Lightly-raced maiden. 7¾ lengths fourth of 6 to Laydee Victoria in seller (66/1) at Southwell (6.1f) 13 days ago. Hooded for 1st time. Makes handicap debut.

Verdict

RAY PURCHASE could hardly have been more impressive when scoring at Southwell last week, his first career success, and a 6lb penalty might not be enough to halt this gelding if he arrives in the same mood and full of confidence. Laydee Victoria boasts a similar profile, also breaking through at Southwell earlier this month, and is another to note. Shyjack completes the shortlist on just his second start in handicap company.

Verdict

Some moderate 3-y-os here and RIVER RULE is one of the few open to improvement. Making her handicap debut, she could fare a lot better and any market support should be followed. Shyjack likely has more to offer, while Ray Purchase will be a big player if building on his much-improved display when winning at Southwell recently.

Verdict

Natch is entitled to have come forward for his Chelmsford introduction and is a must for the shortlist, but CROSS COUNTER looked a smart colt when winning over a similar trip here on his introduction and Charlie Appleby's charge can give the John Gosden inmate weight and a beating. The form of his debut success has worked out well, with the fourth and sixth winning since. Paddy The Chef looks best of the rest.

Verdict

CROSS COUNTER clocked a good time when making a successful debut here last month and can make it 2 from 2 with improvement forthcoming. Paddy The Chef looks the clear danger with this step up in trip sure to suit him.

Latest win at Southwell in January. 7/2, good third of 7 in handicap at this C&D 9 days ago, nearest finish.

Verdict

A select but competitive handicap in which a case can be made for all four. DESERT DOCTOR shares top weight with the hat-trick seeking Big Time Maybe, and he looks the one to be on given he won over C&D recently with plenty up his sleeve and is still improving after just the four starts. Big Time Maybe also has a win over track and trip to his name, while Gift In Time is unexposed on the all-weather, and Emilia James is entitled to have come on for her latest course exertions.

Verdict

BIG TIME MAYBE could have more to offer this year for his in-form yard and can get the hat-trick up. Gift In Time was unlucky not to finish closer here on his latest outing and gets the vote for the forecast.

Hooded for 1st time, respectable fourth of 10 in handicap (20/1) at this course (12.2f) 18 days ago. Long time since his last win under either code.

Verdict

SONNETIST looks the safe play in this handicap given his unexposed all-weather profile and recent form. A decent second-placed effort at Kempton was proof his Southwell triumph at the expense of Swift Cedar last month was no fluke, and the handicapper has left him on the same mark as he tries a new trip. Willyegolassiego is a model of consistency, and a C&D winner to boot, so must be respected, while chances are also given to Paddys Runner and Gabrial The Terror.

Verdict

WILLYEGOLASSIEGO is building up a good profile in AW handicaps and can notch up another success. Lady Makfi and Sonnetist both have to be respected also.

Verdict

FLIGHT OF FANTASY beat Sonnetist, who may have offered the form a timely boost in the previous race on this card, by five lengths at Kempton earlier this month and this progressive filly can go in again despite the 8lb rise. Island Brave knows his way around here and is closely matched with the reopposing Royal Reserve on their meeting at Lingfield last month. Zabeel Star is another expected to go well.

Verdict

A chance is taken on MUSTAAQEEM, who has dropped to a tempting mark and who has a good record under the returning Paul Hanagan. Barye and Valitop both lurk on attractive marks also and are likely to come good again before too much longer. Flight of Fantasy needs to improve again to back up her Kempton success when seen to maximum effect.

Three wins from 9 runs last year. Off 7 months. First run for yard after leaving Ian Williams. No surprise to see him come good again at some point here this winter.

Verdict

CHAMPAGNE PINK's winning run came to an end at Newcastle but she's well worth another look back at Wolverhampton where she has a C&D record of 2/2. Karl Burke's charge racked up a hat-trick of course successes prior to that latest reverse and could still be well handicapped off 74. International Law debuts for a new stable on the back of his Windsor triumph in October and heads the list of dangers from Gabrial The Thug.

Verdict

INTERNATIONAL LAW looks interesting on his first run for Antony Brittain having dead-heated in a stronger event at Windsor when last seen. He likely remains on a workable mark and gets the vote. Champagne Pink could do better returned to Wolverhampton, while Bounderby should find his way in handicaps.
