St Leger hero Harbour Law (22-1), Heir To A Throne (13-2), Blakeney Point (3-1) plus Peter The Mayo Man (11-10) all rewarded followers of the column last week and Alan Thomson has shortlisted six horses from the past week that it will pay to keep onside.

(Carlisle, 7 September)

Made hard work of landing the odds from Undiscovered Angel in this seven-furlong maiden but was clearly crying out for a longer trip.

Indeed, Keith Dalgleish's filly, running in Stuart Morrison's long-standing tartan and red colours, had appreciated Hamilton's extended mile on her debut when chasing home Paul and Clare Rooney's impressive Now Children and there is more to come from Euro Nightmare.

(Epsom, 8 September)

Sir Michael Stoute hasn’t many three-year-olds in the yard sitting on a lowly 71 rating, but he clearly sees a future at a modest level for Street Poet.

Making his handicap debut in this 10-furlong Class 5 contest, Street Poet gave favourite backers a fright when closing down Shufoog near the line after failing to find a clear run approaching the final furlong.

(Chester, 9 September)

Quite a competitive seven-furlong Class 3 handicap run at a strong gallop.

Dougie Costello gunned his mount out of the gate, fully intent on making maximum use of his draw in stall one, but Muntadab was slightly hampered and caught on heels before the first bend.

Restrained into a disputed third, Muntadab was then driven into the lead two out.

Unfortunately for his backers, David Loughnane's gelding was running on fumes in the final 100 yards, eventually fading into fourth behind Penwortham.

A winner at Thirsk over seven furlongs in late July, Muntadab should appreciate being ridden with a little more restraint.

(Musselburgh, 10 September)

William Haggas could walk on water at present and his electric run of form continued in Scotland, with Novalina galloping her rivals into submission once sent to the front over two out.

The daughter of Galileo had disappointed at Salisbury behind Guns Of Leros but the run may have come a bit quick after her maiden victory over Withhold at Ripon.

The runner-up scored next time and wasn't disgraced at Kempton last week when hunting up progressive stayer Blakeney Point. Novalina is a three-year-old worth keeping on your side.

(Doncaster, 10 September)

Rarely finds his way to the winner's enclosure but continues to run consistently for Tim Easterby.

One Word More was chopped for speed when the leaders stretched for home over a furlong out but stayed on well in fourth, beaten less than two lengths by Can't Change It.

The six-year-old usually contests big-field handicaps and holds an entry in the Betfred Cambridgeshire.

Newmarket's stiff climb to the line will suit One Word More and he finished runner-up to Rene Mathis on his only previous visit to HQ. There will be worse outsiders.

(Kempton, 12 September)

Bred to be a smart middle-distance three-year-old, so this juvenile introduction over seven furlongs appeared on the sharp side for Luca Cumani’s filly.

That didn’t stop punters piling in, forcing her price down to 4-1 from double-digit odds and Kitty Boo ran a race full of promise, running on strongly into second spot.

Winner Phalaborwa was another significant gamble and they clocked a very respectable time.
