MICHAEL BELL has had his fair share of major triumphs in the two-year-old division in over 30 years as a racehorse trainer and his most recent top drawer performer, Pretty Pollyanna, was just two years ago.

The Oasis Dream filly, owned by Bill and Tim Gredley, landed the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville and Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket during a highly successful juvenile campaign and, for Bell, last year’s money-spinner was Stone Circle who picked up £147,000 for his owners when landing the Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at the Curragh in September.

The same owners, the Fitzrovians, also enjoyed significant success with Master Brewer (renamed World Famous when sold to Hong Kong) when winining a valuable Sales race at Longchamp in 2017.

There have been the likes of Margot Did (Listed Land O’Burns Stakes at Ayr), Bahamian Babe (Listed Marygate Stakes at York), Needles And Pins (Listed Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury), Nevisian Lad (Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket) and Bell’s previous Group 1 Prix Morny winner, Hoh Magic, in 1994.

The Fitzroy House trainer kindly spoke to Tony Elves about a few of his two-,year-olds that he hopes can make names for themselves in 2020 and beyond.

Please note: Where a horse exists in the ATR database we have linked to its form and tracker profile below, we will update others when they become available.

Bay Colt; Muhaarar – Miss Brown To You
"He is a half brother to Big Orange who did so well for us and won the Ascot Gold Cup in 2017. He is a homebred of the Gredley’s and he will start over six or seven furlongs in mid-summer all being well. I like him – he is a good mover and very well balanced and he has a nice temperament".

Bay Colt; Kingman – Puty Ball
"He is a very handsome horse and is by Kingman out of a listed winner who was by Silver Deputy. He has bags of scope and is very nice colt. He is related to one winner and the dam is a half sister to a Grade 1 winner. I imagine he will start over six or seven furlongs but he will end up being a mile/mile and a quarter horse."

Bay Colt; Lope De Vega – Crystal Melody
"He is Lope de Vega out of a Nureyev mare who cost 70,000gns at Tattersalls. He is a half brother to Grande Melody who won the Grade 2 Dahlia Handicap at Hollywood Park and he is from one of Michael Poland’s great families. He is a nice colt and he will be out in the second half of the season. He will start over seven furlongs or a mile.

Bay Filly; Camelot - Forthefirsttime
She cost 20,000gns and the dam was a Stakes winner. She is a very good mover and we would be very keen at this stage. She has a lot of quality and I would say she will start of mid to late summer. She is a big filly with plenty to like about her.

Bay Colt; Dark Angel – Sand Vixen
He is by Dark Angel out of Sand Vixen, who won the Flying Childers as a two-year-old. He is a very strong well made horse and he is a half brother to Godolphin's very smart Dream Castle who won the Jebel Hatta. He is owned  by Her Majesty The Queen and hopefully he will be a top two-year-old. He has a small injury at the moment but once that settles down we can crack on with him.

Chestnut Colt; Reliable Man – Quenching
He is a full-brother to Master Brewer, who won a sales race (at Longchamp) for us and now races under the name of World Famous in Hong Kong, and also to Quiet Times who won a listed race at Chantilly last month and beat a highly rated horse. He is a very strong well made colt and he should have a bright future.

Bay Filly; Nathaniel – Bekhara
She is a homebred filly of the Bamford’s who has not been here long but looks a nice prospect although it will all be about next year with her. She has lovely big lop ears and she will probably start off in the Autumn. She will be a proper middle distance filly for next year and we like her a lot.

Santiki is expected to make up into a middle distance filly next year.
