WELCOME to our Eyecatchers column. Every week Alan Thomson pinpoints horses primed to strike in the next few weeks, if not days. Remember, you can add Alan's weekly updates to your ATR Tracker.
CASTILO DEL DIABLO ATR Tracker
(Lingfield, 26 November)
David Simcock's gelding, a winner over two miles at Kempton in March, was always going to find this 1m 2f trip on the sharp side. Unsurprisingly, Castilo Del Diablo was doing his best work at the finish, running on into fourth behind Maverick Wave under 7lb claimer Sophie Killoran, and it was a most encouraging reappearance after 222 days on the sidelines.
TIMESAWASTIN ATR Tracker
(Newbury, 27 November)
Quite well treated on previous hurdles form, Timesawastin showed there was a race in him over fences with a stout display in this 2m 6f handicap. Evans Williams' eight-year-old was only collared by the upwardly-mobile Ned Stark approaching the final flight and lost little in defeat.
SILVERY MOON ATR Tracker
(Doncaster, 28 November)
Fairly effective for Tim Easterby at around 10 furlongs on the level, Silvery Moon made a perfectly satisfactory debut over hurdles at the age of seven. Racing prominently throughout, Silvery Moon wasn't knocked about when useful sorts Gingerburn, Relic Rock and Novirak piled on the pressure down the straight and the gelding should be sharper next time.
NO BUTS ATR Tracker
(Newbury, 28 November)
Quick and nimble over these inviting fences, No Buts stretched his rivals to breaking point down the straight before running out a clear-cut victor. David Bridgwater's enthusiastic six-year-old has time on his side and the handicapper might be playing catch-up in the next few months.
KINCORA FORT ATR Tracker
(Towcester, 29 November)
Showed glimpses of ability in four bumper runs before stepping into novice hurdle company here. The five-year-old travelled sweetly on the heels of the leaders and although ultimately no match for impressive Monbeg Theatre, this was still a promising effort from Noel Williams' gelding. Looks one for handicaps later in the season.
BROXBOURNE ATR Tracker
(Newbury, 29 November)
Now with Nicky Henderson, Broxbourne lit up her name in lights during the 2013 Flat season when scoring seven times for Mark Johnston. Stamina is her forte and she found herself tapped for speed when useful Carrigmoorna Rock quickened to the front in this 2m 1f mares' hurdle. Still only five, Broxbourne should come into her own when stepped up in distance on slightly less testing ground.
