up 4 lb.

Verdict

Hawk Moth took advantage of a falling mark to score here last time though whether he'll be as effective off a 3lb higher rating here is open to question. July Days is up 4lb for her recent C&D success but she may have to give best to DUNMORE BOY. Richard Fahey's runner missed out by just a short-head over a furlong shorter here last time and the return to this longer trip could help.

Verdict

A tightly-knit handicap to end the card. Recent C&D winners July Days and Hawk Moth command respect, but the vote goes to Dunmore Boy back up in trip. Bahamian Lad is also of interest if allowed things his own way.
