Eve Johnson Houghton Stable Tour

With Accidental Agent winning the stable's first Group 1, Eve Johnson Houghton has already passed last years prize money total and points out those who could extent that total further

One of the resounding memories of Royal Ascot last month was the abounding joy expressed by Eve Johnson Houghton when she landed a first Group 1 success with Accidental Agent in the Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of Eve’s company will know that she lives and breathes horses and the passion she displayed on that momentous occasion was nothing less than expected from a trainer who has made terrific progress in the past two seasons.

Not surprisingly, the £367,197 that Accidental Agent collected for that victory has helped her sweep past her prize money total of £663,150 for 2017, when she netted 52 wins, with £676,247 in the coffers already and 24 winners so far.

Accidental Agent could soon be bidding for further honours at Deauville but she has plenty more ammunition to fire on the home front.

Eve said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with the way that the season has been progressing but I haven’t got many horse to run at the moment on this fast ground that prevails.”

Eve kindly spoke to Tony Elves of ATR about stable star Accidental Agent and several others that she hopes will be reaching the winner’s enclosure in the months to come.

Accidental Agent

Form Profile:

Winner of five of his 14 starts and currently rated 116. Career best effort when landing the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot (1m) in June when beating Lord Glitters half a length.

Trainer Says:

He is very much what it says on the tin. We were possibly thinking of going for the Summer Mile at Ascot but he just banged a joint and, although he is 100 per cent sound and still going out, I am going to give another couple of weeks. We might go Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville next and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is the obvious race for him. He gave us our biggest success by a country mile when landing the Queen Anne and I was overwhelmed by the way his victory was received.

Becca Campbell (IRE)

Form Profile:

Winner of five of her 32 starts and currently rated 68. Finished third, beaten six and a quarter lengths, to Panko on her latest start at Goodwood (1m 3f) in June off her current mark.

Trainer Says:

She is a yard favourite and she won three races last year. She has yet to win this year but we are hopeful we can get back to winning ways. She wouldn’t like rattling firm ground and we are just going to be a little patient.

Form Profile:

Winner of five of his 13 starts and currently rated 95. Winner of his first two starts this season scoring by a length and a half from Lawless Secret at Kempton (1m 3f) in April off a mark of 86 and following up with a length and three quarter defeat of Koeman at Ascot (1m 4f) in May off a mark of 90.

Trainer Says:

He unfortunately sustained a minor injury at Ascot which explained why he ran so badly. He won’t be out again until the AW but is obviously a very likeable horse.

Frank Bridge

Form Profile:

Winner of six of his 25 stars and currently rated 88. Runner-up, beaten a nose, to Gurkha Friend at Ripon (1m) in June on his latest start off his current mark.

Trainer Says:

He is a star and he is a really small horse but he has the heart of a lion. He doesn’t want rattling fast ground but anything with good in it is fine. If it’s good to firm (good in places) I would go for it but he just can't take really firm ground. We might have to be patient with him but he will come good again this year.

Form Profile:

Winner of 8 of his 30 starts and currently rated 103. Returned to winning form at Windsor (6f) last Monday night when beating Maakaasib a length and a quarter off his current mark.

Trainer Says:

Ice Age won at Windsor last Monday and he doesn’t care about the ground. He has improved over a stone and he finished fourth in the Windsor race off 86 last year and won it this year off 103. He has just improved and improved and he could possibly go for a race at the Curragh on July 21.

Form Profile:

Winner of five of her 32 starts and currently rated 65. Winner four time last season and unplaced both starts this term at Chepstow (1m 4f and 1m 2f) in May and June.

Trainer Says:

She is another family favourite and just wins at her level. She doesn’t want the ground too firm and we are just waiting for a bit, since likes so many of mine she doesn't want it like a road.

On To Victory

Form Profile:

Winner of three of his 16 starts and currently rated 104. Came closest to victory this term in a listed event at Nottingham (1m 6f) in April when runner-up, beaten a neck, to Mount Moriah.

Trainer Says:

I was thrilled with his run in the Northumberland and he didn’t quite get the trip. I don’t know if it was because it was riding sticky and slow that day but he didn’t quite get home. Coming into the final furlong he was going to finish third and he just scraped home in eighth. He will have an entry in the Ebor and all those nice staying races.

He ran at Chelmsford on Saturday and just isn’t performing how we would expect. I am finding him frustrating as I think he is quite a good horse but I can’t seem to win with him.

Winner of two of her 9 starts and currently rated 64. Returned to winning form when beating Poyle Charlotte a length and a quarter at Kempton (7f) in June off a mark of 59.

Trainer Says:

She won at Kempton last week and I was thrilled with her. She will probably make a reappearance back on the AW and she is another who wants a bit of cut in the ground on the turf.

Trainer Says:

As we all know he needs a bit of cut in the ground. He is having a mid Summer break and we will be looking at Listed and Group races back at Newbury and Goodwood.
