EVE JOHNSON HOUGHTON enjoyed another highly satisfactory Flat season in 2019 with 44 winners and £609,005 in prize money and her two-year-old team chipped in with a healthy 11 successes.
Star of the show was the filly Graceful Magic who notched three victories in her first season and narrowly failed to give the Woodway Stables trainer a Group success when failing by only half a length behind Rose of Kildare in the Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr in September.
Eve looks to have a nice bunch of juveniles again as she patiently awaits the return of racing and she kindly spoke to Tony Elves of At The Races about those she hopes can give a good account when coming under Starter’s Orders.
Please note: Where a horse exists in the ATR database we have linked to its form and tracker profile below, we will update others when they become available.
BHUBEZI
Chestnut Colt; Starspangledbanner – Lulani
"He is a homebred colt of Mrs Blyth Currie’s and he went through the Doncaster Sales ring so he is qualified for the Doncaster Sales Race. He has done well for not being rushed and I would hope that he would be out late June. I think he is definitely a six furlong horse."
COCO BEAR
Brown Colt; Kodi Bear – House of Roses
"He is sharp and he will be one of my early ones. I would hope to have him out within a week or two of racing starting depending on whether we can get him in a race or not. He knows his job and he goes well. He will probably start over five but it depends on what we can get in."
ENDURING
Bay Colt; Coulsty – Yearbook
"He was lot Number 1 at Ascot Yearling Sales so I think he was probably the first yearling bought in Britain last year. He is a really grand sort and he goes well and I would think he would be quite early. We will probably start him over six furlongs and he is a really nice horse. He has done a lot of bunching up but not super fast work."
FLAME OF FREEDOM
Bay Filly; Dragon Pulse – Catalan
"She is a sharp filly by Dragon Pulse and it wouldn’t be too long before she was out. We will probably start over six furlongs I think."
GRANARY QUEEN
Chestnut Filly; Dragon Pulse – Multi Grain
"She is another Dragon Pulse I have and she is sharp. She is another who should be in action fairly shortly after we get the green light."
JUMBY
Bay Colt; New Bay – Sound of Guns
"He is one for the backend – he is a lovely mover and a real nice type. He has a great attitude and he will want seven furlongs to a mile. He will probably have a couple of runs and then be put away for the year."
MARSELAN
Bay Colt;Awtaad – Monclaire
"He looked like he did everything very easily early doors and he stills does but he’s grown a bit and won’t be as early as I thought. I would imagine he would be a July type and want seven furlongs."
STIGWOOD
Bay Colt; Kodiac – Time Honoured
"He is a lovely horse by Kodiac and he does everything very easily. He won’t be that early but he has a great way of going about life. I would say he would be out August time over seven furlongs."
TATTOO
Bay Filly; Equiano – Belvoir Diva
"She is a filly by Equiano that I like a lot. She is another who is a neat sharp filly and she was cheaply bought and would have been running in maiden auctions but we are not going to have maiden auctions. Everyone will want to get a run before Ascot and that could make life difficult for her if she ends up racing against the big guns."
