Gary Moore

Top class chasers, both established and novices abound in Gary Moore's West Sussex stables and he's put together an insightful summary for many of his near to hand runners including his Cheltenham hopefuls
  • Monday 12 March 2018
  • Stable Tours

GARY MOORE showed that his team are very much in the right form ahead of this week’s Cheltenham Festival when Eragon De Chennay romped away with the Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday and that horse could well be a contender for the Fred Winter later in the week.

Moore hopes that several of his team have sporting chances in a busy week for his Cisswood Racing Team in Lower Beeding and prime hopes appear to rest with Benatar in the JLT Novices’ Chase on Thursday for which he is currently around odds of 8-1. Benatar has won his three chases this term and took the notable scalp of Finian’s Oscar when last seen in a Grade 2 at Ascot in December and high hopes are also entertained for  bold showing from Ar Mad in the Champion Chase and from Sussex Ranger in the Triumph Hurdle.

Win, lose or draw, Moore has others that he hopes can prosper in the coming months and kindly spoke to Tony Elves of ATR on the eve of the four most important days of the Jumps season.

She is a nice filly who has done nothing wrong. She ran a nice race in the Chatteris Fen at Huntingdon when third to Esprit De Somoza and I am now looking forward to running her on the Flat. She may not go jumping again this season.

Trainer Says:

She has done well this season but was a little bit disappointing last time at Sandown and might just have some slight aversion of going right handed. She has done nothing wrong and is a nice mare and she goes to Newbury on March 24.

He has come back after niggly problems and he runs in the Champion Chase on Wednesday. It is a bit of tall order but he is in great form with himself and I couldn’t be more pleased with him. I just hope he runs a nice race.

Trainer Says:

The handicapper has killed him for winning a bad race at Plumpton and he ran second under a penalty in another bad race at Huntingdon. He is now on a mark from which I don’t think he is capable of winning.

Trainer Says:

He won well first time at Plumpton and we thought he was quite a smart horse. I don’t think he stayed at Fontwell and he is a horse I like a lot. I think he needs to be delivered later in his race and he would be suited by a strong run handicap. He may run in the Sussex Champion Hurdle at Plumpton next.

Trainer Says:

He is a good horse and one we thought a lot of. He won at Fontwell on Boxing Day but hasn’t come up to scratch in his last two runs. We may put him away and go chasing with him next season. That's what he was bought to do and if he takes to chasing like I think he will do, he will be a better chaser than a hurdler.
