C&D winner who took a couple of 5f AW handicaps at the turn of the year and should have come on for recent Chelmsford run after 4 months off. This looks too tough, though.

Verdict

Major Jumbo signed off last season with a 6f victory here in September and struck over this trip on his return to action at Newmarket. He's expected to go well on the front end under Nicola Currie, though there is plenty of other speed in the line-up and this could be set up nicely to suit EDWARD LEWIS, who is entitled to come on for his comeback spin at Pontefract latest. El Astronaute ran well from a wide draw at Chester last time and the progressive Sheepscar Lad cannot be left out of calculations either.

Verdict

It could be worth chancing CARLTON FRANKIE on her return after a breathing operation. She was struggling when last seen but has fallen to a tempting mark, and thrived at the start of last season. Next on the shortlist is Poyle Vinnie, back in good heart for his new yard and third in this last year off a 16 lb higher mark. El Astronaute and Major Jumbo are a couple of others with solid claims.

Smart mare who landed Group 3 at the Curragh this time last year. Largely acquitted herself well in defeat since but others more persuasive.

Verdict

Coronet very much sets the standard having run well in multiple Group 1 races last season, but over a trip short of her optimum, and on ground probably faster than ideal, it might be worth taking her on with CHAIN OF DAISIES. Henry Candy's mare is currently one from one at the track, she will love forecast rattling quick conditions and signed off last season with an impressive all-the-way Listed win at Newmarket. Turret Rocks is likely to step forward from her comeback effort at Naas.

Verdict

MORI may not have been suited by the easier ground when below her best on her final 2 starts last term, but is the type of performer her shrewd handler excels with and is taken to make a winning return. Coronet is feared most, despite the slight concern over the drop in trip, whilst Chain of Daisies is also respected.

Tipperary maiden winner on second run last season but failed to beat a rival home in Newmarket Group 3 next time. Well held behind Crossed Baton on Epsom return and makes limited appeal.

Verdict

Roaring Lion improved on his return in the Craven when fifth in the 2000 Guineas behind Saxon Warrior and he should stay the distance on pedigree. That said, the majority of his rivals are unexposed and open to significant improvement which include Crossed Baton, Mildenberger and WELLS FARHH GO. Tim Easterby's colt landed the Acomb Stakes here over 7f last August and is guaranteed to relish the step up in trip.

Verdict

MILDENBERGER continued his upward curve when taking a Newmarket listed race on his reappearance last month and likely has more to offer yet, with this stiffer test sure to play to his strengths. He is fancied to score. Roaring Lion bounced back to form in the 2000 Guineas and is the obvious danger, whilst dual-course winner Wells Farhh Go is also interesting.

Verdict

Larchmont Lad was deemed good enough to contest the 2000 Guineas last year and is respected here on just his fourth start for David O'Meara. Stable companion Custom Cut and Original Choice are also noted, likewise Afaak who has a nice line of form behind Lockinge hopeful Addeybb at Newmarket last September. CAPE BYRON is a fascinating contender, though, representing powerful connections and having had a wind operation following his latest Meydan reverse behind Benbatl. He could be anything.

Verdict

Whilst having the plum draw in stall 1 to work from at Chester last week, BARAWEEZ was still deserving of plenty of credit for making up as much ground as he did from the rear. He remains with handicapping scope on old form and could be worth siding with in his current mood. Original Choice is a thoroughly likeable type who is feared most ahead of Cape Byron.

Resumed progress on the back of 9 months off at Newcastle (5f) 2 weeks ago, value for extra under a hands-and-heels ride. Not disgraced at listed level last term and she's a better-rounded model now.

Verdict

HEY JONESY was far from disgraced when ridden to get an extra two furlongs at Newmarket last time out and should appreciate the drop back to a sprinting distance. The course winner represents a yard that goes well here and can utilise his pace over this trip. Roussel's second behind Hey Gaman was boosted when the latter filled the runner-up spot in the French Guineas over the weekend, while Declarationofpeace beat Sound And Silence in the Juvenile Turf Sprint in November.

Verdict

HEY JONESY was possibly unsuited by the switch to hold-up tactics in the Free Handicap on return 4 weeks ago. The drop back to sprinting and the possibility of being ridden more prominently are both positive factors ahead of this, and he can get back on track. Declarationofpeace, Main Desire and Mokaatil head up the list of potential dangers.
